💥 *UPDATE 2.02.2023:* A new benefit called *TakeOff15* has been added, allowing you to take 15% off when you book Award Travel with miles on Delta flights via delta.com or the Fly Delta app.
See. This is where a lot of people and I shift opinions. I do the math like this. 2x plus the 1% for hitting ten grand in a year means average usage is 3.2% for $99 a year. Others say better earnings for Gold card itself. Yes 4x is better but $250 annual fee v/s $99 annual fee. Will your spending offset earnings potential? Everyone spends different. I get it. But even 1 cent per SkyMile would be floor of 2% and 3% in target categories, if you hit the $10,000 spend. That doesn't even count If you only fly once a year that's $60 checked bag fees waived. Also doesn't factor in American Express offers potential. As long as this card doesn't change I will always say it is an under rated card by a lot of people. I get the versatility of the MRP more flexible currency. Meh lol can't help it. I even renewed it with the Delta Platinum Business. Then along came a Delta specific offer to pay like 3 months of Hulu package lol so $13 statement credit for 3 months plus Paramount Plus $5 for months. Easily offset a lot of that $99. And it's only May.
I got this card in March and got insane SUB!! $400 statement credit (after making ANY delta purchase) AND 50,000 miles when spending $2000. I got this offer at checkout when I was booking a flight
Perfect timing, I was just approved for this card. I already had a skymiles account with a nice balance, will those miles merge or remain separate? Lastly, since I have the Platinum card, I will continue to purchase my flights to earn 5x the points. Thanks again Mark!
Congrats Janice! If you put your Delta SkyMiles number on the application, then all the miles will go to the same account. If you didn't put that # on the application, then they'll be separate.
I'm kind of new to this but, I got an Amex gold delta card to basically replace my Barclays 0 fee JetBlue card. JetBlue doesn't do many direct flights out of CLE and although Delta isn't a hub , Detroit is and is a 54 minute flight. What's your thoughts on pairing this with Chase preferred card because I don't care about the hotel chain as much as the airline . Amex gold at 250 would leave me at $450 per year but Chase Preferred would leave me at $245 and I could use points on more hotels chains or even United / JetBlue if I a wanted a direct flight.
Only you can determine what works best for you. As long as the setup gives you the rewards & benefits you personally want / value, then it can make sense.
Hi, Mark! One thing that stopped me from applying was when I asked Amex if using this card to book is required for the benefits (checked bags free, priority boarding) and they said yes. If using the card isn’t required, then I’m going to apply.
Hi Youjian - you don't need to pay for your ticket via the Delta SkyMiles Gold Card in order to use the baggage / boarding benefits ✌️ Just make sure your SkyMiles # is on the reservation.
I stopped in the middle of the video to check my status… I still need $1,256 by June 6th to obtain my 70k miles 😭 hey thanks for reminding me! seriously almost lost out!
Appreciate the video Mark, as always! I’m currently on the hunt for an airline card so I’m hunting for information. Any chance you’ll cover United at some point? Thanks for all you do!
Hey Sean - I definitely plan on doing more United cards at some point 😃✈️ Meanwhile, I already did an in-depth review of the United Quest Card about a year ago. Here's the link! 🎬 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kReWhGB_zcc.html
I got an email for 75k skymiles for the Gold and 80k for the Platinum. I got the Gold. Really only got it for the 75k skymiles because I use the my Amex Platinum to book travel. And if I'm traveling on a budget, I'll book flights on Expedia, trivago, etc... with my Amex Green card
Let me get this straight, if I have this card, but use my Amex gold card and purchase in Amex travel, as long as I put my skymiles number I get early boarding and checked bag free?
This was great. My husband just got it. But I honestly don’t think it was worth it. We don’t always fly with delta. Do u have a video or guidance on choices for people who fly different airlines , I want to earn cash back for every day things like gas and groceries. I am so new to this I don’t even know what iam looking for.
Starter card for young adults living near a Delta hub airport. Boston, NY, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Detroit, Los Angeles, or Seattle. Maybe add a flat 2% credit card. Citi Double cash, SoFi, Paypal, or Fidelity Rewards.
