Delta RP46074 is the model number for the proper shower cartridge that replaces that of the 13/14 or R10000 or Multichoice Universal series of valve housings. These series names don't actually mean anything. They are 100% arbitrary and are synonymous. They are just made up to sound fancy and confuse the consumer into buying shit they don't need because there is pretty much one Delta valve housing that everyone uses for single handle style shower valves and the only valve cartridge that will work is the OEM/Factory one. Do NOT fuck around with Danco or Mahua brands. They look identical to OEM model but usually don't work....They MIGHT work....but myself and so many other people have reported the same problems with them; that they either leak or only allow for lukewarm water temps.

9/2023 .... got my replacement valve from Home Depot easily. Good news for us. Replacement is quite easy. Other RU-vid videos explain it without all the apparent frustration Mr. Tom has.

Avoid the big box stores and the internet. Find a plumbing supply house in your area and take the old part in; you should not have any problems if you do that!! Good video

As of 09/07/2023, HomeDepot has the Delta cartridges in stock. And I think the PEX fittings just screw in and out. Also Delta has a lifetime warranty, and will send free cartridges.

seemingly small repair jobs are freaking nightmares. I installed one danco that worked, but broke another one trying to get it in the valve. went back to oem to replace. totally understand this guys frustration and mood.

I replace 2 danco cartridge and still leaks I was so frustrated and about to give up and just called a plumer. Than I came across your Video and went to lowes and got the delta Part. It stop the stupid leaks. Thank you so much, you save many people headachs and time.

I don't understand what the "disc" is before the temperature setting. On it it states" warning reinstall disc after setting rotational limit stop". It doesn't adjust, it only pops off. What is it's purpose?

The number of people who do not know that Delta offers a lifetime warranty on the cartridges amazes me. You call Delta, tell them what model you have. If you don’t know the model, you can text them pictures, and they will identify the model for you. On my Delta monitor 1700. I took a picture underneath the handle and both the model and the model number were on the chrome. You saved yourself anywhere from $50-$70. If you do it yourself or if you call a plumber.

I bought one of those Danko cartridges because it matches the delta that came out. Delta discontinued theirs. They do this because it's under a lifetime warranty. If you contact them they will mail you a replacement for free. The problem with the Danko is the limiter adjustment teeth are not a tight fit and it pushes out under pressure. I just put some contact glue and problem solved. But I think you could just as easily put a wrap of Teflon tape as round the teeth or use some plastic from a bag so it will have a tight fit or go with some silicone. Something removable but will give you a tight fit. Oh, I forgot the Allen head screw head when screwed all the way in wedges out the limiter so you need back it out at least one turn or add a bushing spacer.

John, can you make a video on this? :D. I wish I really understood your instructions. I know the teeth on the cartridge but that's it. :D If I follow correctly, as I could tell on my cartridge, the teeth slide out. I guess I need to put Teflon tape on it so that it stays together?

@@malice41414 actually you might not need the glue at all if you use the hex head screw of the old original cartridge that keeps the limiter end piece in place. The screw head in the danko is not the same as the original.

If it just dripping, it is A LOT cheaper and somewhat simple to just replace the seats. The cartridge comes apart by turning counterclockwise I believe? Its easy. Set of OEM delta seats and springs are 5-6 bucks compared to like 60-70 for an entire cartridge. If Its leaking from the handle or you cant stop the drip with new seats then you may have to replace the entire thing but it is rarely necessary.

I thought it was me. I tried to do it myself because times are hard and I can't afford a plumber. I bought the Danco and it's leaking. I bought it from Lowes last week, I don't know if I can return it as defective and buy the one you suggested. Fingers crossed.

I learned a similar lesson, also the hard way. Always use Delta don't try out these other cheap Chinese plumbing companies. It is well worth the extra money for something that will work

My problem is I have almost no hot water pressure. Plenty of flow on “cold” but almost nothing when turned to “hot”. I replaced cartridge w aftermarket and a year later ( it’s a seasonal camp that I blow out w air in fall) it’s even worse now. Will an OEM cartridge solve this, or do I need to take the damn cartridge out every fall and store it indoors for winter? My other faucets work fine so it’s definitely a shower valve issue

Delta showers pre 2006 take one type of cartridge, those later take this one. Be sure you get the right one.

Legitimately sad that deep parameter of an O-ring makes the product completely uses if you buy the cheaper one! Guess that’s what R&D does the cost of product! At least it worked! Good fucking info, I am in the middle of a full bathroom remodel and I chose the Delta Multi-choice valve, but I have had nothing but trouble finding a cartridge for it. It pisses me off that they sell this shit and don't give you any info on what to use with it. I wish I knew of another brand that had common parts, I would go with it.

Or you could not waste the money on a new cartridge and just buy the spring seal kit for $4 and fix the real problem. The problem with Deltas is the springs/seals wear out over time causing the leaking. Very easy to replace the two springs and two seals that go with them. Why spend upwards of $50 or whatever on a new cartridge when you can spend $4 and fix the real problem.

Don’t pour new wine into old wineskins…I bought the Delta seal/spring kit (now $9) for my leaky faucet. Just my luck, the previous owner installed a Danko cartridge and the leak only got worse. Had to run back out to my local Ace Hardware and drop another $55 for the OEM to resolve the issue…
