The part you removed from your machine, the coupling carafe, has no mechanical parts and is simply an outlet. Attached to the outlet are a set of micro-switches which dictate whether hot water or steam is driven to the outlet. If, by chance, replacing the coupling carafe cured your problem, you might have saved yourself money simply by cleaning the outlet which is what I did when faced with an identical problem with my EC850.M machine. Having removed the coupling carafe and the micro-switches I then soaked the coupling in hot water for a while before taking a toothpick to the outlet's aperture (a needle might have been a better choice considering splinters) to remove any crud that might be adhering to the internal surfaces. I gave the outlet a thorough rinse and left it to dry. After reassembling the machine the frother worked perfectly. Kudos to you for identifying the culprit as having watched your video, I managed to save a bob or two. Cheers!
Hi there, Yes, you are correct in some cases you can get away with just cleaning the coupling carafe. However in my case the coupling carafe had suffered so much wear they when I tried to clean it the coupling carafe's channel was worn down meaning the pressure of sucking up the milk from the milk jug could not be maintained, therefore this was the only option. Anyway, glad my was able to help you in your troubles! Many thanks Samuel
Thanks for this - we've done it twice now. Saved us a fortune as last time we had a similar problem it cost £130 for DeLonghi to repair plus all the hassle of boxing the machine up to be picked up for transit. Also when the machine came back there were parts that had been put on my machine that weren't mine. When I complained to DeLonghi they sent me new parts and admitted that they often have several machines on the work bench at the same time.
Brilliant video. Thanks very much for doing this! Your fix solved my issue too. Part from Amazon in Canada was $25. You saved me from spending a grand on a new machine. Well done lad.
Hi Sam, I just wanted to say thanks for the information. I ordered a coupling carafe which arrived today and it took me about thirty minutes to fit it and now everything is working properly again. By the way, my machine is the Delonghi Magnifica Pronto.
Excellent video. I have the same problem. Just received the Delonghi ESAM 3500 from a friend. Everything else is working except the milk frother and hot water tap. I will get a new coupling carafe and will see how it goes. Thanks
Thanks for this really helpful video. I did the pin thing first and that worked for a week or so, then it stopped again. I ordered the part arrived today and finally now have a decent coffee again. Thanks heaps.
i've recently done this fix on the ESAM6600 which has the same milk jug. I didn't actually replace the part, but the problem appears to be that a tiny hole in the larger black part (with the red O ring) gets blocked, meaning that steam can't come through and activate the milk jug. Easy fix....stick a needle in the black part, find the tiny hole and push to clean out. Mine worked great after that.
What do you mean it was too worn ? there are no moving parts ? I ask because I replaced the o-rings after a good cleaning of the part now all I get is steam, I have even replaced the jug and still just steam. I am going through withdrawal for a decent coffee.
@@HowToFAQ Gosh how I chuckled at how easy you made this look! It is pretty difficult for most of us. I have n old Philips HD5730 and a new ES6600 jug (can't buy HD5730 lids anymore). After shortening the guide rails I can sometimes get the HD5730 to recognise the 6600 jug. Problem is it doesn't froth. I don't know if this machine ever frothed as I got it second hand. This very quick video shows the problem -- do you reckon it's the same problem (maybe to clean the red ringed spout) or something else? The pump thump sound seems okay, there's steam, but it's not sucking up the milk or test water. If you can let me know what you think, it'd be great. Thanks. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f11pQESXYsc.html
Cozicant, thank you for this tip. Did you clear the blockage by simply pushing a longish needle in from the front of the spout with the red ring at the front of the machine or did you disassemble the carafe out of the machine as shown in this video and then push the needle in from the back of the spout or some other way? I tried from the front with the machine assembled, no joy so far, but I think you're probably right about this being the cause. My machine is here in this video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f11pQESXYsc.html
Great video. Well done. I have the same problem with the ESAM 6600. Contacted delonghi as not very confident about replacing the coupler but have not received any response yet! Any idea if the steps will work with ESAM 6600? Doubt I will survive without the coffee.
Hi there, I have personally changed the part on a few machines and the coupling carafe is the same on most models. Look at the link in the description, there you can purchase the part. Hope this helps ! Many thanks Samuel
Thanks for posting. After 8 years and >10000 coffees my DeLonghi started having this problem. I replaced this part and it fixed the problem temporarily, but after another month I am back with the problem again. While it is possible that the new part was also defective, I worry that these fixes may be treating a symptom and there is a root cause somewhere that is going to recur. Anyway, hopefully your coffee maker remains trouble free but do share if you run into the problem again!
