The 8 pin PSU is only4th gen and up in Optiplex systems. Later ones like 7th gen use 6-pin adapters, and 3rd gen and older are 100% standard ATX.

Honestly hpz420 are good machines to turn into gaming machines in my opinion. The 600w power supply is handy and you can fit mostly any graphics card . I got one with a e5 2689, with an rx 590. Runs nice. 28gb of ram

i literally own an optiplex 3020 with many upgrades My new upgrades (that just happened recently) consist of MSI GTX 1650 EVGA 500W PSU Core i7-4770 16GB DDR3 1600MHz ram.

I own an optiplex 3020 and my current specs are:16 gb of ram, core i5 4570 and gt 710....The upgrades that I want to do: GTX 1650 I dont know low profile or not?.. And I dont know If I need to a 500 psu?

@@howtodoit6885 That i5’s integrated graphics is like not much different at all from a 710. Don’t go for a low profile 1650 right now as prices are absurd. Get a low profile 1030.

Great vid. Are the other proprietary parts in this OEM machines ? I heard the dell front panel connectors were sometimes different making case swaps impossible, something to do with the power button iirc.

I know I'm couple months late but I have an Optiplex 3020 Mid Tower i5-4570, HP AMD Radeon rx480, 8gb ddr3 1600mhz, 585w psu, 500gb hdd. The only things I want to upgrade are the ram and ssd maybe the case fan if I find one that I can convert to pwm or that doesn't run super loud at 100%. That being said I was hoping you did ram because everything I've seen says only crucial ram can be used do you know if this is true??

I’ve never heard that. Hynix and Samsung modules should work just fine. You should def get an SSD. They are so dirt cheap and make all the difference.

Awesome video! wondering what cpu i should upgrade to? i have an optiplex 3020 but it came with an i3 and i want to know what cpu i should get and also what graphics card i should get to get almost as similar or higher frames on my games than your frames? I mainly want to play gtav since i used to play it a couple years ago, also im very surprised with the quality of your video man you are underrated

GGGZMASTER 22 Dude Thanks so much for the kind words!!! It really means a lot!!! It sucks there aren’t a ton of Xeon’s that work in Haswell Mobo’s so your best bet would be to get the i7 4770 or 4790. Also get a cheap 120GB SSD to run your OS off and use the HDD for your games. Honestly the best card to get new would be a 1650 Super that don’t require additional power. Also you can def get a used RX 570 on eBay and also get a Sata to 6 pin to power the GPU. Check out my RX 570 video - great card for the money but buying it used is the real “deal” or an RX 580 also used. Let me know if you have anymore questions. Thanks again for the kind words!!

So just got one of these free iv ordered upgrades for it today they are the following I5 4590 cpu Asus rog strix gtrx 960 gpu 120gb ssd for windows 500gb hdd I haven't ordered psu yet I'm thinking of powering from a sata Anyone a lil techy know how this will run?

Hey man!!! That's not a bad build at all, infact, I'm working on a video now that came with a 4570 but I'm upgrading it to a 4770. I also have a GTX 960 from EVGA i picked up for $60. But I'll be doing a video on a few older budget GPU's and that card will be in the mix. You can go with a sata to 8 pin as long as the PSU has enough wattage it will work. But let me give you some really good advice. EVGA has something called Mid Week Madness. Every Wednesday they have a sale from 12 A.M. PST to 12 P.M. PST where they sell factory refurbished parts. I bought 2 500 Watt White Certified PSU's for $30 bucks each, and shipping is free. So this upcoming Wednesday, google "EVGA Mid Week Madness", they also had a GTX 1060 6 GB for $109, that's a friggin steal!!! All stuff comes with a one year warranty as well. I've ordered so much stuff from them and it's always been quality!!!

That's a tough one.....What I would do is get the 3010 upgrade the CPU. I know there are some cheap Haswell Xeon's out there that would work in that system. Are you going Mid Tower or Small Form Factor?