@@akin242002 yep even two flights a year the checked bags will pay for itself plus the annual fee doesn’t kick in until the second year which means it’s a free card for the first 24 months
I was wondering if you have two companion certificates on your account and I have a family of four can I buy mine and use one for my wife and buy another for my daughter and use it for my other daughter? X 回
I cannot confirm myself as I haven't done this. However, according to others, it looks like you'll have to do multiple reservations. Here's a link to a discussion on reddit: www.reddit.com/r/delta/comments/wcf4t5/multiple_companion_certs_on_one_reservation/
Yes, but you'll want to wait 1 full year before doing so. If you do so too early, Amex could take the welcome bonus back & freeze / close your account (or suspend you entirely).
Thanks for the video! I am just entering the world of credit cards and I am a tad overwhelmed by all the options. So this would be my first credit card, the issue is I have no credit history and am international. I have done research and I do like the benefits of this card as I do fly delta but im not sure if ill get accepted. Are there other cards that you recommend that I should apply for to start my credit journey. I will fly multiple times within the next couple years so maybe a card I can scale it from my first card?
Hey Mark have you ever been in Amex pop-up jail? I was in it a couple months ago when applying for the Hilton Honors Surpass, but haven't reapplied since
Hey Mark, planning on traveling a lot more and want to stop using my debit card for everything. What is the best card in general to rack up miles quickly? Thanks for the help!
Hi Ricardo - there is no best general card for everyone. Here's a link to another video you may find helpful: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LWVjzwIRkK0.html
Nope. If you don't have one, then one will be created. However, I personally like to sign up for the loyalty program first and then put my number on the application.
I honestly just got it for the Delta points sign-up bonus...have the non-Delta Platinum and Gold that get better benefits for the rest of my purchases, etc. 70k miles with no annual fee plus will get the extra $100 credit; can't complain.
Depends on the route you plan & the airline(s) you use within the SkyTeam alliance. It could help, it could not. I recommend doing the research first about how to fly to London from your current location using miles. Plenty of travel-focused blogs out there that can give suggestions on which miles can be most useful. Then once the planning is done, get the card(s) you need to make the trip happen.
If you have an ITIN, you might be able to get it. Here's a link to more info that you might find helpful: www.experian.com/blogs/ask-experian/can-non-us-citizens-get-a-credit-card/
Great vid Mark! Perfect timing as my Hot Wife just got a 50k offer, 2k spend in 3 months, $200 credit on the Delta flight we booked and AF waived the first year. My wife had credit issues and got turned down a few years ago. I added her as an AU to my AMEX Plat last year to improve her standing with AMEX and I believe that helped. I also have the Delta gold. Therefore, I can transfer MR points 1 to 1 to my Delta Sky miles. Thanks to your video on Rakuten late last year I jumped on board. Now I'm racking up MR points to my AMEX Plat account 😎
question on the "1st checked bag free" benefit. You made the reservation on your account but you are not flying with the people on the itinerary. Will it still trigger the benefit?
@@MarkReese I see. So even if you made the reservation you still need to be traveling with everyone. Ok, That clear things up. Thank you. Because i am sure this will only work with the main user and not with the authorized users.
@@wilfredopesquerajr.3252 - Correct. AUs cannot benefit either. Here are the terms: _"Benefit is limited to Basic Card Members (not Additional Card Members) with the Delta SkyMiles® Gold, Delta SkyMiles® Platinum or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Cards. Reservation must include the Basic Card Member's SkyMiles number. Fee waiver also available for passengers traveling in the same reservation as the Basic Card Member. Maximum nine waivers per reservation. Waiver is only for normal bag fee, if any, for the first checked bag that is not overweight and not oversize under Delta's applicable rules as set forth in Delta's contract of carriage. Additional checked bags will be subject to the applicable baggage fees as outlined by Delta's rules and the purchased fare as set forth in Delta's contract of carriage. The first checked bag fee waiver will only be applied on flight segments which originate on a Delta or Delta Connection® carrier when you check-in with Delta for both a Delta marketed and Delta operated flight. Codeshare flights are not eligible. New Card Members and Card Members upgrading from another Delta SkyMiles Card product will be eligible for the checked baggage fee waiver benefit after receiving their Card from American Express. Offer terms and conditions subject to change. Additional terms, conditions and restrictions may apply."_
@@kyrophantomproductions8978 - Probably not worth it. Also likely difficult to get as your 1st card if you don't have prior credit history. Consider a student card if you're in school or a secured card if not. Gotta start the journey first before getting into higher-value rewards cards.
