😒 omg wtf r u making this unecesarily overcomplicated! with 2 six pins on the oem psu just look for a 2sixpin video card or single8pin video card, one ssd and one big mech hard drive, SLI is Stupid and Garbage, go single video card only! 😒👍🚤

My T5500 rig has dual 5670 hex core, 24 thread 3.1 GHz processors. 48 gigs of ECC DDR3 memory 5 TB hard drive but only one Nvidia gtx 770 (for now). It plays doom and Tomb raider like a champ. Its really overkill for a home machine but thus far the total cost is only $600 AND I LOVE IT. SERIOUSLY. So much so I have already bought another to begin upgrading. First I have to get another GTX 770 to install in the first machine. Thanks for all the tech tips, love your channel.

According to this scorecard an upgrade to the graphics card would make this an acceptable gaming system. Not that I don't already believe that. Guess I'll start looking for deals on a GTX 1080. www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/4468214

I know this is an old video but I just purchased a Precision T7500 with dual X5650's, (that's 12 cores - 24 threads), a GTX-650 Ti w/ 1GB, 12GB of 1333 DDR3 RAM, a 1TB Seagate and three 120GB SSD Drives, a stock 1100 watt PSU all for $75.00. I found that the 1TB drive and 2 of the SSD drives were toast so... planned upgrades include 2 - Matched Xeon X5675's for $40, and additional 12GB of ECC registered RAM 6 X 2GB for $19.00, 2 - Nvidia Quadro 4000 2GB GPU's for $96. The system already has Win 10 Pro installed and activated. I added 2 640GB HDD and 1 250GB HDD for storage I had laying around collecting dust and plan on setting them up in RAID 0. No SLI for the GPU's but that's ok. Keep in mind these dual processor servers were never intended to or optimized for any kind of gaming weather on-line or not and they are limited to USB 2.0 and the PCIe slots are also 2.0 configured so putting 3.0 GPU's in these systems will not net you the performance you might expect from the latest GPU's as they are primarily bottlenecked at the slot. There is a work-around for that but it's cost prohibitive for a "budget system" and you'd be better off just getting a better motherboard. The addition of a USB 3.0 add-on card as well as an SCSI 3.0 add on card will help but again drives the initial cost of building the system higher as newer SSD hardware is more expensive then legacy stuff. My point is - even if the cheap cost of this older hardware is attractive it doesn't always make sense to even attempt it because games in the future will just get even more component dependent and make this budget PC not very practical. A better option would be doing something like my first build - It's an HP EliteDesk small form factor system with a Core i7-4790, 24 GB DDR3 Ram, 120GB SSD, 1TB HDD, 1200GBs WIFI add-on card, Blu-Ray/DVD-CD RW drive, GeForce GTX-1050Ti, USB 3.0 on board and SCSI 3.0 and PCIe 3.0 x16 on board all for a shade under $400 for the system ($100) and all the upgrades AND it's small enough to fit just about anywhere unlike the T7500 which is a massive system at 80 pounds! It gets 60 to 90FPS in every game I've played on it at 1080p with setting maxed or medium with the exception of Shadow of the Tomb Raider which still ran at about 40FPS in medium and low settings. So there are better options for budget systems out there. just do your homework before you plunk down your money for a legacy system. Oh yah, I also wanted to mention that when you load this system up with upgrades and turn on the turbo boost for max clock speeds on the CPU's the core temps on the mainboard CPU go way up so you MUST get creative with cooling for the CPU otherwise you will cook it in no time.

I have a Dell Precision T3500. I upgraded the CPU to an X5650 as it runs cooler than the stock, and provides additional cores. 24 GB ram, a 500gb SSD, and a 1tb backup drive. The graphics is pushed with a ATI RX580 8GB. I ran Catzilla benchmark and got a 21000 rating not bad for a gaming pc. it was running easily at 145FPS using the 1080p. Of course, the OS is Windows 10 pro 64bit. It is very quiet, even running high end games. There was a little altering to the inside of the case so the PCI-e video card could fit, but I saved quite a bit of money.

