Many thanks for the tutorial. A new socket cost £1.74 delivered on Ebay. We followed the film in stages no problem. The centre of the old socket fell out. Removing the remainder was fiddly. I cut the enclosure in half with tin shears and pulled out the plastic to get to the contacts and desoldered from there. Disaster! one of the adjacent SMA resistors fell off and had to be re-soldered. Assembly in reverse was fine. Success and delighted sons! About 5 hours to do.
I have no clue how the hell you managed to get apart the palmrest, it will not come apart no matter what I do yet you make it look soooo simple when it isn't. edit: there were 2 funky lookin seam tabs in the back that you have to pull out before you can actually get it off. YOU DIDN'T EVEN SO MUCH AS HINT AT THEIR EXISTENCE!! no picture, no showing, no anything. you just popped it off like it wasn't even there expecting everyone to know what the hell was holding it up. it wasn't even obvious. I hope you have gotten a lot better at showing this stuff in the 12 years since you made this video. what's depressing is that this is the best video of taking apart this laptop on youtube, and it is still not very good.
Sorry to disappoint you with the free video I took the time to make so thousands upon thousands of people every month can get their laptops fixed by themselves. There will be mistakes made in these videos as some of them are the first time I've taken them apart or something has already been removed etc. I can't redo videos of 19 year old laptops unfortunately. Sorry I wasted your time with my free helpful videos.

This is why I dislike working on laptops. They come in handy, but are a pain to repair. Plus, most laptop dissassemblys(not sure if I spelled that correctly) are different. While desktops are mostly alike and you don't have to go through all of that trouble of taking the whole thing apart just to repair one simple problem. And desktops have mostly better performance(It depends) and easier to find parts for and more upgradable. But you can't really fit a desktop in your backpack either.
ridiculous....just buy a new laptop ..to go through removing 100 tiny diff size screws and remembering where they go and the chance of breaking the laptop not worth it...$69 is a great price its at least a 2-3hr job even for a pro