Hey man, sorry for the delayed response. What's your budget and what card do you have right now? I think your best bet would be something like an RX 570 or RX 580. Anything passed that would just be a bottleneck. Even something like a 1650 Super would be a really nice additional. Let me know if you have any more questions, I'd be glad to help you my dude.

Thanks for the comment my man!! Yeah my buddy just bought one for his SFF 8th gen Intel Optiplex, i'm not sure of the model, but he's got an 8700 in there, and it runs nice. So many people trash that card, but I really wish AMD and NVIDIA would do more LP cards. So many people used Optiplex, HP and Lenovo SFF's.

I wish I came across this video before I bought a dell optiplex 755 sff and a msi gtx 750 ti imagine my surprise when I compared the size of the computer to the gpu 😅😂😂 iv just bought another dell optiplex 3020 tower to go with the msi gtx 750 ti its plug and play with no power needed im just a bit stuck here would I need to upgrade the power unit to run just this gpu any help would be much appreciated

Hey Barry sorry for the delayed response. So they have some decent cards on the market that don’t require any 6/8 pin connectors. The 1050 and 1050ti but if you can afford a 1650 Super that would be a great option. You can also buy a SATA to 6/8 pin adapter on eBay. You’d be surprised how many cards will work on an OEM PSU and this adapter. Here’s a link for one on EBay. @@Tech215Studios thanks for reply bud I opted to get a evga 500w swapped the stock unit out it was only a 250w kept the msi gtx 750 ti and now ordered 16gb or corsair vengeance ddr3 1600mhz to go with it all this for my daughters first pc at Christmas to play fortnite 😅😂😂 i want to keep it myself even started to learn how to print stickers to vinyl wrap it so looks new all go here

It most likely has the H81. Do you know the other specs? If you don't hit control - Alt - Delete and go into Task manager. Then hit the performance tab and it will tell you what CPU, the amount of RAM, IGP or Graphics Card and hard drive. Let me know when you get a second.

I would recommend to have 8gb if you don't already have it, and for the GPU you can get the gtx 1650

Thanks for dropping a line. I think with a dual core CPU with hyper threading nothing higher than a 1050ti, or if you can get a good deal on an RX 570. That CPU will the bottle kneck for anything higher. I hope this helped!!! :)

Hey Bud!!! We love Noobs here at our Community, so if you ever have questions this is the place. The Dell Optiplex will generally accept any Graphics Card, both NVIDIA and AMD. Also, the stock power supplies that come with stock with the Dell Optiplex Towers don't have 6/8 Pin Cables, so you will have to put a new power supply in or use a SATA to 6/8 Pin Adapter and hope the stock PSU has enough wattage to power the card. OR you'll have to get a graphics card that can run strictly off the PCIe slot (750ti, 1050, 1050ti, 1650). If your using a small form factor optiplex, you'll have to use a Low Profile Card, also known as a half height card. As far as the Lenovo, they are very limited in terms of GPU's. They will generally only accept certain NVIDIA GPU's. Unfortunately, they do not offer support for AMD GPU's (RX 570, 580, etc.) What type of rig do you have and do you plan on using it to game or use it for workstation related tasks?

zoro let's play no you can turbo but not OC. I know ASRock has an app for some of the newer locked chips that push more voltage thru your CPU but the boards have to be “Z” or “X” and the chips have to be “K” Skews. I hope this helps bro. Thanks for commenting.

zoro let's play that’s crazy you asked that because I just picked up an HP Z400 Workststion for $20 bucks. I bought the Xeon X5680 which is 6 cores 12 threads and paired it with 6 4 GB sticks of DDR3, a cheap SSD, and my 5500XT and it’s a beast. Do you have an optiplex? Give me your specs? Also you can always ask questions. That’s what my channel is all about. So keep the questions coming. 😃

@@Z.L.P No. So the 3020 is Haswell, Intel 4th Gen. The X5680 is X58. I know Ali Express has some awesome new X58 boards that are brand new. But it can take a while to get cause they come from China. Check out "Tech Yes City" Brian is the best, and the X58 Master!!! If you have an Optiplex 3020, your best bet is getting the i7 4770 or 4790. You can prolly get one for $70-$100 bucks.
