You asked, so here is a big list. Designing a system for fully enclosing the cockpit with eisenglass and/or netting is an absolute must. The best way I have seen it done is adding channels into the coach roof supports so that you can slide in and out half of a zippered setup, and then you can install the panels by zipping them on. Getting those channels on the supports and the rest of the boat is key. People often try to retrofit with riveted on snaps, but they do not work anywhere near as well. The reason to make them slide on and off is that ... well cloth and zippers wont last forever and will need to be replaced. Wish I could supply an example where I saw this at, but I dont recall ... I have wanted it ever since. Fuel polisher and fuel transfer system. Kennan makes a super nice setups for this. It is particularly nice to set it up to use the same fuel filters as the engines. Setup the chart plotter on its own circuit so that it is A) easier to troubleshoot faults in the navigation circuit, B) you can turn off other circuits to trouble shoot or conserve power in emergencies but retrain navigation. Fans in the engine compartment for when you are working in there -- is it possible to add ducting or vents to make them work even better? With reversible fans could this function as engine compartment evacuation as well? Might be worth looking into whether a boiler system for heating is more efficient for you than small craft diesel heaters. On the same line, I am assuming the hulls are designed to take true insulation ... none the less it is still an aluminum boat, some of the super efficient AC systems that Clark on Temptress has designed may be of interest for the cabins. I know you guys are planning to take this north, is it possible you might want to let the boat freeze in at some point? There are special considerations for the through hulls if you want to be able to do that. It should not be that hard to design in, but retrofitting is quite an undertaking. Some other minor points. Built in gang planks for med moaring can be multi functional as diving boards and food/fish prep if they are designed / installed with it in mind. Easy to access anchor points for harnesses on the sugar scoops so that you can get out on the sugar scoops underway is pretty important for gaffing fish or doing other things off the back of the boat safely. If it is not easy you will cheat, and we all know what that leads to. Anchor points for easy to setup sun shade over the trampolines.

Great Modification to add the outdoor Kitchen. As a suggestion I would consider keeping the seating area to the length of 1-Brian (at least) I think not being able to lie down for a sleep on it is something you would eventually come to really dislike and regret. I would also remove the 45-Deg angles of the seating area, they look nice but are much less functional, and that could be at least 2 more people sitting there with out taking space away from the Outdoor Kitchen. The seating are is only as long as its shortest side. =]

Sierra is growing up so fast! As a father of 2 girls (11 and 13), all I can say is that the age she is at right now is truly one of the most magical ages. Cherish these moments as they will pass WAY too fast. She is very lucky to have you two as her parents. You all are truly ‘Salt of the earth’ people and the world needs more people like you. What I really like with a lot of the newer Cats, and am missing a bit here, is the connection between inside and outside. Like with HH or with Seawind, you can open up the back and really connect the living spaces, and create a lot of ventilation as well. I would maybe look at redesigning the wall between the galley and the back "cockpit" so it can fully open up, since in the design you have there's not much you can do with the door. Love the big roof and the other changes though!

Love the kitchen changes right away. Enclosed cockpit is a must. Ability to work on engine and systems w/o hanging upside down, dealbreaker! Small outdoor galley is great use of space, especially with a grill. Talk about the dingy and hoisting and mounting. Fridge freezer space, food and tool lockers, sail storage. You 2 are the best. Older with fixed income so best I can do is like, comment and send my best wishes.

I love the idea of an outside galley, it will reduce both the heat and moisture buildup in the main cabin, I hope you will include a hot and cold outdoor shower for after you have been diving. I would also include lighting to the hull so you can attract marine life, including squid and fish as a food source.

What else should you put on your boat? Hmmm, how about your brother! At least for a few episodes...

Met you in Visby at Medeltidsveckan a couple of years back and at that time I made sure to watch almost all the episodes all the way from the start. Haven't watched youtube at all last 1,5 years and got really impressed when I checked in your channel again and saw the new plans for Delos 2.0 that you talked about during the years. Ever since Water world the movie ( 😂 ) I dreamed of a multihull that can go anywhere and be self sustaining. Seems like you are going to get quite close. Good job so far!

Some ideas for sailing higher lattitudes: limit the amount of holes in the boat ( create a manifest for watermaker(s) airco, engine, gen-set, other). Calculate the strenght of the roof with a weight of 50cm snow. You may carry large drums of floating / nylon ropes (200m plus). Imagine where they would go and how to mount them. Heating: this is not easy to design as you like to heat the boat while you have all windows shut. How to reduce humidity? How to ventilate in an area where it is minus 10c. Some aras may not be used and for that reason do not have to be heated. (heating of the cockpit (outside) is also important. With an enclosi you can keep it above freezingpoint that way.

