Thank you for this video. I bought the 5567 and upgraded the internal hard drive to a 480gb ssd drive. It's truly amazing how much faster the machine is now! 👍
Why didn't you disconnect the battery before upgrade the hardware. Dell service manual says it is one of the important step. You are upgrading the hardware while it's connecting to the power souce. I hope this helps to anyone. Anyway this is a very good tutorial. cheers
It doesn't say that on the manual (topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/inspiron-15-5567-laptop_service-manual_en-us.pdf). Hit me up a link so I can read on that as well, I might as well do more readings before proceeding. Thanks!
Like you simple technique of lining up the case screws for the different sizes and location. Great video showing how to get inside the machine. Thank you.
Disconnecting the harddrive from the SATA connector is the hardest part for me actually because it would just be stuck. Broke my cable during the repair but was glad that it is still able to work
Why do they make the battery so difficult to replace when its the first thing of the laptop that needs replacement after a year of use ? Copying from service manual: Prerequisites 1 Remove the optical drive. 2 Remove the base cover. 3 Remove the I/O board. 4 Remove the hard drive.
A pain to take all those screws out but at least you don't have to detach the LCD screen to get to everything. I was able to test that I attached the MB cables back correctly for the SSD I installed before putting it back together. Initially it wasn't reading detecting it on boot. Very helpful video. Thanks!
A useful video. I was able to open my Inspiron 5770 17" laptop thanks to it; the case of my laptop looked exactly like this one, the screws were at the same places, and it opened just like in the video. (I was installing an M.2 SSD drive.)
Had the pleasure of experiencing this tear down myself last night. I installed a 1080p matte screen - as the 720p shiny screen wasn't cutting it for me. Fortunately, separating the actual screen bezel from the casing wasn't remotely as hard as separating the bottom from the main chassis.
Thank you so much for the video. Didn't know the plastic cover has to pried off. Managed to get it off by hand. Somehow, I lost a screw when installing it back. 😁
Hee Khiek Wong yes i want to also know by which screwdriver you open the three screws M2×2 which was after ejecting Dvd rom So should you give a link or name of that screwdriver from where i buy it in india
Thank you so much. You explained everything very well and I was able to change my memory for the first time ever. The only thing I would ask is to add powering it on and making sure you hit continue when the warning comes up that the memory has been changed. I hope that was what I had to do.. BTW I didn't take my battery out and my laptop is working great.
You can check what is installed with CPU-Z, the Memory tab will show you if the controller is in single or dual channel mode, and the SPD tab will tell you what is in each slot.
This is so good. The thermal cooling and the disassembly process on 5567 is absolute trash but overall I've found it quite good and reliable. This was an excellent video
Does the RAM upgrade require any sort of setup when the machine boots or are these type of upgrades all plug and play? Your video makes this sort of operation look very straightforward!
The improvement in performance with RAM alone will depend what you are doing - I was using the laptop for game testing and in that case going to dual channel memory gave around a 27% performance improvement: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tQvOXa9K-UE.html In regular applications though the difference likely won't be so pronounced. I fitted an SSD in place of the standard HDD, which made a significant difference in start times, application loading, etc.
I had to replace the power jack on mine. You need to actually remove the motherboard to be able to get to it. I was able to figure it all out though and get it back together.
Is there any way I can put a ssd SATA on the optical drive slot, kinda a caddy, I mean, the connector to the motherboard isn't a SATA, i think it''s a mSAta, am I right?
hi i am using the dell 5567 laptop, now i wanted to upgrade the laptop with RAM and add SSD to laptop. Could you please tell me that is that DVD optical is SATA 3 or ATA model? where i can see that DVD is having the SATA or ATA
Been 5 years, but I don't believe this model has an M.2 SSD slot - I'd have mentioned it if it did and checking the service manual I can't see anything listed.
A query, this pc was very good for me, but due to carelessness the motherboard does not work, it is worth replacing it and changing some components to continue using it or it would be better to think of another more current equipment, I feel that it can still be removed very useful.
