My Opinion: If you want a Alienware but don't have the money the G series is your option, are the same motherboard as alienware but with a cheaper hardware and less RGB.
Picked up the Dell G15, RTX 4060, i7 13 gen, 1440p 240hz screen for £1099 on sale a few days ago. Can't find any reviews online for it but this is obviously the closest, thank you :)
Hi, How can I buy a laptop with the same configuration as your i7 13650HX & 4060? I ask because the official website does not allow me to choose those options.@@MashITTech
I've got the i9 version with RTX4070 and it can be charged over usb C! It may also be different depending on the country you live in (I live in the UK).
@@MashITTech Hola. ¿Quisiera saber cual me recomendaria de esta serie G15 o la G16 y cual version optarias? Estoy pensando comprar una laptop DELL pero aun no se cual comprar. Note: The use I will give it is to work with architectural software (Revit, Auctocad, Lumion etc.)
I was so happy to buy this computer because I thought, being a loyal Dell purchaser, this laptop was going to be the top of the line purchase. I AM severely dissatisfied and disappointed. Couldn't do a simple task without it overheating. Not even playing a game yet. Fan was replaced now making my $2000+ computer into a refurbished laptop. Now Dell offering to replace the motherboard. It may or may not resolve the issue. I'm making payments now on a refurbished machine. DELL was the brand I bought from for over 20 years. Very disillusioned. Most likely my last Dell machine.
Defo be buying this bad boy after looking around online. Had a HP omen but touchpad kept cutting out due to static issues. So that's went back. This looks so much better tho
I have that. But the 3060 is always bluescreened. I don't know what to do. I tried updating everything. From bios to graphics card update. Nothing works
If there was an option to cut the speakers and save a bit of money, I'd choose that in a laptop every time. I always use external speakers / soundcard or headphones anyway.
I'm very confused about the multi-core benchmark test. The 13650hx is almost on par with a 13700hx and much higher performing in the 12700. Why do you think this laptop performed so poorly in the benchmarks against similar or lower-performing CPUs?
I'm soo happy with my first Dell Laptop I got for £1399.99 on Black Friday. It has an RTX4070 8GB DDR5, i9-13900HX, 1TB SSD, 32GB RAM and a 1440p 240hz Display. I'm a new Computing Science College Student and I see this as a BIG WIN by comparing it to your review Haha ☕ Update: Laptop has distortions once in a while so you have to reinstall the OS once in a while. It may be different for everyone but that's what I experience
Hello, I bought a G16, I don't have it with me yet and I would like to know what I should take into consideration when turning it on for the first time? or the recommendations you would give me. @@MashITTech
@@omermohamed3375It's staying at an average 73° Celsius for me max settings 1440p on Starfield and other Triple A Games. However I'm getting distortions on the laptop and having to reinstall the OS everytime it happens, it's infuriating. Now I'm asking Dell for a Replacement or refund 😮💨
At the same price, would you choose a: Dell G16, GeForce RTX 4070 8Gb GDDR6, Intel i9-13000HX, 1Tb M2 SSD, 32Gb RAM with the 2560x1600 240Hz display or Asus ROG Strix G16, GeForce RTX 4060 8Gb GDDR6, intel i9-13980HX, 1Tb SSD, 16 Gb RAM with the 2560x1600 240 Hz Display ? I heard a lot of people complaininga about build quality of the Dell G16 and also for my use (university and gaming) a laptop that does not have this huge power brick that adds a lot of weight to the already heavy computer, with a better resolution camera (even though I can still buy a webcam maybe just for meetings) and more reliable would be the better option. Taking this into account would you say that it is worth it paying 50€ more for the Asus with worst specs or I would be completely fine with the Dell ?
Just purchased one of these on Amazon with the i9 13900hx and RTX4070 for $1499 USD. It only comes with 16gb RAM but I’ll upgrade that right away. I hope I made a good purchase! It should be here tomorrow
Its a solid machine so I am sure you will be happy. I did make a video showing hot to upgrade if it is any help? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Ibu1Ty2HKoo.html
@@MashITTech thank you so much man! I just opened it up and am setting it up now! And yes, I watched that video and it is super helpful! Here’s a sub and a like for you haha. Thanks!
I wonder what is Dell's logic of using inverted motherboards still? I feel like they are one of the only companies who constantly do this with all of their models, making repasting such a pain. Also unacceptable to not have a USB-C/ mini-DP port that goes to the Nvidia GPU directly for that kind of $.