Hi Gian - only you can answer that 😄✈️ It likely won't make sense to get the Delta SkyMiles Gold Card to earn miles. However, it could make sense for the Delta-specific benefits. Look them over. If you value them & want them, then the card can make sense. If you don't care about them, then pass.
Hello Gian, IMHO, flying 4-6x year with Amex Gold might be a better value than this card, have you reached Silver Medallion yet? If so, stick with Amex Gold it also has more and higher everyday spend multipliers. I’m in a similar boat with the only difference in having an Amex Platinum. Both cards offer more potential Skymiles than the delta cards. I’ve flown my way into Silver Medallion status without a Delta credit card, so I already get free checked bags plus free available upgrades. I am considering this card or the Delta Platinum card for the MQD waiver. I have a lot of work expenses that could help me reach that spend amount. Since delta is carrying over MQMs from previous year it’s really easy to reach Gold or even Diamond status if you fly often.
I actually did apply for this card today since they boosted the bonus to 75K Sky Miles. I got rejected. When I tried to find out, a message popped up saying the site was down and to check later. Very odd since my scores are high 700's and low 800s
@@MarkReese I called to get reconsideration. I just bought a new car in December and the dealership shopped the loan to 4 banks...thus 4 inquiries now appear. They said they will not look at it as 1 inquiry and cant reverse their decision. So thats a dead end now. Since I have Chases Freedom Flex and Freedom Unlimited and Citi's Custom Cash and Double Cash, Im looking at the Sapphire Preferred or Citi Premier. Just trying to decide which ecosystem to buy fully into. Hope this helps others in the channel.
@@MarkReese I applied for the Chase Sapphire Preferred to go along with my Freedom Unlimited and Freedom Flex as I saw I was preapproved for it. Answered 3 questions and BAM!!! Approved!!
I Got The Card In Feb With 80k bonus miles after spending $2k in 3 months and also a $200 statement credit. How would you rate this bonus offer on a scale of 0-10 (SPECIFICALLY FOR THIS CARD) ? and in general for airline cards? Thank You So Much Really Love Your Content ❤️
@@rizwankingkhan18 - Congrats on the approval & offer, Rizwan! 😃 Receiving an 80K mile bonus + $200 statement credit on a card with a $99 annual fee sounds like a 10/10 offer to me!
Hey Mark, I know you’re not obligated to respond truthfully but I’ve heard some interesting information from a friend that has a relative that works as an executive with Amex. He says that you are shilling these credit cards because you receive generous kickbacks and other benefits from Amex. If true can you please describe these benefits? Thank you!
If people choose to use the links I provide in the video descriptions, I may earn a referral / affiliate commission if they get approved. There aren't any other benefits besides income.
If I don’t care about airline status, and I have the AMEX Gold Card, wouldn’t it be best to just use Amex gold when I make any Delta purchases, given that it seems I would earn MR points, (which I can transfer to Delta anyway) at a higher rate than I can with the airline credit card?
Thanks for the video man. I have the AMEX platinum which gets better points - but we recently moved from the West Coast to Connecticut and LaGuardia or JFK will be my primary airports and even though I have status with American, it seems like Delta may be the airline that I’ll be using more often. But the one thing I couldn’t find it any other video/article was if I had to use the card when paying to get the benefits of it and thankfully from your video I got the answer that I don’t. It just has to be associated with my account number. So good! Thanks man, Jeff.
Can the sign up bonus be used as a statement credit? As in to pay whatever balance is on the card? Just signed up for those one and currently 70,000 after spending $2k in first 3 months. Or can that only be used towards Delta purchases?