Hey there, Thanks for uploading the video. There is a 260 pin and a 288 pin 8gb DDr4, SODIMM cards, which one should I buy the 260 or 288 , or it doesnt matter. Thanks
I do have query hope you'll help. I've got to know this model provides speed of storage i.e. 6Gbps while it comes to optical drive it is only 1.5 gbps limited by sata. I wanted to have ssd and hdd both on my pc. Here my preference is to have good boot time. here, I think installation of ssd in place of my main hard disk and main hard disk should be installed by the caddy adapter no matter it provides 1.5 gbps for storage load time but my boot load time is increased that's what I think. Will this method work? Is there any method that provides both storage 6 Gbps? Note: I do having this 15 5567 model with I3 6th gen conf.
Hey! Can I know if this laptop has an NVME capable M.2 slot? I want to Do some EGPU experiment on this laptop. Have you ever tried using EGPU"s on any one of your laptops?
What is the Max. RAM for this laptop?Does it support 16GB DDR4 2400 ? What laptop would you consider in 17" with the Max. overclocking in 6th gen.? or should I wait for the superior model than 7500U CPU as this is the best of 2 only in 7th. Gen. Mobile edition. My basic need is powerful graphics for video n photo editing, with at least 16GB DDR4 2400 and 1080P res.in 17" screen size. Right now either 13 or 15" screen is available with Radeon or integrated 615 n 620 Intel chips.

I was looking for a hdd caddy to replace the dvd drive, but havent found any the use the exact inspiron 15-5567 model number. Do you have any suggestions?
basically those hdd caddies have different thickness: 12.7 or 9.5 mm, you need to measure thickness of your dvd drive and get a matching caddy, as long as thickness is right, you can go with any hdd caddy
You commented in the start that you were going to upgrade to dual channel memory, but you added one and left existing memory. Is one dual channel and one single now?
Dual channel means installing a matching specification DIMM on each memory channel - each slot is attached to a different channel, so you want a DIMM installed on each to give full performance.
Is it good practice to (after backup of storage of the hard drive to an external source), to wipe the hard drive clean before replacement? Thanks for the helpful video!
If you're disposing of it, then I would recommend secure erasing it. If you're reusing it (eg. in a caddy for backups or file transfers) then I'd probably just reformat it.
The 3 little screws below the cd drive are stuck, only one came out the other 2 seem to start getting stripped Plus when I inserted the pry tool on the back edge and slightly started separating the plastic, the plastic was getting bitten and deformed ... is there a specific way to do all this without compromising the aesthetics?
Upgrading to Kingston A400 SATA3 2.5" Internal SSD to drive bay and moving the original 1TB 5400 RPM SATA hybrid drive to the DVD Drive chamber using a 9.5mm caddy adapter. SSD to improve performance and I wanna utilize the 1TB drive for storage. Is this doable for Dell Inspiron 15 5567?
Thank you for such a detailed video. I have the same model but it has the amd a10 processor. Would you know if the hard drive would be the same as the intel one 2.5 or different ? Thank you in advance.
Hello! Thanks for your video! I've bought 5565-0576 few weeks ago. And now I'm interested about number of ports for RAM in my laptop (amd a6, 4Gb RAM), because I want to make 8Gb. Do you know, how many RAM ports in my laptop? What memory should I get? Thanks for your answer!
Typically Dell will provide two SODIMM slots to accommodate dual channel memory My particular 5000 has 2 slots 240pins each My system has DDR4 2400mHZ 16GB RAM Crucial brand check dell website for approved QVL for memory modules.

Hello, first of all i'd like to thank you for the video, was helped me a lot! However I had a "little" problem: I disassembled the laptop and changed the hd for a ssd successfully, I turned on the pc and the hardware check was a succes. When installing the w10 I noticed that there was no sound on the pc, I thought it might be a lack of the sound driver, but I already updated everything and still not working. I wanted to ask you if it's a common problem or if I probably screwed up my audio hardware ): thank you again!
Hi. Your video helps me to change my old hdd for an sdd, but I didn't notice something until now, for some reason my headphone jack seems to not work , I plug my headphone and it doesn't get detected by my pc. Do you have any idea of what it could be wrong? I hope that you can help me.
Strange one, as I think the headphone jack is on the mainboard. Do you have the base properly fitted and clipped in to place, or is it stopping the jack from being pushed all the way in?
