Ahhh! I went thru your process and my recovery usb that I made fails every time. I’ve tried it with the stick in usbA and usbC ports and it still doesn’t complete. So how can I do I full fresh ssd install with no boot partition on the ssd???
Great video and your brother in law is lucky. I had Dell laptops in the past but found upgrading were Dell specific components and weren't able to use 3rd party parts in the past but parts only from Dell. Build from Dell was not as well built as Apple or IBM/ Lenovo laptops.
I share your experience if I go back some years into my past, Dell was not my first choice back then. But I think Dell changed nowadays. The XPS 13 has great build quality, solid like a rock. And it accepted my Samsung EVO SSD without any flaws or issues. Most importantly, the non-glossy screen goes up to 600nits which is readable even in my backyard. Thermal management is also surprisingly good if I compare it with my experience on Dell from years ago where you could cook an egg on the laptop :) On this XPS 13, fans are hardly noisy, battery life is long, real life experience of about 7+ hours (forget the nonsense numbers the manufacturers claim), and performance is really good for a notebook with an Intel Iris Plus graphics chip.
@@mathphotographer well thats a comprehensive list of the changes that I remembered from Dell. I would avoid using Dell items like the plague. I will be seeing how these laptops from a longevity and robustness compared to my mac book pros and the latest 13" & 16" mac book pro with the new graphics card that I have purchased Apple.
This was informative. I have an older model and was thinking about upgrading to a 1TB. would I need to do the same process or download a program to backup all of my files?
A really useful video thanks. Was there a particular reason you went for the SAMSUNG replacement SSD as it seems to be the most expensive brand in the market? Intel, Seagate, WD, Corsair, Crucial, Sabrent, XPG all offer PCIe, NVMe far cheaper units. Is there another specification I need to look out for in the SSD modules?
Useful video, I hope to upgrade in the near future! My Dell xps laptop ssd has been split Ubuntu/Windows. In the future I would just like to run Windows. If I follow your tutorial will the recovery USB just contain the Windows recovery? (at the time of buying my laptop in the UK only high spec dev option was available!)
The USB stick usually will also contain the required drivers, at least I did not have to download them one by one again. Don't forget a full backup of all of your data before starting the upgrade procedure.
Thank you for the helpful video. If my XPS 13 comes with pre-installed Adobe Photoshop and Premiere Elements, should I still choose "Fully clean drive" when recovering my laptop?
Hi! May I know if Samsung 980 Pro SSD NVME M.2 is compatible on this laptop? I have been searching online and can’t find answers online. I hope you can help me. Thank you 🙏
Question the recovery is what recovery the windows? So if i upgrade and with the recovery drive i dont have to install new window? And need a new window key?
Yes indeed, non-touch, matte screen, fantastic! Why would you like to touch your laptop screen? The matte finish is nice, no reflections, the screen is super bright with 600 cd/sqm, just nice!
how's the experience so far with the 9300? I'm planning to get one very soon and do the ssd replacement too! I'm just a bit worried after seeing a lot of people having issues with wifi/sound devices/hot temperatures/fan noise/screen flickering My plan is to do a clean install and avoid all the bloatware from dell + replace the wifi killer driver with the standard ax200 (which is based one). Hopefully the latest BIOS + clean windows and 0 bloatware will make me a happy owner. Please, share anything! Specially fan noise/temperature issues
@Ambicity Games Thank you so much for this perfectly detailed reply!! This answers and "kills" any fears of purchasing this! I'll watch your rdr video since that's a proper real-world stress test and re-read this reply again just to make sure I don't have extra questions! BIG THANKS!
The 9300 is a really good small device. What I like in particular is that performance is good but fan noise is low or even off. I never had such a quiet machine as the 9300.