@@darrylnguimfack1555 i found a better deal. For 950 you get g16 with 1440p monitor 240 hz, I7 13th gen, rtx 4060. It's the cheapest and best 4060 laptop currently on the market. Better get one before the sale runs out
Hey man, love your work. Can you bring in 2023 zephyrus m16 next for the indepth analysis and review. Seems like a really great machine and has a full powered 4070. The 4080 and 4090s are 150w but the 4070 is a full 140w one although there's not much difference at higher wattages. Would really love it if you could review the i9 4070 ips version. Cheers mate! 🥂
Just bought this model . Paid £1,119....obviously lowered as new cpu's and gpu's been released since your test. Only had about 3 hours on it (bloody work 😒), and it took about 30 mins to download PUBG (the REAL reason for buying, not because our old pentium desktop failed). Quick games on PUBG......It plays 1080 at ULTRA really smoothly OR 1600 at HIGH ....1600 at ULTRA has couple of jerks....but graphics vs PUBG Mobile are AMAZING. Your right about speakers but I use headphones. The BRICK is a BRICK 😂. Only got about 2 hours playing PUBG, but I expected as much....I would expect 3 to 4 doing almost ANYTHING else!! Good Test 👍 👍
Thank you for this and answering my questions. Like you said, is it better to buy Alienware m16 with i9-13900Hx, 4070 GPU then to get these specs in the G16? In US, alienware cost around 450 more.
Very good review, I was looking at getting the 4070 gpu i9 cpu version, however it seems to have too many negatives for the price (even though I'm sure generally it's still a very performant laptop). Thanks
@@ilyaskacar3419 overheat stuttering and issues like blue screen typical from dell like their Alienware variant…return my Alienware and got an Asus and it’s the best replacement ever same specs better performance and stability

We do have the 4050 model here in Malaysia as well as the i5 13450HX which I haven't seen the i5 HX series in the wild. Think it's better to get the 4070 for this machine?
I will be glad if you answer. I bought a laptop of this model 2 weeks ago and after a while in games, the fps drops by half. Do you have this problem too?
Hello, can you advise me what should I choose between "this model but with i9 + 4070 and uhd" and "M15 R7 with i7, 3070ti, fhd", plz? I can buy G16 for 1660 euros and M15 r7 for 1300 euros.
@Mash IT Great review! You earned yourself a new sub. I have been looking to purchase this, so your thoughts are super helpful. Am eagerly awaiting your game test review on the Mash Extra channel. I am okay with rest of the compromises; it's just the high CPU temps I'm worried about. I am from India, so the ambient temps are much higher here, which could make matters worse. Would you happen to know what the long term effects on the laptop are, if the CPU sits in 90-100 deg C range during long gaming sessions? I primarily want to play the MS FLIGHT SIMULATOR on this. No undervolting is a real bummer. Thanks :)
I have been using Dells for years and they always let them sit at 90-100c by default and I have never experienced any failures from temps. I have recorded plenty of game play footage, just need to sit down and edit it for the game play video, hope to finish it soon
@@MashITTech Thanks for replying! Your experience eases my concerns. Kudos for all the hard work you're doing. Looking forward to more of your reviews and gameplays. Cheers!
Out of the Dell gaming laptop (incl. Alienware) lines, do any of them support power delivery through the USBs? It's hard for me to imagine not having a little anker power bank for these.
I like your videos but would you please consider this; when you do product close-up shots, change the purple light to white light, so colors look accurate and it doesn't burn audiances' eyes.
Hi! before I begin: I am a normal consumer dad, and I learned alot today about diff. cables and protocols (at least I guess...) We just bought a SAMSUNG Odyssey G5 34 inch on sale for my sons ~2y old DELL G16 7630 (RTX4060) i5 13450HX. Now I am struggling to find out whether my "USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port with DisplayPort" (from the original DELL specs PDF) offers "DP alternate mode" in order to connect the monitor with a USB-C to -> DP cable. (I hope I got it right..) Otherwise I would use the HDMI 2.1 exit with HDMI cable, which - I guess - offers 4K +120Hz only. MANY THANKS!!! for your help, please provide buying recommendation for good cable brand also. BR from Berlin, Sascha
Although I haven't tested your model directly it should work fine with USBC to DP which is by far the best way to attach the laptop to the monitor. Let me dig through my purchase history as I bought one from Amazon and put was really good quality. will let you know shortly
Great video but I was disappointed that you didn't mention that the aspect ratio of the G16 is 16:10. Dell have been moving away from 16:9 to 16:10 making the diagonal measurement pointless and misleading as we are no longer comparing apples with apples. I recently moved from a Dell XPS 15.6" @ 16:9 to a 17" XPS @ 16:10 and it makes only a fraction of an inch difference. I suspect if the G16 @ 16:10 is in fact smaller than a 15.6" @ 16:9 and thus contrary to what you said about it being to big to fit in your bag - it might fit better.
I could have sworn I mentioned 16:10 but I will go an take a look. And basically it is exactly the same width as a 15.6" laptop panel but slightly taller, I measured it against a 15r2 16:9 panel. And the biggest problem with the bag is not just the screen but the fan grills that stick pout the back making the laptop deeper especially when combined with a 16:10 panel. Hope this makes sense
Great review thank you! They are having a sale in Australia for the 4070 32gb version for 2900 (1600 pounds). So you think thats a good price? I'm terrible at making my own decisions hahaha thanks for any advice
That seems like a good price for a 4070. I don’t know what other choice you get in Aus but see how much the legion 5i 4070 model is, that’s a good competing model
the 5i is slightly better IMHO and as its cheaper I would choose that. I am actually halfway through reviewing the 5i and I will do a comparison afterwards :)
@@MashITTech brilliant. I'm just in the process of watching your alienware M16 video too. Will your 5i video be up before the EOFY? That's when the sales end 😂 thanks again
I feel gaming laptops days will fade soon .. As most of brands will introducing powerful handheld consoles in coming months..The Future is Pc in Pocket..Where you can play anywhere you want and If you want to play in big screen plug with hdmi dock and boom its ready to go..and If we want extreme 4k gaming plug with eGpu..we dont have to Lift big heavy machine everywhere and dont have to sit in one place to keep it plugged all the time while gaming
There are two variants of the g15 currently being sold in my country. 4060 and the 3070ti (6800h), both at a similar price point. Which one should i go for?
