I have the feeling Dess is dead, but alive in the dark world. You're gonna seal the forest fountain, and where you thought Dess was... only her sweater. Dusty, powdery but most of it blown away.
To be "multilevel theoretical specific" on this comment: - deep within a search in the forest. - find a entryway to the banker's backrooms - to which the first dark fountain consumed Dess.
I think it's a metaphor to how reliant noelle was on Dess. That even when dess has gone missing, Noelle got lost as well... lost in her thoughts, unable to figure out what to do next, until we, the player take advantage of her.
@The Lonely Proto in toby's blog post, he's said that him and the team have gotten more than a chapters worth of content done in a year, and there's 3 chapters to complete, so it'll most likely be at *least* a year til it's done, but i'd still be *extremely* happy to be proven wrong :)
@@misshooman do keep in mind that there was apparently some things that took some time to do in that year if i remember right, also the spamton stuff probably took some time out of development. i do think another year may be a little too hopeful, but a year and a half feels more right
Statistically it’ll probably be done by early to mid 2023 but Toby likes to release stuff in fall so maybe a fall 2023 release????? Again I would love to be proven wrong so we can see our beloved human, monster, and fluffy boy again!
something i really really love about deltarune is this whole theming of lost and hidden game content. the idea of finding something that you feel like you weren't supposed to see is everywhere in this game. the fact that this is the only webpage from the sweepstakes that doesn't have a hyperlink to it, the black background with the spotlight on a red guitar, and this strange sounding rendition of a song you already know, it all just adds together so well i loved it when people first discovered the weird route in chapter 2. it really did feel like an old videogame rumour for a little while, because it was such a crazy and outlandish thing that people refused to believe it. i refused to believe it too, until i saw it myself and it caught me so offguard
There are a few possibilities for dess, those being; 1. She died. 2. Dess got evicted out of reality. Both are interesting (Though if I have to pick the first scenario is the most interesting. since we haven't got an answer to what would happen if a dead person came in contact with a a dark fountain)
Imagine her corpse/dust is reanimated by a random dark fountain as a darkner, being found by the gang and had a fun adventure together. And right after the fountain is sealed by the soul, Dess is nowhere to be found yet again.
@@iTrapa this sounds dark af and I'm not ashamed to say that I was about to reply with the same exact idea about the fact that toby will go full dark mode on us and just show us a corpse 😭
There's something about the way the song sounds on guitar that makes it seem older, more mature. It grounds the mystery of Dess in a way that hasn't been done before. For that reason, I think this is the saddest song to come out of Deltarune so far. The idea of missing her sister in a town that seems like it wants to forget all about it.... I think everyone before found it easy to ignore her because, for all we know, she could be dead. The idea of finding her was out of the picture. But "find her" being the title of this song, it makes me think that she's plenty alive. Perhaps in a dark world, or perhaps somewhere else. Scared, alone...
In the files someone say “Where… Where am I? Hello…? Anyone…? is… is anybody out there…? Someone!? Anyone!? Can anyone hear me!? … it’s dark. it’s so dark here. Someone, Anyone, if you can hear me… Say something… please…”
In chapter 2 more was added “No one can hear me, can they? … I guess not. To be honest, I’m not even sure I can hear myself. It’s so quiet here…and yet, sometimes, I swear I hear something… Something like… Scratching?”
Why does this make me feel all choked up inside? We have never seen this character, heck, we know nothing about them at all. But this song... it brings this strange sadness I can never place and I don't know why. It seems so hopeful yet at the same time completely devoid of any hope at all. It's strange. And it's sad. Please Toby Fox, give us a happy ending.
Probably because with Dess being missing, shes shrouded in so much mystery of her whereabouts, no one knows where to start with finding her... I feel the same way you do. I want to find Dess, we all do.
You know how in the game files, theres text? Oneof them mentions how whoever it is hears scratching every once in a while. I'd like to believe this is Dess, as would I'd imagine so many other people. In Chapter 2, remember how we see Snowy and Monster Kid by the bunker at the south of Hometown? What if they've been going over there for quite some time now, trying to open it up, but have failed? That'd explain scratching noises.
@Loi Valdes Thats fair. After all, we don't have very much to go off of. And I completely agreee with you on Azzy and Dess being important at some point. I just hope Dess is found eventually and not just gone for good.
THERE IS NO [[Hyperlink Blocked]] ANYWHERE NEAR HERE, ARE YOU [[eating a little too much fruitcake XP]]??? SHE IS [[Totally fine]] DON'T LOOK AT MY [[Emails]]
The titles of the two tracks "Lost Girl" and "Findher" strongly imply that Dess' disappearance is not simply just because she's dead, but because she's gone missing, leaving her sister right here in grief.
I’m going to assume the vessel we created at the beginning of Ch.1, Kris’ actual soul, and Dess being gone are all connected somehow. All supposedly lost, but perhaps are just waiting to be found?
oh, god. we're gonna go into the holiday home in the light world in chapter 3. and there the red guitar will be, in december's empty room, kept the same after all these years.