This has been a long time coming. You deserve it. One of the first sailing channels. Watching you since 2017. Can't wait to see the boat developing. Viewers will increase!!

I used to have both of my daughters “help me” when I was doing construction and mechanical work around the house. The older they got the less interest they were. I didn’t think it ever really sank in up until they went away to college. They both quickly became the person everyone went to if someone had automotive/mechanical issues, spackle and paint ect. Really surprised me and made me feel good and proud when they tell me the stories now that they are 20 and 23.

Sierra is such a delight. What a wonderful way to grow up. We love all your work but she is definitely the star.

Hi Brian, at minute 10:41 when thinking of the water collection pipes , you were mentioning valves and filters. Have you considered the sediments and how will you deal with potential build up in the pipe lining ? These will eventually require maintenance and if you position your system as such to facilitate maintenance works and allow for ease of access, these considerations and forward planning throughout the lifecycle of the assets on board overtime will make your life more managable.

After years of sailing monohulls and after sailing and living on a cat for 2 years, I have seen some new stuff on some of the new cats which is pretty awesome. I like the camera up on the mast which is usually located at the spreader bars, it sure would help in picking up a mooring as well as FLIR for night while coming into an anchorage or mooring. Of course the new radars are awesome too with all of the massive tech improvements and bells and whistles. Forward looking sonar is awesome so you see what depth is coming up instead of what the depth of the seafloor you are currently sitting above. Some extendable platforms off of the sugar scoops can be a big help when SCUBA diving. Quick disconnect air located off of one of the sugarscoops built right into the boat would be cool to avoid air lines running over the boat. There is the pretty cool gimicky stuff like mast furling mainsail which looks cool but I have never used and I wonder about maintenance issues for blue water... One question I have is about the weight of the new boat with the add-ons. Will you need to add more displacement to make up for the added weight of the upgrades? What about weight and balance? I am familiar with aircraft building not boat engineering but I imagine that adding weight aft might need weight forward to offset? Anyway, I cannot wait to see the new cat!

It's great to see Sierra beginning to learn how to care for the boat (beginning with Maggie!) as well as making some early attempts at actually swimming! Before you know it, she'll be as agile as a porpoise and diving deeper and deeper alongside of you. I enjoyed practically everthing about this video. Thanks!

Incredible design for Delos 2.0, it would be interesting to leave the stern platform free by making the support for the dingy foldable or sliding, so you would have an area free of obstacles. Hugs from Brazil.

Sierra is at such a fun age! This was one of my favorite times with my own children. It’s amazing to get to see their little personalities start to come out. It’s like you are getting to know your children one a much deeper level and everyday is just a blessing. Eat it up! 😉

Sierra being old enough to help you sand and paint is mind blowing to me. She's so at home on the water, watching her little feet grip the rear of the dinghy as she walked over it was so cute. She's so young and yet she's already got her Delos-caliber tan just like you and Kazza. I've been following you guys since 2012, seeing the birth of both Sierra and Delos 2.0 makes me keenly aware of the passage of time. I think your changes are spot on! It's amazing how you guys and other YT'ers that live this life are able to help refine the design of these boats. Your day to day knowledge and experience takes even good designs and make them so much better. Honestly, the boat designers should make the galley, cockpit roof, dingy cradle changes you made part of their standard design.

You guys are such great parents, and the result speaks for herself! But seriously, the way Brian didn't try to "correct" or "direct" as Sierra started painting Maggie was textbook perfection - super heartwarming.

Such a big day for Sierra! Those first strokes on your own are never forgotten. She's a-growing up!

What i would personally Do is eliminate one room and make a big storage room for food with another fridge and freezer! Like a big big pantry! Unless you plan to have lots of guests on colder climates you can probably manage to have them sleep on the saloon for the free days of their satay I would also try to add some type of lights on the hawl to light up the water around the boat at night

