I may have previously commented on this video; it doesn't matter. Thank you for not only showing how to fix this specific faucet, but more importantly the process of _how_ to go through this type of repair in general. The details you show, keeping track of the parts during disassembly, the caution to not lose parts or damage things help to make it easier to reassemble it and know where the new parts go and fit together. You're not just demonstrating doing it, you're explaining the how and why behind it. Add in the recommendations for tools and using them properly, and the lesson is complete! Well done!

Thank you for a wonderfully detailed yet not too wordy explanation how to replace this single type of faucet. I rent but the current repair person is sadly inept and makes a huge mess for simple repairs. I was shocked at the results of the 6 inches caulking job under the tub faucet he did in my shower/bathtub that still had gaps, zero confidence. I fixed my leaky kitchen faucet without any surprises or lengthily clean up after.

Outstanding video. However, here's a suggestion I learned from doing this fix. When reassembling parts, do NOT use a wrench to tighten the top cap (fancy nut). Just tighten that nut finger tight, and maybe give it another 1/4 twist with a wrench. Wrenching the nut down like a gorilla forces the ball against the (concave) mating surface and it rubs. First time: I firmly wrenched down that nut until it was snug and the faucet developed a slow drip - drip - drip, after final assembly in closed position - moving handle slightly off center seemed to stop drip. Also, I could feel a slight "drag" when moving the lever around, in certain positions, indicating something was rubbing. I disassembled it again and noticed the 2 rubber washers (seats) were flush with the hole, instead of protruding slightly, indicating the ball was pressing against the body. After reassembling I tightened the nut hand tight. There was still a tiny drip drip. I then retightened it by hand with about a 1/5 or 1/4 additional turn with a wrench. There was still approx. 1/8" gap between the (lower) edge of the nut and (upper) edge of spout assembly. If you keep cranking the nut tighter and tighter, that space will disappear until both edges touch. The first time I did this, it seemed normal to crank until the space disappeared and the nut was tight. (Like you would with typical threaded plumbing pressure pipe.) But in this case it seems a little more finesse is needed. Just my 2 cents.

Delta lifetime warranty is GREAT!!! Just got an entire repair kit coming in the mail! 1) Triple-confirm the part number of your item with Delta rep. You will need to take photos, and supply them with photos! 2) Don't buy junk in retail stores that is all cheap plastic. Only buy authorized / certified Delta replacement parts!!! Unfortunately, what does NOT come in the kit is the large foundation gasket (plate something). Buy this one yourself, and give this thing a complete makeover! According to the lady rep, clean all water corrosion and hard water mineral deposits with half-half solution of vinegar and water. Immerse handle and spout into the same solution to clean all gunk inside. Then carefully flush out the vinegar. Gaskets come pre-lubricated. If not, use NON-PETROLEUM lubricant for rubber parts. Assemble. Hopefully your wife gives you something special for all the work that you did!!

Some models need a little hex wrench to remove the set screw that holds the handle on. Other models just use a Phillips screw, so the hex wrench isn't needed. See my video where I remove the set screw with a hex wrench: Delta Single Handle Shower Valve Leak Repair 13/14 Series: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-NdXwRUhfBHA.html

@@SparkyChannel It is a single handle , I can’t find the brand . I removed that little screw in the handle but haven’t been able to remove the top because I didn’t want it to break completely . I think the water comes from under the handle every time I do a load of laundry (the plumbing is all connected I guess, I’m the furthest thing from a plumber as you can prob tell). Thanks for the quick response, btw. I’m gonna try lubing it to see if the handle comes off a little easier . It’s most likely corroded , I bought the house and everything has been neglected so that’s probably why.

Wow. That is a filthy faucet on the inside. Mine is very similar except the piece below the handle barely has any of a flat for an adjustable wrench to grip. It is tight so there must be corrosion or other matter in or around the thread ring. For the high price that I pay for my city supplied water it should come out as pure water. Anyways, I have tried PB Blaster and such but it just won't break free. The faucet chrome finish is perfect and I want to avoid marring it with a channel lock pliers. Any suggestions? Oh, by the way I called Delta weeks ago and they were going to send out a repair kit for me. After I gave them all of my information, it never happened. I bought a repair kit off of Jeff Bezos who bought it from a guy in China instead.