I'm looking at buying a Dell Precision T5500 from my work soon ($100) and was planning on turning it into a gaming rig as well. I don't have any plans for a raid 0 config and honestly was just going to throw in my old Radeon HD4870 video card with it. Curious if you gave this beast away? :) Thanks for the video, it was a good watch.

if your cpu temps are getting to high you might consider getting U016F heatsink. The one you're using at the moment ( T021f ) is not rated for processors with high clock speed. en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19370823?pi21953=2 I currently running t5500 with x5677 (3.46 to 3.7 ghz turbo) and gtx 980 : ]
@ww4102
@ww4102 8 лет назад
with xeon w3540 45nm and uo16f heatink my cpu temps were hitting above 80c under heavy load. As I upgraded to x5677 with 32nm technology, temperatures rarely go above 60c. I added one 80mm exhaust fan on the back grill, and this also keeps things cooler. But when I had two of those 80mm fans running on the back it caused front fans to work at very high speed most of the time, making the workstation very loud. I grabbed dirt chip thermaltake VR fan controller with four fans on ebay, so I'll be experimenting more with cooling this pc. Good to hear your t5500 stays cool, excuse my english : ]
@ww4102
@ww4102 8 лет назад
All stock components here. But it's not getting really hot anymore after cpu and gpu upgrade. I think it stays about 60-65c during gaming, and only sometimes can go above 70c on passmark performance test.It was very hot weather here for the last few days, whenI was testing it. Previously I had msi gtx gpu, now I'm using reference design card which is probably better at exhausting the hot air outside the case. The thermal paste I am using at the moment is not to bad but average quality, I am waiting for arctic mx4 delivery. The extra fans I will be adding is kind of DIY/ FUN project. I am a bit surprised that you have such a great results with that heatsink since there are more people reporting quite high temps on those pcs. I also have one of those T021f heatsinks, currently it seats in t3500 with 2.2ghz processor, so maybe there will be no need for upgrading it in the future if yours is doing so well.
@ww4102
@ww4102 8 лет назад
the fans are fine. These worksations are very quiet on idle, but they can get really loud under load. I would say that 45 nm vs 32 nm cpu also makes a difference. Btw, nice work you've done with swaping psu, some say that it is a bit complicated : ] t3500 and t5500 are exactly the same in terms of case size, the t7500 is a huge PC
@ww4102
@ww4102 8 лет назад
Shouldn't you just convert one 6pin to 8 pin with an adapter and use the second 6 pin cable on 6 pin socket? Edit: I see your gpu needs two 8 pin connectors. I don't think you can use cpu power cable, but I am not sure.
@ww4102
@ww4102 8 лет назад
Is it a bad idea to use 6 to 8 pin adapter on each 6 pin connector? Otherwise probably using dual molex to 8 pin pcie is an option.

I have a Dell Precision T7400 with dual xeon processors running at 2.6GHZ and I replaced them with a matching pair of xeon 3.16GHz pulled out of a working T7400 but after putting it all back together instead of booting I get a screen saying that no processor is detected in either slot. Do you think that this may be due to my pc having an older bios version, I was trying to find an answer before flashing the newest bios for this model to my pc.

Games donot use 12 core 24 threads but more clock speed per thread ....... Only for gaming a high clock-speed quad core will do. A single CPU system like T3500 with a Quad Core X5687 (which is a Quad Core 8 thread with highest Clock Speed in this Xeon Family) with high end Graphics card will give you a higher Score ....... If the purpose is gaming not rendering ..... then why bother about a dual CPU system instead of bothering about getting more graphics power. If the view is only gaming ...... skip the idea about Dell system, get a overclock able X58 MB on ebay with X5687 CPU and use the best Gaming Cabinet with lots of Fans and GTX1080s in SLI mode.

I have one question more: I have dell t5400 with 2 xeon e5400 cpus. So, my system (w8.1 64bit) does not recognize second cpu when I go to my computer + properties. It shows only one cpu. But, BIOS and device manager shows both of CPUs (all of 8 cores) and thisi is confising to me. My question is: does my PC use both of CPU or only one of them. If it doesn'tuse both of CPU, what to do to fix my problem. I saw some guys on youtube have same configuration as I do, and their OS use both of cpus. Thanks for your time.