Love the look of your new boat. Makes so much sense to make the roof as big as possible. Much more solar, more shelter and davits all in one. Hybrid power. On Delos you only have one engine. On a cat you usually have 2. I have thought about this quite a lot and if it was my boat I would have one slightly larger engine on the guest cabin side, with a hybrid electric motor attached, so you can either motor with the engine or electric motor, and you can regen when sailing. On the owners side I would have just an electric motor and give the extra space/weight/money saved to increasing the battery storage as much as possible. If you need 2 engines for entering /leaving anchorage the you can either use the diesel engine and one electric motor or 2 electric motors. If you have to motor for a long distance you can use the diesel, and you have a really big battery bank to match your big solar array. It should mean that most of the time you can motor on electric only. If you had 200kwh of battery storage you would not need a standalone generator, and you could motor forf 8 hours using 20kw/hour with no input from solar. Most times cruising you travel for a bit and then stop for a few days giving the solar time to recharge your battery bank. If for any reason you had a problem with the diesel engine you have redundancy of the two electric motors to fall back on. My guess is you will have at least 5kw of solar which means the battery bank would recharge from 20% to full in approx 8 days assuming 20kwh per day net input when at anchor. Just a thought. Wish you all the best.

Ok, you were asking for suggestions. You got me att "BBQ" in the outside galley. You should really look into a Kamado Joe for that. It is an exceptional grill made from ceramics that works more like a stove. It is very energy efficient and a small amount of charcoal will go for hours and hours. It is sturdy and it will transform your cooking forever. You can smoke in it, you can use it as a stove top, you can bake bread, do low and slow ribs or brisket or smash burgers. It comes with a lifetime guarantee and it is really sturdy. The only downside is that you will have guests all the time.

Yesss to the outside galley! We’ve been chopping veggies and cooking up dinner in the cockpit for years on our ‘no frills’ Catalina 30 and couldn’t understand why none of these bigger builds include one! Bloody brilliant! Stoked for the aluminum 2.0!

Just a comment on Olukai sandals....I was fighting plantar faciitus for a year and a half, I wore a boot for 4 months, I even had a cast for 6 weeks....finally I bought a pair of Olukai sandals, the footbed molds to your foot and are amazingly comfortable, well after 6 months wearing them almost exclusively, I was cured. Now any time I feel discomfort in my feet, I go back to the sandals and feel fine again after just a few days.....best sandals on the planet!

ask the builder to design and make 4 small hydrofoils attached to 4 ends of the bottom of the hull from outside so they can swing into the hull when not in use but that could be opened to use in the sea, they can help to lift not the whole hull but portion of the weight out of water so it will give the hull less displacement and will help to speed up and go a bit faster.. you guys can look to big cruise ships they use that idea of small hydrofoil as reference.. basically it will help increase the Bruce number ...

Idea: retractable arms to stowe Maggie... Arms could slide in and out under deck for easy "stowage" and will leave the dive platform open for working with dive gear and jumping of back for kids!

I would want Birds Eye cameras on mast so I could see everything while docking.

I think that if I were designing this boat i would make a small change to the front netting. Since you have a forward cockpit, i would go with a hard floor between the two hulls for at least half of the distance to the bows. Anyone who has ever been on a Cat in rough seas knows of the splash that can pass through the netting -- since all of the lines are in the forward cockpit, every time that you are in rough conditions and need to reef down you may find yourself soaked by the time you get back inside. The partial hard deck would help deflect some of the direct spray to the forward cockpit, and as a bonus you can gain some useful lazarette space forward for additional storage within the extension.

What have you looked at for corrosion protection? There are some interesting electronic frequency (pulsed) field devices that are available, and of course the traditional sacrificial anode method of reducing / negating corrosion, what methods are you looking at? This is a surprisingly big topic with a lot of controversy and new players in the field, mostly with unproven or new tech.

I feel like there should be an SV Delos museum. So many memories with this boat over the years.

How about making the dingy platform a bit wider and make it a hydraulic lift. So it can lower down into the water making it a swim platform and then further lower it so you can float the dingy on to it.

Love the design for Delos 2.0. As expected, lots of intelligent thought being put into it. I would ask if it is possible to make the area where Maggie is stored wider so you can still walk around 360 degrees while Maggie is stored? Maybe a little more room for fishing? Just a thought. With such a large and robust roof will the temptation to go up there mean you want some creature comforts up there too. As a diver from higher latitudes- wonder if you need some more kit up and storage space? Assuming you will dive in cold water a bench, suit hanging and proper beefy ladder might be better to add now rather than bodge later? Exciting project, good luck.

I have spent my life in Electonics and power control, so you asked for commentary. I would make sure I had adequate power, using victron inverters, and Node Red for controlling and monitoring integral in Victron. You can automate your RO and a lot of sub systems yourself, even relating to safety. Thanks for sharing your fantastic inspirational adventure of life. With your access to Internet, your power systems can be remotely checked weather predictive charging and when you are on shore, still have access to your systems to monitor. Fantastic what you doing.
