Two screens for the price of four. Nailed the ultrawide+ condition right out of the park.
@Megaatron1
@Megaatron1 4 года назад
Most professionals can write them off their taxes. So they don't care much if it's 50% more expensive but get the convenience of one cable and no monitor rearrangements anymore.
@HenryTownsmyth
@HenryTownsmyth 4 года назад
@@Megaatron1 One doesn't save 50% by writing off a component of their taxes. If you buy something for 2000 USD you can simply mark this item as an expense and that 2000 won't be taxed. So if you pay 20% tax you only save 20% not 50%. One doesn't save at all if you consider this is an overpriced monitor so you are still paying 30% more.

Now that this has been out another year, seen these for as low as $1300 new. However, even at $2,000 if the price seems unreasonable, then you are definitely not the target audience for hardware of this level.

@@pearljameric I believe you have missed the humour in Miguel Harrera's comment. You might remember that the screen being reviewed is a so-called "super ultrawide" screen, which reflects the colossal size of it. Because of the technology and material that went into creating such a screen, it also carries a hefty price tag that most people can only dream of affording. So, Harrera cleverly uses the same adjectives that describe the size of the screen in order to describe the amount of money that would need to be spent in order to aquire the screen, resulting in a humorous and witty expression of the sentiment that this screen will mostly remain in people's fantasies, and not reality.

To be frank, I've learned that there is a such thing as too big. 39' 4k was too big. The other thing I learned is that total screen size is what matters, resolution is slightly less important. I nearly bought a high res laptop thinking it was going to help with multi-tasking over a 1366 x 768; it wouldn't help much aside from downscaling the UI elements. It would still only display the same amount of information once things are scaled to a comfortable size. As of right now, I think the sweet spot for me is 1440p at 32', bit I haven't used one yet. Text scaling should be similar to 24' at 1080p, yet more realestate without being too big. I'm also debating on trying a vertical monitor for the heck of it. The IPS HP that uses the same display as the old Macs is pretty tempting.

I wouldn't agree that it's well suited for gaming in general. Some games, namely racing and some 3rd person adventure games can scale well and take advantage of the wider screen. Other games, like FPS just don't work, and I can't see how that could be made to work. As for production, you hit the nail on the head. I use a ultra wide 2k monitor currently plus an additional 1280p monitor for production work (using Visual studios is amazing to work with, where I can have one half of the window dedicated to my code, and the other half to my UI, plus the smaller screen open with Chrome in the event I need to look up some function that I'm not the most familier with.

The reason why this product wont be named "double-wide" is a connotation issue in the US. Double-wide in the US has a meaning of "manufactured home", "mobile home" or "trailer home". It often has a further meaning of "cheap" or "trashy" (although many modern double-wides are REALLY REALY nice homes). So the term Superultrawide makes better marketing in the US.

Any good super ultra wide 49" monitor for Sim Racing game use Only? I'm not looking into high quality graphic details but more into high refresh rate for RTX 3080?. I prefer the 49" as my rig is not only for sim racing but also IT tech support work remotely at home and I need the 2 X 27" equivalent as I have to use LogMeIn to support our users. My current 34" is just not wide enough to get the resolution I need to work comfortably.

I personally consciously decided to go for the 1080p Samsung 49” 120+Hz instead of for the 1440p setup as this is much less of a resource hog on older graphics cards. I have older eyes - in my 40s - and notice I have to scale up the font on 1440p displays to something equivalent of a 1080p monitor so to me 1440p is wasted. This might actually be the case for other “older” netizens.