I have a Dell 15-5567 and I’m trying to replace the HDD TO A SSD but i keep getting the blue screen that’s saying media test failure or media failure. Don’t really know what to do now about it. I’ve tried 2 different SSDs. And nothing. Still blue screen. Idk what to do.
Hi, In the Bios section of my same laptop the frequency of RAM shows 2133 MHZ but you have installed 2400MHZ Ram, Can you please confirm which frequency RAM to install. ? In my BIOS screen it shows 2133 MHZ RAM.
Good news is that it's 1 x 8GB rather than 2 x 4GB. So I just need to get another 8GB RAM board and it's then maxed out for memory. An awful lot of screws. No room for 2 SDDs so external SDD is backup. Then image the primary drive in the backup and create a backup script to update the backup every hour and push the changes up to the web server archive. Could also use an M-disk in the optical drive for important data. 3-2-1 almost.
I upgraded my 5565 form Amazon to a 512 SSD and a great little UHD Blu Ray ODD...then it died 24 hours later. Every time I so much as TOUCH the power adaptor to the laptop power port, the green light on the adaptor (brick) goes off. WHAT THE HECK ! Is this one of the infamous DELL power issues they had a few years back? I thought they got that fixed !!! Any ideas how to fix this power issue...can't charge the battery, laptop won't run now. ANY help or ideas would be helpful before I send this to DELL for $$$ NON-Warranty work.
I used a Samsung 850 EVO too. But in my case the Dell doesn't detect the SSD and runs always the Hardwarecheck. The SSD isn't the failure i tested it on my desktop PC. Any Idea?
I'd format it in the desktop as NTFS and check it for bad sectors, it worked fine in ours, we just cloned the Hard drive to the Evo and it worked perfectly
i ran into this issue earlier today. Did you unclip the sata cable. Initially when i closed everything up i didnt put the cable fully in and thus it didnt recognize the drive. id suggest unplugging both ends of the cable and then re-attaching ensuring connections on both ends
Can SSD and HDD Dual drive be used in this device and what about the GPU? As i know there is a 2gb or 4gb dedicated AMD graphic, is it possible to replace it? Thank you.
Hello sir I'd like to ask. If I do open this laptop by myself. Will it void the warranty? or no? I wanted to see the inside of my laptop (same model, i7 Kabylake with R7 M445) and clean it. I just don't want to void the warranty (which will expire next year. Which is still a long time ahead) Thanks for the vid and nice works sir!
You should always assume that by opening the laptop you are going to void the warranty. That said I don't recall any specific warranty stickers or seals on my example, so if you're careful and use soft plastic pry tools it should be possible to open it up without any obvious signs that you have done so, but I can't take any responsibility for damage or loss of warranty.
I did open it and left some dents on it (which I kind of regret) But a colleague of mine assured me that I won't be having any problems in terms of warranty as long as I don't replace anything yet nor ruined anything inside the laptop (rams and such) I'm confident that they'll still honor the warranty despite some dents because I haven't done anything that would cause the laptop to malfunction.
Just bought this from Costco, came with 16GB ram, I7-7500, "signature edition", Radeon M445. But not a SSD... Will replacing the HD with SSD void warranty? I was thinking I could pull the stock drive and keep it, then put it back in if there's ever a warranty prob.
Technically yes, although there are no clear warranty stickers or seals on my system, so if you use soft plastic tools and don't mark the panels I expect you'd get away with it.
What single upgrade is most important to make this laptop faster for video editing? Is it upgrading it to SSD? I bought this laptop in 16gb ram only for that function but it's slow!
Brue Computing I'm using adobe premiere pro Cc to edit but it lags during playback. I bought a dell inspiron 15 5000 2tb 16gb ram and amd 4gb card. I'm not what to update to improve performance so premiere pro doesn't lag during playback. Thank you so much for your help!
I need an immediate reply. I have the same laptop and bought a new DDR 4 4gb ram 2400 frequency Kingston. The problem is when I was going to install it the pins is not exact but if I flipover the ram it fits. Should I install it upside down?
I asked myself the same question... It appears that the battery connector gets unplugged but it is not getting in the way at all for what would be a hard drive swap.
Hi, i have a dell inspiron 15 5000 series 5567 model (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz, 2701 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)). It only has 4GB ram and i want to add another 8GB. You think it will hold 12 GB? Thank you for your respose