Thanks for quick answer! Yes, turns out I had also replaced this and also the pump! Did not help! Frustrated! Of the three parts, your fix posted above was the only one that worked, but only for a month and now I'm back again. I have only theories -- although I descale regularly, perhaps after many years scale is coming from somewhere else in the system, or rust, or something, to clog this thing's arteries...
Great Video. My Perfecta machine will start to froth the milk and dispense hot water after the machine has rested, but then it slows to a halt and makes a buzzing noise. Do you think replacing the replacing the coupling carafe is the answer? Thanks
+C00Cker You're most welcome. After having quite a bit of trouble with the milk not correctly foaming I began looking for a solution, in the end I took a guess that it might be the coupling carafe, after purchasing one I filmed this video explaining the process. The coffee machine is still going strong! Glad the video helped! Many thanks Samuel
Hi, I have a Delonghi Dinamica350.55 and after descaling I have a same problem..milk is not frothing, can you tell me where did you buy this parts, and what is the name exactly? Thanks
Great video - thanks. I have a Perfecta 5500 that makes coffee fine but but pumping hot water out for descaling, hot water out through spout and steam output is NOT working! For example, when I try to descale I go through the menu OK but as soon as it's supposed to pump water through to descale I can hear the pump going but straining like it's trying but cannot push out any hot water! It strains trying fro a few seconds then stops and shows the descaling has finished but it hasn't! No hot water pumped through! I imagine that the fault is electronic such as a water valve or solenoid not functioning so that hot water cannot get through or out through the spout if you're trying to get some hot water only. I am concerned because it REALLY needs to be descaled! Please help anyone!!! THANKS!!
I have a Perfecta ESAM5500 and can get no steam or hot water out of the front nozzle. All I get is hearing the pump trying to pump out water/steam but without either being released it stops trying. I also have the same problem when trying to descale this unit. Same groaning of the pump but with no output. Can you please tell me which valve or switch actually controls the release of steam and hot water?? Thanks for any help.
Tks bro..i have the same problem. And I thought ist the weather Pomp.. But couldn't wass that because I could make Kaffee. I will try the same if I find this on market. Tks you a lot and I will Post on my channel if a could repair or not. Bye
Hi- I have a primadona avant Esam 6700. But my when making latte etc.. it always shows my frother in position 1 on the lcd screen but on the milk jug it’s on position 2. Do you think this can fix that issue?
Have you tried cleaning everything thoroughly - I wonder whether the connection between the milk jug and coffee machine has been blocked with something.
You're most welcome, when I first worked out that this was the solution I was also very pleased since it is very simple and doesn't require complex knowledge.
Hi Samuel, my Esam6900 is not working on the steam function as well as milk frother/Hot chocolate/clean functions. Would this solution fix this problem?
+Tony Hi Tony, After taking it apart before deciding to order any parts I notice that all the frothering was done through this part. I tried different milk jugs but yet the issues stayed, it just wouldn't frother. I then took out the coupling carafe to clean it and noticed it was slightly worn out/ dirty ( I presume not cleaning the coffee machine enough may have caused this) I then took an educated guess that the problem was with this part. I bought this part (coupling carafe), it was fairly cheap as you may already now. Then as the video explains replacing the part fixed it. Hope this helps you understand it a bit clearer. Many thanks Samuel
+Johan Olwage Hi Johan, when I say description look for the part just below the video where it says "show more" and click on it. This is the description
I thought I had this problem, only hot steam came out, no milk, but turned out that there was some hardened milk in the throtter itself at the side where the milk comes in. It blocked the tiny hole. I was able to remove it with a toothpick, rinsed it and now works fine.
Nice one, mine had been damaged more severely and meant replacement was inevitable. But it's great when it finally works again and you can have a good coffee! Many thanks Samuel
Hi. I’m having this same problem. Hot water coming out but no milk - just alot of steam and a few drops when trying to get some milk. Where is the theotter and how can I get to it. Thanks.
Excellent video. I have the same problem. Just received the Delonghi ESAM 3500 from a friend. Everything else is working except the milk frother and hot water tap. I will get a new coupling carafe and will see how it goes. Thanks