This saved me! There are hundreds of leaky faucet videos out there, but yours is the only one that brought up that the handle can get stuck from excess build up. I thought mine was broken because the set screw cranked violently and came all the way out. Nope, it was just SUPER stuck. Some light and persistent taps and it finally came undone! I was a hair away from calling a plumber because I thought I had busted the whole thing. Thanks for the video, man! You probably saved me a few hundred bucks!

Very good explanation on how to repair a leaky faucet. One thing I would caution viewers on is to be careful not to score the ball seat with the screwdriver. I would use something like my Dremel tool with a brass wire brush attachment for that part of the job. I also thought it might be a good idea to put a little plumbers grease on the outside of the two rubber inserts before reinstalling them in the housing.

Trying to do mine and it took forever just to get the handle off. Couldn’t even budge the cap with a pipe wrench, probably gonna wind up replacing the whole thing. Sucks that my kitchen faucet doesn’t have its own cutoff.

how do you get the right repair kit? all i have is a leaky faucet, i know it is delta, looks like 470 series, it's probably 20 years old - do they have hundreds of variations, or is it enough to just say 470 series.?

I could not get the ball & cam assemble notch aligned in the cap assembly. I used a 3/4" to 1/2" Sharkbite to push down the ball & cam while I screwed on the cap assembly. Video was very helpful and simple to follow.

Just a heads up the newer faucets have a plastic cartridge. There should be a tag on the supply line with a model number and manufacture date. Was able to call and get a free replacement cartridge by calling Delta. Great concise no nonsense tutorial! Thank you!

@@SparkyChannel thanks. I ended up using the tip of a knife. Another thing to note: Don't over tight the nut. It will squish gasket on the cartridge and bleak. I hand tightened and then slightly bumped it tighter with a wrench.

There is no filter on this particular house. I do think some sort of filter is important if you live in a hard water area like I do.

@@SparkyChannel Bill, Funny story: The parts in my faucet look IDENTICAL to the one in your video except for a "974-012 DIVERTER DEFLECTOR" that fell out of the spout supply hole when I removed the spout assembly. OK. I already had the Danco parts before I saw your video and heard your recommendation to get only OEM parts free from Delta and I did not get the kit with the new ball as I had looked at it and it seemed and felt fine, no rough spots etc., still mirror bright and I believe I had replaced it a few years ago. Well I otherwise followed your great instruction to a T and after putting it back together (with out a DIVERTER DEFLECTOR, I don't think it makes a difference) it seemed fine except the handle had to be in a pretty specific spot for it not to drip. Well I lived with it for a couple weeks and decided I would follow your advice and call delta and get OEM parts. I called and if 20-25 years old like my faucet with no paperwork, they ask you to take a picture to send. I did and the rep could not ID my faucet and asked me to look at the backside and see if there were any markings. There were markings and they clearly said Price Pfister Classic! Dang! OK. Called Price Pfister (800-732-8238) and they do exactly the same as Delta and will send you the parts. Parts are on the way and I will still use your fine video to remind me exactly how to install. Thanks again, my boo boo had nothing to do with you! Reminder to all out there to not ASSUME just because the parts look identical, that they are. I used a mirror to see the back and get the actual OEM name. 👍👍

Hey Bill, Well I got the OEM parts from Price Pfister, but had other projects going so I put the install off. 9 months later it is still put off🤣 Seems that "the handle had to be in a pretty specific spot for it not to drip" was not as big a deal, as that spot became easy to find over time. Hope I can still find the parts from PP! When I do, I will still come back to your great video for another refresher, and I'm sure it will work perfectly. Thanks again! 👍👍@@SparkyChannel

Here is how the REAL repair went: Delta shipped me the wrong repair kit (NOT the ball one that I actually have). Local junky name brand store does NOT stock real Delta parts. Shutoff valve was seized open. Almost broke the pipe it is attached to. Almost stripped the cap assembly before I was able to take it off. The aerator does not ship in repair kit, but this is the most disgusting part and MUST be replaced (bacteria!!!).

Question on the plumbers grease. Since you're putting it inside the faucet, in the valve body where the spring and seat are that bring the hot and cold water in, isn't that water going to be contaminated with grease as it comes out of the faucet into your cup or pot?
