I had a load to Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. I stopped at a little truckstop for directions. The guy that knew where I needed to go, only spoke French, another had to translate. They gave me directions to the old closed facility. So I’m sitting there, wondering what to do. Two guys show up in a pickup, only spoke French, but through hand gestures and broken communication, we followed them to the new facility. So much fun. Once we got there, we backed in, lot had 6” of pea gravel. No problem when we were loaded, but once empty, I couldn’t move. Just spun my tires. They called for a tow truck and out comes a car wrecker. Took 2 hours to pull me out. On the way up there, at the truckstop in Albany, N.Y., a new North American driver, pulled out of his parking spot and sideswiped my mirror, bent my door, turned my convex mirror into a taco shell. I was able to bend the flat mirror back into a reasonable useable shape. Trip from hell.
Man I've been there, other than the language barrier. An old guy (well older than me so he was a fossil) pulled away from the dock in Jersey, and his door wasn't hooked. When he turned the door swings out and rips the cab mirror, fender mirror, the bumper, and part of the fender off. I had just started driving company again after years as an O/O. The company called a repair truck, instead of sending me to a Volvo dealer. This guys comes out, bends the mirror bracket sort-a out and zip ties a little mirror on (with NO SPOT or heat hook-up), and sends me on my merry way. The middle of the winter so it frosts over the instant I hit the e-way. Pulled out right in front of a unmarked on the big hill in Pennsylvania. Got pulled over and read the riot act. He was like, "What the hell man... this truck shouldn't even be on the road". I told him, "The company told me I had to bring it back to Ohio the way it is. But, that's ok. If this is how they treat their drivers... this is my last trip with this outfit" And........ it was. Got another truck so I'd know it was right. .

Dear Mike how I love you trips. I live in Mass. My husband and I want to travel now that we are retired, but now find ourselves taking care of his mom who is 96 yrs old this yr. They dont let them haul scrap like that around here...even crushed cars have to be netted now. Riding my motorcycle a hood went over my head off a scrap truck / crushed car about 12-14 years ago.....and i know better than be near them 😂. Total BS letting them run scrap like that......
Mike being behind that flatbed would be like running in a snow storm. I used to follow flatbeds hauling chicken to be killed in western Ma. It was like falling a bunch of ripped pillows. 73. Bill
True but I understand why allot of places won't let truckers park. There are some who just don't care. They get up in the morning and just throw there trash out on the ground. Why they can't wait till they fuel I will never understand. I don't think I ever saw a fuel island without a garbage can. That's why most Walmarts quit letting trucks park overnight.
Man the places you have to deliver and pick up from. I really thank you for all you do to keep the country running. Thank you again Mountain Man Mike for a great video. Interesting how that driver used a blower to secure all that trash on his truck. If I heard right on the Presidents briefing yesterday that he eased up on the restrictions on the Obama clock. Did I hear that right? Have a safe one.
Commiefornia is the worst. For a 53 foot trailer the center of the rear axle has to be brought forward (the entire axle system on the trailer slides) to the 40 foot mark with the weight distributed 12,000 on the steer axle, 34,000 on the drives, and 34,000 on the tandems. Yeah, that's 80,000 pounds total... so give them some room!!! So... with a 53 foot trailer that is a LOT of empty overhang on the back beyond the axles. The load must be positioned specially for that with the weight well forward. And, the trailer pivots on the axles so the back of the trailer swings way out wide when you turn. Can easily take out a car or stop sign or etc. when you turn with the tires well within the lane. It's even worse on a west coast only 57 foot trailer. That means 17 feet hanging off the back of the trailer past the axles. Just one more 'fun' thing a driver has to deal with.