I just purchased this laptop, but it has not arrived yet. Tell me the pros and cons of this laptop. = I will not be "gaming" on it. I will just be using it for home purposes.
since about 2020 when power delivery finally started happening. As an example my Dell 4k ultrasharp has 90w PD so I just plug my MacBook or Alienware x17 straight into the USBC and it powers the laptop and provides display/audio/usb ports through the display
when you say throttles, can you please be more clear. how much wattage are you getting on sustained load? Intel CPUs boost until high temps and throttles back which is normal as no intel CPU can maintain max clocks indefinitely. Can you compare your Cinebench scores to mine?
I saw in another video on the G16 that it has an auto throttle when the system experiences movement in the chassis (i think to 'protect' parts) and the sensors can be oversensitive causing constant power throttling to CPU and GPU (some have reported it from only enthusiastic key pushing). There is a way to disable it... i will find the link and edit comment Edit: on the following video - skip to 8:15 and the guy explains why you might be experiencing that and how to fix it / disable the feature ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KVZ3DGbi910.html

Why nobody's talking about throttling here? This laptop throttles constantly during gaming and benchmarking right at the beginning. Should have disclosed that.
Yes. massively better. but if you're considering buying one now, Dell do the i9 version for about 1200 and its significantly better again (battery still poop tho).
TBVH if you want a i7 with 16gb and a 4060 the choices are not that great, they all have compromises on something.... I just tried an MSI which also only has a 320 nit screen and was £1500 with i7/4070/16gb/1tb... It is difficult to get something for cheaper that is ok

Long time no see mate. How you been? Good video! Need to get a laptop for a Friend of mine. He was thinking of buying Lenovo X1 extreme G5. Lmk, what you think about that. Maybe, we can get a video review of that as well. Haha.
Hey mate, I am good. I just needed to take a week off after all the Alienware content 🤣 I now have a load of legions sitting here in front of me so going to have another busy couple of weeks! I love the X1 extreme, I didn't ever get chance to review the gen 5 but I am hoping they release the gen 6 very soon and I will get it in. I assume he wants it for content creation more than gaming?
@@MashITTech haha. Alright, bud. So, he loves gaming and but he also get really busy with work. I suggested the legion to him but it's not his type. He doesn't like all the color and legions battery isn't the greatest. I suggested the x1 extreme and it has the classic Thinkpad design with the strong components like the GPU, CPU, etc. I'd love to see a detailed review from you on the Gen 6 laptop. When will Lenovo release it?
Actually its £1086. Some people state issues with overheating and cpu running really hot even without anything running. Kind of off putting. What could I expect to get with Apex Legends on this gpu. Is it a solid choice given the price for what I mentioned above
there is always a chance a laptop will have thermal issues due to poorly applied thermal compound. I would suggest testing it when you first receive its as Dell have a very decent return policy. Apex runs pretty well maxed out at 1600p with a 4060 unless you need super high refresh rate then just drop a couple of settings
feels like any laptop you buy this year need to be 4080 or 4090, any less is just a waste of money because they are so comparible to 3070ti and 3080ti from last gen.
Im seriously considering the 32gb i9 13900 with the rtx 4070 and dci-p3 screen to use for video and photo editing. But trying to see if over £1700 is justifiable for this.
those are some solid specs for the price. You may want to also consider the legion pro 5 which also has similar specs but a brighter screen. As with dell, prices are all over the place but with a good voucher they can be quite cheap
I’m sitting at home waiting for delivery of my G16 with the 4060 and i7. I’m going to use it mainly for photo editing. His upgrade video seems to demonstrate that adding a storage ssd is pretty easy and cost effective. I’m not too concerned with upgrading the RAM or primary ssd, but maybe in the future I’ll feel the need. Without going through the small print I assume open the laptop will void the warranty so that is a consideration.
@@MashITTech I see, was wondering what the screen was like on those as I was looking into them and heard that the colour wasn’t as good as some others, I was also thinking I might have made a mistake sending my X16 back and was thinking about getting an M18 and hoping that the problem with the 2 P cores has been solved. That is of course after I get my refund from dell as it’s been almost a month now and I still don’t have it
I haven't calibrated the screens yet but I can tell you they are using more than one panel manufacturer on the 240hz models which makes it difficult when I review them. fortunately they have looked great to my eyes but will have more info soon
Great review. Those CPU temps are kind odd, though. I was looking at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tDhI8vUhzP8.html for the i9 version and they were cooler than what I see at 8:44

@@MashITTech BTW - fully agree with your summary. This can be a very good one with a discount. This is a very good one in the absolute numbers.
