Incredibly detailed, succinct and professional. With many of these videos containg a ridiculous amount of "chatty" commentary it was a relief to find yours. The reverse build is sure genious!! GREAT JOB. Thank You...I hope you continue uploading the same quality work in the future. :)

I had to reset CMOS, it was a few more steps but the videos I found lacked narrative or narrator had a non American accent, by far this was the best at showing and explaining the teardown and reassembling, Thanks

I am a normal mum on a budget and son's 7 year old laptop over heated and shut down. I followed this tutorial and it is now working and I feel like a genius, great tutorial, thank you SO much :-)

Thanks for this video. Unlike most "one-way" videos, which only show you how to dismantle, you show the re-assembly as well. I removed/cleaned my heatsink/heatpipe assembly without any assistance. But, if I ever need to dismantle it further, this will be invaluable.

Hey, thankyou very very much for this video. I had to replace a broken fan. Followed your video to the letter. Brilliant !!!. Thanks again.

Thanks for this. I took everything apart and found that the rattling sound was just a small piece of plastic getting sucked up into the fan.

There are a lot of steps but if I can follow them and still have a working laptop after even with my fat fingers I'd recommend everyone else to try. Good clear concise instructions...

Thanks for this! My laptop fan busted and I took it to the repair shop and they wanted to charge me £80 to fix it...so I decided to do it myself. Found this tutorial and now I have a laptop with a working fan! Yay!

Why is the one thing you are most likely to want to get to, the hardest thing to get to? Damn you dell!

Great video! I would suggest replacing the thermal paste prior to reinstalling the heatsink.
@dellpartspeople

If your fan is still functioning properly then the laptop may just need to be cleaned out of all the debris that build up over time. Often times you will find that a thorough cleaning and re application of thermal compound on the CPU will solve some overheating issues. Also try to keep your laptop off of cloth surfaces when it is running because the cloth will block the vents and prevent the system from cooling properly.
@dellpartspeople
@dellpartspeople 12 лет назад
I would suggest checking all of the cable connections, re-seating the memory, re-seating the CPU. Sometimes the heatsink will stick to the CPU, removing the heatsink, and cause it to become loose. Basically, if the laptop was working before, then there is most likely a loose connection somewhere.

I heard of people baking the motherboards and that working occasionally and I've also heard about about a fuse that blows. Apparently the fuse a pretty simple soldering repair but I'm not exactly sure where the fuse is located. Replacing the motherboard is the only thing that I know will fix it for sure. If you wanted to send it to us my repair guys could check the fuse but it's not a guarantee that the fuse is the problem. We're good though so we would be able to tell you what the problem is.

@Yukisho I would recommend Arctic Silver. Artic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity. (While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.)
@dellpartspeople

Sure it's possible. It doesn't happen often but it is possible.

I also replaced the fan that is inside my laptop with this RU-vid video. The biggest challenge though was squeezing the video in beside the heat sink. Now all I hear is the video constantly playing over and over again. But it definitely cooled the laptop down, it must be the uploader's cool voice. :D

They slide up out of the connections. Try using a flat head screw driver and carefully pivoting up the sides until they come loose.

@Arrohon I understand that removing all of the parts just to gain access to the CPU fan can be a bit tedious, however; I would recommend following the tutorial guide step by step to ensure you gain complete access to the CPU fan without potentially compromising any other components.

@chalocompean If the battery or AC adapter was left in while completing the repair, it is very probable that the video was blown. If you plug an external monitor in to the VGA port and are able to see the display and everything else is working properly, then that is a good indicator that the video was damaged during the repair and the motherboard needs to be replaced.
@dellpartspeople
@dellpartspeople 13 лет назад
@lala123love It sounds like you might need to go ahead and replace you cooling fan. Thermal paste is applied in between the processor and the heat sink. Its purpose is to help properly dissipate the heat that is produced by the processor. I would recommend 'Arctic Silver' which you can find at our website.
@dellpartspeople

I would go back through the laptop and make sure all of the cables and connections are seated properly.

Great video, really useful, my dell was running so hot and slow I thought I was going to have to buy a new one but this vid helped me solve the problem. Some have said they had issues after the rebuild so may I suggest you take pics of the cable routing and the connectors in place before you disassemble then you have something to look back at if you're not sure of something, I did and it went back together perfectly and worked first time, I also used another youtube vid to see how to replace the heat paste so now I have a cool running and better running laptop.Thanks again.
@dellpartspeople

I have the exact laptop and yesterday it was working just fine then today I turn it on and it starts acting up it takes very long time for it to respond and get to the welcome screen I believe it has something to do with the fan since it wont spin for long after I turn 0n the laptop like I turn it on and it starts spinning then it will stop after 5 sec I went to best buy and they told me I would have to replace it I dont really want to go through that so I was thinking maybe I need to clean

Hey guys, I have the same computer and my fan makes a lot of noise like its touching the plastics parts that covers it. I think it might be because of the overheat over the passed years, it folded a bit because of the melting. Do you think it just needs a good cleaning or should i change it. and if i need to change it, i red all the comments and I dont know whats the thermal paste. Could you guys explain to me where it goes and how and when should i put it. Thanks a lot for your support

@dellpartspeople

+Aksum Princess It might not be plugged in all the way or the new fan may be broken. You gonna have to check the cable. If that doesn't work, you might have to replace the fan again to make sure the part wasn't defective.

I think you're on the right track. Go through the laptop and make sure everything is plugged in properly. From your description it sounds like the laptop is turning on but the screen isn't, so I would pay close attention to the LCD cables and make sure they're plugged in. That's probably where you will find your problem.
