Alaska Airlines flew the 880, also. The above skipped that. Also, this was the early 1960's when General Dynamics was SUPPOSED to have "withdrawn' from the commercial market. The Convair 580 started by Convair with the request of 'Frontier', in 1964! It was a stretch version of the 'Metropolitan' Convair 440. It was a huge success! Frontier, Ozark, Aspen, North Central, Eastern, and Lake Central, were just a few airlines that purchased them! The 580 rolled out 6 years after the 880. Then, there was the Convair 600 ! wasn't alive but always find this plane intriguing. I wish there was still an era where there were more competitive brands with not just a niche lineup but multiple players in the same type of aircraft it would be more exciting for me I've exhausted my civil aviation
I grew up in Detroit Michigan and we used to fly Northwest to New York to catch a Pan Am flight to the Carribbean every year. It was glorious then. this film WAs the way it used to be.
While Delta's first 880 set a transcontinental speed record on its delivery flight, in actual service the Boeing 720, which was based on the 707, was faster, at 640 mph compared to 615 mph for the 880. The 720's Pratt & Whitney engines were also more fuel efficient than the 880's GE engines.

I wonder if that serviceman at 12:10 asked permission from the person sitting behind him before he reclined his seat. You do that nowadays and you are liable to get a whack in the head.🤷♂️ The seats are so close and folks don’t want their personal space invaded.