I've got a T3500 with 12GB RAM that cost me about $10, and a T5400 board that cost me about $25 with dual X5450s. I need one of those X5450s for a Vostro 230s, so I'm debating on whether to do the conversion. Of course I haven't even put both side by side to see if it is possible. If not, it will make things easier and I'll go for a single 6-core in the T3500. Not a gaming machine, just a daily use box.

The motherboard in his machine can support the 2nd CPU riser card. If he bought it he could include a second matching CPU :)

Not sure if newer Windows support multiple sockets. Basic/Home version of Vista/7 could only see 1 processor unit/socket. Although it could see multiple cores per socket.

These use ECC DDR3, of which the best one supported is PC3-10600 (1333MHz)

absolutely it's not like you're keeping tax documents or something. i'm wonder if a cheap h700 or something might have unleashed even more speed on your raid 0.

one last question. did the new PSU just drop in? Were any of the screw holes or were any of the mobo connectors proprietary pinouts?

I have dual Xeon x5472 @3GHz in my t7400, with a 1k watt psu, and 8gb ram, would i be able to put in a gtx 1060-1070 with no bottleneck?
@MrGeforcerFX
@MrGeforcerFX 7 лет назад
GTX 1060 should be ok, but the 1070 could find itself being bottleneck by the lower IPC of those core 2 based xeons in games that are still single thread focused.
@L318T0N
@L318T0N 7 лет назад
So is this 1070 bottleneck true, Mr. Son of a Tech?
@L318T0N
@L318T0N 7 лет назад
Thank you for the reply. Im still debating between the RX-480 and the 1060/1070 then but dependent on the bottleneck being less which will be my go-to GPU (whichever card will bottleneck less based on my ddr3 and pcie 2.0 limiting factor, will be the one I buy)

Can this pc support gtx 1080ti?
@manojgupta3770
@manojgupta3770 6 лет назад
Since it has PCIE expansion slot so technically yes it can support , however not sure if the case can accommodation such a huge (physically) Graphics Card. Also in a cabinet like this with little room for air flow and no scope to add many large case fans, only a blower style card can be hosted.

X5690 is the best CPU that T5500 would support. It is always advisable to update the BIOS to latest version which in case of T5500 is A18. You can download it from Dell support site. Upgrading BIOS is easy. Whether X5690 would be best option for yr system denpends upon what you do with your system. For Productivity/ Vedio Editing / Virtualisation / Photoshop stuff more cores means more horsepower. For other day to day stuff / Gaming etc. faster cores are advisable over more cores. For your system fastest core CPU is X5687 which has 4 cores whereas X5690 has slightly less clockspeed compared to X5687 but 6 cores i.e., 2 more cores. However, second hand X5690 is priced almost twice the price of X5680 in used CPU market, whereas X5680 is only about 100 MHz slower than X5690. So, if price-performance is a priority than X5680 scores over X5690.(Depends upon what exact deals you are getting). GTX 1060 is supported by your system also SATA SSDs are supported without any issues. But in my case I boot windows 10 from PCIE NVME SSD but it requires a lot of MODs as it is not natively supported.

oh cool probably can get it on ebay somewhere if its missing. I sold my AMD bulldozer machine a few years back and built an old server similar to yours but its LGA771 so max is 2 X 3Ghz quad cores still a very powerful cheap machine been using it ever since with no issues ...looking an upgrade haha

Son of a Tech I just got a t5600 with dual Xeon 2690s and a Quadro K2000. My 825w Dell PSU only has 2 6 pin connectors for a gpu, can I just get new psu cords or do I need to go for a gtx980 or some other gpu that needs the 6 pins only?

Your chart is likely calculating for 2x CPUs. In which case those Xeons are 12 cores total, 24 threads. But each CPU alone is 6 cores.
@farukmetin9475
@farukmetin9475 3 года назад
You need to get into the biosa and activate the technologies so he can see the 24 cores. I had the same problem as myself very simple enter and activate via bios.