Used to deliver hazmat to Tempe out of Cleveland OH all the time in the distant past. Talked into going to Commiefornia ONCE... I-8 to San Diego for a partial, LA final, back out on I-15 to I-40. That was enough for me. Talked into going to Seattle with a partial down in Portland ONCE. Never went back to the three on the coast. Just too much of a pain in the a$$ to me with 55 MPH plus dick DOT's plus NEVER getting a green light with PrePass. To many easier ways to make money and much better rates. Was sure glad when they built the bypass around the dam south out of Vegas. Could run that area again. Always ran percentage... my favorite company was 85% of gross... 4 cents over cost at T/A... and they paid the fuel tax! CA finally eliminated the urge to go there, made my truck illegal :) 1991 International with a 120" Double Eagle sleeper, 13-speed and... and... and... a mechanical CAT. Man that baby could haul... and the fuel mileage was better than the 2001 Volvo 780 after a bit... little girl texting caused me to total the big one. Heart attack ended all that for me in 2014. With all the new crap out there, they couldn't pay me enough to drive now. Hope you keep the pretty side up and the ugly side down and manage to make some money out there. It just works out better that way!!!
Just seen on our local new`s here in the NW UK that 1 of your pickup driver`s was going over a bridge in the snow, he slid hit the wall and went over it and a drop of about 20 to 30 feet and very luckily walked away from it with minor injuries, the date is 13/02/21 time 17.50pm Can someone send this to Mike just to let him know, please. California letting A Lot slide right now. Big time. I wouldn’t worry. Got pulled over on 395 at 4am outside Ridgecrest doing 78 (didn’t have cb on) and the chippy gave me a chick fila coupon and said slow down be careful and thanked me. Times are very different these days.
Blows off the loose crap? Lol, I’ve been around trucks like that flatbed , crap blowing off the whole way, surprised there’s anything still on the trailer ! So much for recycling being eco friendly, leaving stuff all over the roads!
just a little something iv noticed watching these truck driving vids ---is it just me or do folks go out of there way with extra work just to put stuff in yalls way so it makes it 10 times harder to get backed into where you need the truck for loading and unloading and i could say alot about the dick head that had to beat you to the coka cola stop but i will keep my mouth shut ...

Thou shall not make a right turn on red off the I-10 on to Elliott Rd going to Coca Cola. Who am I kidding I do it every day delivering truck parts to that Coke plant.

I was trucking in the late 1990’s and there just weren’t hardly any truck stops around Phoenix. It’s better nowadays. There was a cheesey little dinky Circle K on the west side of Phoenix, really just a diesel fuel convenience store, with a small amount of parking. You had to go west to Tonapah to Rip Griffins Truck Stop, now it’s a T/A truck stop, it had good parking and was a nice facility. TA has fun it down since Rip Griffin sold out.
There are a ton of cockroaches at those recycled cardboard joints, big and nasty and they fly, picked up a load of cardboard in Big Island, Va, roaches give me the heeby geebees!!
I went to work at a midwestern Coca-Cola Bottling plant in 1975 and stayed there for almost 20 years. When I started, they didn't recycle any of their broken glass or aluminum can waste. It was all mixed together with the broken cases and other trash and taken to the landfill. It took them a few years -- I can't remember the timeline -- but when they got into recycling, they took it seriously. They became pretty conscientious about it. They also eventually transitioned to recyclable bottles. In 1975 they had 6 1/2 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz, and 32 oz returnable bottles. You wouldn't believe all the breakage unless you worked there. Then you'd be used to it.

To funny that my transfer station NY my house its usually a three ring circus most days! I always try and get there first thing when they open less idiot's to deal with! You had no control when u got there and remember you are dealing with city workers nobody tells u shit where to go! I feel yeah there! They need to expand the parking at most of the AZ truck stops not enough room! I remember when the economy was real bad here and they closed the rest stops on the 8 and 10!!! That's unsafe for everyone! Keep on getting on!
I watched this to late at night and fell asleep watching the guy tossing over his tie-downs. I will have to watch the last half tomorrow sometime. I am glad I recycle what I do. Maybe sometimes I go to far, like the outer plastic wrap of a large pack of toilet paper. I want to say "Thank you truckers for what you do". I watched the President honoring all you truckers today. Congratulations. #WeThePeople realize if it wasn't for you truckers we wouldn't have anything......especially the much needed TP (I had to add that). Tomorrow we will be going back to Napa to pick up my husband's leg brace, so we will have to stop in at Safeway there as our cupboards are getting bare. Thanks to my husband's half-sister we have our homemade face masks. I wore mine into Lowe's today and it was hard to breath. Maybe it works to good. We used to ship edible beans to calf in 2000 pound tote bags. What a pain in the @##. Do the drive forward slam on brakes, load adjusted put in load locks seal door sign here have a safe trip!
