The two valves on the back of the cartridge have to be the right length, also if u put it on upside down it will give you hot water when you open valve, and cold fully open
I have a delta shower. My right knob turns the whole way like (360 like it’s stripped but it’s not) won’t even cut off the water at all. I have to cut it off by my middle knob. How can I fix this? Done changed the valve, knob, washer and everything?
I found the secret to these delta faucets. The seals don’t really leak it’s the tight tolerances when you rotate too far. So when it starts leaking just back it off a hair and it will stop.

The question is why does it only seem to last like 3 years? This is our second time replacing this part in the 7 years we've had the shower head. Is that normal?
They should last longer than that. One thing that can help keep it lubricated and not breaking down is to put a little petroleum jelly on the o-ring and seals when installing a new one. That makes it easy to seat properly and will reduce premature wear.
