Thank you for your video, this was a super helpful resource. My keyboard keys had broken so i ordered one from Dell, replaced it in about 3 hours. And your video proves you dont need to remove fans or SSD to replace the keyboard!
We followed instructions very closely and upon re-assembly the laptop no longer powers up. Now we have to investigate and see where the problem is. The power cord that was taped to the bottom of the keyboard seems to be the problem. It did not Re-stick to the keyboard and may have caused a short somewhere…. Any other people have similar problems?
one of the key issue with this video is the person is not using static bands. a laptop with small micro processors will fry up if not properly grounded.
Great video but does not apply to XPS 13 9360 model. The 9360 has a different hardware configuration and the keyboard can be replaced without removing all of the mainboard connectors and daughter boards.
I just did it following your excellent instructions. I was wondering however, is it really necessary to disconnect the motherboard from all the cables that connect to it from the top on the left and the right (at 3'00'' to 3'30'')? Couldn't I just have left these cables connected and gently lifted the motherboard to replace the keyboard beneath?
If you tried that, you would be unsuccessful because there are additional screws hidden/covered by the motherboard holding the keyboard in place. Removing the motherboard and cables is definitely required in order to access the covered keyboard screws.
