It might be late but for someone reading in the future, I have upgraded my 3521 with 16 gb ram. It works fine. One can always visit crucial.com and enter model number to check hardware limits.
How can I find out what type of screw is used to hold the hard drive in place? The one I bought the hard drive was not screwed in. I'm just looking to find the size of screws so I can tighten it down. Thank you.
Did you clone your hard drive to the new SSD drive prior to putting it into the laptop? I switched mine out as you did in the video but when I turned on the computer with the new SSD, I still got no boot device.
I think I tried cloning first, but ended up reinstalling from usb. I remember I could not get the restore partition to work after cloning due to the larger disk image size. But that was many years ago.. You do not want to clone this old image, just install the latest windows 10 with all updates in the image from a usb stick.
I agree 1000% with comment made by Daniel Hunter. I too have total buyer's remorse. The Dell replaced a 6yr old Toshiba that still works and runs faster. Dell should be ashamed for selling such a crappy product.
The hardest part is re-installing the OS on the SSD. A lot of times the recovery USB (that you make in Windows 8) won't work if the SSD is a different size from the stock hard drive.
Sir i also have same laptop but my storage is 500 gb if possible to upgrade 1tb or 2tb. And after upgrade 1tb or 2tb ram also upgrade ? And how i am assorted my laptop suport or not and after upgrade work well
is the processor upgradable ? i want to upgrade mine beccause im a gamer but didn't have enough budget since my other laptop which was amazing got broken down :( and im planning to upgrade it's processor, is it possible? even if the have the same socket type? would i have software issues? rejections or anything? please reply :) i really need help :P
+Vince Lingat If you're a gamer, I would suggest investing in a new laptop or possibly a desktop (cheaper). This laptop is good for average college students who just need to write papers and do simple computing tasks. All the hardware falls short for gamers, especially the video card and processor.
He cloned/imaged the HDD to an SSD using software. That would require taking the HDD and sticking in another machine but he has to take the HDD out anyway. If you wanted to fresh install 8.1 on a new SSD/HDD then you would run Belarc Advisor in Windows on the current HDD to get the OEM key. That's the easiest way. There are others methods. Running Belarc Advisor should be the first thing you do anyway on a new PC and keep the results for emergencies. When you fresh install 8.1 on an OEM system you must enter a dummy key at first. For CORE aka non-Pro enter 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT and for PRO enter XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB. Once Windows is up and running you can enter your OEM key in Charms/PC Settings/Activate Windows.
