Happy to see a review on this laptop. It's very rare to see anyone review latitudes, and except for the price I think they give the T480 a run for its money
As for Software Developing on the go this laptop is the best bang for the buck. What he didn't mention is, that there are models with IPS Panels and NVMe SSD's too. Got me one with the i7, 16GB, NVMe and IPS and it does the job more than great. I have one of those workstation monsters in the office and believe me. You don't wannt to carry one of those in to the parc to work there a bit.
@@lyyburns4762 in practice all just feels smoother with nvme. Its not really measurable, because benchmarks dont say much about the real work with it. A normal SSD will do the work too.
I love this series of Dell laptop, I have used HP in the same category but I will go for Dell, one very important distinction is the ease of use of the keyboard that set it apart from HP.... the feel is so great and backlight is cool... if one haven't used the two you won't know the difference. I hope HP should go back to the standard mouse pad with normal right/left click, it is a pain not being able to find easily to click for right or left. I would recommend this Dell over HP in the same category. Though I cannot say of any other laptop systems in the same range.

My new workplace gave me one of these, 512 nvme, 32 gb ram (sys admin, virtual machines etc), you just feel compelled to work on it, even when you get home you just want to work a bit because it feels like such a joy to use it. Single fan is a bad design though, you have to use a cooling pad or it'll spin its heart out. Also it should have a Ryzen 8 core for my workloads, 4 core is a thing of the past and should die with intel.
Listen , I just bought one of these and the sound quality is very good, loud and full and even beats My 15 inch 2013 macbook pro, sorry buddy your review falls short, what kind of speaker do you expect on a 14 inch laptop, surround sound, big band? They are some of the best i have had on laptops, yes surprisingly.
Just got this laptop from my employer for a web development position. with 16gb of ram. 500gb nvme. 8th Gen core i7. Ask in 6 months if you want to know what I think of it.
Nazir doğan I like it. Although I come from a shitty track pad so I always carry a Bluetooth mouse with me. But I don't dislike having to use the laptop's track pad. The track pad even supports swiping with 4 fingers to the sides to use multiple desktops or whoever it's called, like in Mac OS
I heard this 7490 also has heat problem. I trust the community's feedbacks since my Dell Precision 5510 really died on me due to heat management problem just like what the community reported.
To the reviewer or anyone that have used this: the heat situation was touched upon in the review, but how is it in real world use? Will the machine get warm/uncomfortable using it in the lap when doing browsing/watching videos? Cheers!
i use an older model e7270 i7 16GB,IT guy. and I can bet that with his HD non touch screen, the heat issue would never be a problem. the fans are quite and effective when on
I do like it. For video editing and audio editing, it does a nice job. As long as I can do more with UI customization on the display of it, then it would be an attention getter especially when connecting it to a vey large and wide LED Screen TV or a table-top portable projector like the In-Focus. Good for presentations in exhibitions.
How is your Toshiba holding up? I bought a used Portege Z30 last year and the bottom feels loose and makes some creaking noises when you press on it. Since I haven't owned it since it was new I am not sure if this is just the way they are built or if something is broken.
How is this laptop compared to HP EliteBook 1030 x360 G3? I have an option to choose this Latitude 7490, HP EliteBook 840 G5 or HP EliteBook 1030 x360 G3. These are the 3 popular models we can have for work. Any pros and cons will be very helpful.
Hello' What would be best performance Laptop ,for moving between 3 offices in different location.Using:1-Microsoft office intensively,2-Auto cad .3-Photoshop.4-PDF Pro. So :XBS 7590 OR LATITUDE 7400 OR any other advise and any other brand.thanks.?
I think you should do your research, You talk about the slower SSD drive, but you can upgrade that to the faster PCi SSD at your discretion. See mobile tech review with Lisa Game
Anyone please tell me if this product has better screen over a Thinkpad on the same price? Also I noticed some heating issue on DELL community form make me concern too!!
This is a solid device I am using it right now and my workplace lent it to me. Never used a thinkpad so couldn’t tell you which is better but this Laptops battery reliability and keyboard is just wonderful. My one comes with touch screen so I like it too
GREAT FOR MS OFFICE - lol But seriously, even for a business laptop there are cheaper alternatives. The only advantage I see here is Dell's additional services - for businesses.
what is this gets the job done for speakers and ok, they are very good. I have this laptop, and the sound is surpriningly loud and full. See Mobile tech review.
LOL as if you are the target market for this or you would ever buy it; this is for ITs, Pros, business and enterprise users, not regular consumers, period.
But if you buy these second hand as they go "obsolete" within a year for people working in embassies, these machines are damn solid. I have a Latitude e5410 and I like it. Sure it heats up pretty easily...
