Dell XPS 13 9350 - How to replace the keyboard 

Let me start by saying a big thank you to you. This was very detailed and helpful. All I want to add is that if anyone wants to replace the keyboard, minimize the parts that you disconnect to the very best of your ability! I did and that helped me a lot. I only removed or disconnected the parts that prevented me from getting to the keyboard. For instance, it is absolutely not necessary to disconnect the orange colored cable close to the fan. Neither is it necessary to disconnect the heat sink like you rightly pointed out. The cables you disconnected from the WLAN card was also unnecessary. All I did was disconnect the two cables that connected the card to the board. The less parts are disconnected, the less complications when re-assembling.

This video saved my dell xps 13, which i bought in 2014. Took me almost 2hrs to follow the tutorial step by step. I ended up having 1 extra screw. Apart from that, everything went smoothly. One more hint, it's not necessary to remove everything. The battery, the speakers, and even the main board can be put on the side without being completely detached. Thank you so much again!!

Thanks for the video. And for the comments. I successfully replaced my keyboard and the machine is a good as new. Took me 3-4 hours, but then I am retired software guy with minimal hardware experience. (I had replaced the battery previously. ) The tiny hinge connectors were a challenge simply because I did not know how they opened. I did disconnect the battery and the speakers from the motherboard, just to be able to get it out of the way. But as suggested by the commenters, I kept the system board+fan+Oi board all connected - just removed the screws, and flipped it over. So for $70 keyboard and some elbow grease, my 10 year old laptop will be good for another few years. Thank you all.

Thanks for this great detailed video, it is very helpful. My keyboard replacement went very smoothly. As many said before, I kept the motherboard, the fan, and the I/O card together without removing the heat sink. No need to disconnect most cables, simply flip the whole unit over to the front.

Thank you so much. Just finished it now. Took me a while but wow what a great video. xps13 2017, did the battery at the same time. My case screws worked better with a torx 5. Toughest part was the connectors into the wifi card. But they went in. Cheers bro.

Thanks, this gave me the motivation and confidence I needed to do this. I changed the battery at the same time. After reassembling, I only had one screw I didn't find a home for. I'll take that as a success!

Your video was extremely helpful on my Dell XPS 13. Mine happened to have the phillips screw under the cover plate that yours was missing, as well as my metal bottom cover screws were T5 as opposed to T6, but rest was identical. Excellent video 👍 Thanks so much.

16:15 is where I ripped the tiny cardreader cable which is attached to the IOB (IO-Board): (The "hinges upwards" confused me, I thought you mean this tiny cable not then LCD cable which has such a "hinge", which is why I pulled the cable weirdly, my bad. The cable can be unlugged normally with only putting force on the PLASTIC not the cable itself. You might even be able to keep the tiny cardreader cable plugged in and just make sure the IOB is safe while continuing.) Fyi: I made sure the broken cardreader power cable wires are insulated, and the notebook works fine. I wont use the cardreader anyway. But all in all a very detailed description, thanks!

48:25 my XP13 was bought new and there were also just 2 of the 4 battery holder screws, so all good :)

33:30 You have to put the fan first at least in some model variants there is a screw-holder which has to go underneath the mainboard, but that's clean when you remove the mainboard/fan in this model variant Ahh, you're noticing this in 35:15, too :)

Thanks, very good and thorough explanation. Unfortunately I seem to have messed something up when putting the XPS back together. My touchpad does soemtimes work and soemtimes it doesn't and the screen doesn't come back from sleep when it went blank for energy saving. :/

This video is quite comprehensive to understand what inside a dell laptop. Yesterday, while opening the lid it got wide open at one side but I suspect hindge still seems to be fine. Any idea if it is worth it to take to dell store or should try it by myself. Is there a way to share picture of that fault with you please?

Stuck Key Detected - even with keyboard removed!! I've got a Dell XPS Laptop. When I switch it on it produces the most deafening series of beeps. It would appear that the 2key below the backspace when I make them stuck, as the only way I can get into windows Now the weirder part. I took the cover off and disconnected & removed the keyboard and trackpad. But the problem persists: it seems this key is constantly transmitting, even without the keyboard!! Where is it coming from?? Any ideas on how to fix this?

Hello, thank you so much for the video i enjoyed watching it! So my ''W'' keycap got removed and in the process of me trying to put it back i also accidenatlly removed one of those metal hook thingies that attach to the keycap.. my question is are those attached to the keyboard or the keyboard frame itself? like when I replace my keyboard do I have to just get a new keyboard like you did in this video or did I permanently damage it?

Great video! I almost feel confident enough to give this a go myself. But before I do so and order a new keyboard, I wanted to ask you the following: I have several keys (enter, right arrow, U, H, backspace) that suddenly require a very firm/deliberate push in order to register. This happened out of no where and I didn't spill any liquids or anything of the sort. This makes typing almost impossible if constant key strokes are being missed. Do I replace the entire keyboard or is there anything else I can try? I've searched the web for hours but cannot find a thing. Thank you sooo much!