My theory is that Dess is the gaster of deltarune, shattered across time and space. This can be seen in the game code, dess is the goner trapped in the files. And the crystals we earn by defeating spantom and jevil and future bosses are the way to bring her back. Remember when looking through the crystals showed you how things were before? Like when you use a crystal in cyberworld it shows you the library and when you use it in light world it shows suzie giving you a cold look but when you take the crystal away she is smiling. Maybe collecting all 7 crystals gives you the hability to *restore* anything, to make anything go back to whatever it was before, and using it on Dess could save her
My theory is that Dess was adopted by Gaster to do Gonet shenanigans, but at the end when we fight the knight, it’s actually Dess needing freedom so we use the power of friendship with the help of a few shadow crystals to pulverize Gaster and then Dess turns into Sans and gives us a bad time
You ever wondered what happens to a lightener not near the fountain when it's sealed? The collapse of the pocket dimension is more unstable the further from the locus you are, if you aren't careful you might just get trapped as the bounds between light and dark reform... without you being in either one of them.
“Where… Where am I? Hello…? Anyone…? is… is anybody out there…? Someone!? Anyone!? Can anyone hear me!? … it’s dark. it’s so dark here. Someone, Anyone, if you can hear me… Say something… please…”
It's not that I know about it (for now) but I feel that since she was little she entered the darkworld by mistake, assuming that she was like that at some point that we enter she will surely change a lot, If she spent years in the darkworld, she would probably end up attacking us by not recognizing us or if she is being manipulated by something or someone.
i will say what could have happened for Dess...One night, when the group (Asriel,Kris,Dess and Noelle) where exploring the forest near the graveyard...They were togheter and heard a noise, Dess went to check, she went behind a tree and never reaped, they tried searching for her..... *BUT NOBODY CAME*
What I think would be really cool but also super messed up is that dess isn’t alive but in the town. The bunker. She ran away or something idk and hid in there. She later died. But noelle speaks to her not spiritually but as an inner voice. later in the endgame of Deltarune we open the bunker. To find her corpse laying at the entrance. Almost Waiting for everybody to find her.
@@sythem true ig but this is a alt reality and they aren’t said to be monsters could also be with the seal spell thing in undertale that the humans did to them
@@sythem toby has said the rules of the deltarune and undertale universe are different, we don't know if monsters still turn to dust when they die in this universe
I really hope Dess is safe, honestly she seemed like such a good older sister to Noelle, but if she went missing when Noelle was especially young, and Noelle is implied for now be in highschool, the chances of her survival are slim… I really hope we get an end to this storyline
we're only on chapter 2 of 7 and her storyline just started, it's very likely we'll find her, find out where she is, or at least get very strong hints as to her whereabouts.
I've been thinking, and maybe, what if there is a dark source that we don't know about yet and Dess is there? I don't know, but the doors in the forest... It's like there's a dark world there.
GUYS. This track is named “Find Her”, and Who are We trying to find? DESS. The track “Lost Girl” literally sounds the exact same like this (except that this one is a guitar remix) and that maybe the Tracks are trying to trll us something, “Find her” “Lost Girl”. Also Lost girl is probably dess’s theme and that she isnt dead, she’s ALIVE. Somewhere at the light world…Missing. We have to “Find her”. The “Lost Girl”.
* A missing persons poster sits at your feet. You pick it up. * It reads as follows... * “December “Dess” Holiday.” * *”Have you seen this girl?”* * “Missing since”... * ...the date is faded beyond recognition. * There’s a photo, but it, too, is hard to make out. * _The figure vaguely resembles Noelle..._
@@billybobjoephilcorncobtiptopge it says find her, idk maybe its find her dead body but i think its more so to find her alive physically somewhere, theres also the song in chapter 2 called lost girl that a lot of people automatically assume is about noelle but it could also be about dess. just a theory tho :)
alright so here’s my breakdown of the lore so far: noelle has/had a sister named december holiday who went missing/died (as she is absent in both chapters) but is probably missing because she does not have a grave. in the games code we can see SOMETHING in it saying that they’re scared, and they hear scratching. what this means? i dunno.
it is somewhat off-tune. probably pitched up or down by a bit. i tried to listen to this song while playing it on the piano, and there was a whole bunch of dissonance when i did (that does not happen with the normal version of Lost Girl btw). toby fox likes to do that with some of his songs, and it does make them feel a bit more unsettling sometimes
Does ANYONE remember the unused text in chapter 1 of deltarune? The "Where am i?" That COULD be dess lost somewhere. This could also mean that dess is a goner lost somewhere in the files.
Crazy theory: Dess is actually missing and maybe that's the reason Asgore isn't a cop and Toriel divorced him, plus Lost Girl would reference this, and Girl Next Door would make reference to Dess being Kris's neighbor or was, or something like that
Alright, so I'm the kind of guy who loves making guesses on how the story is going to go and won't care if I'm wrong. Having said that, allow me to tell the story of how I think Deltarune is gonna go. An abandoned facility left in darkness, abandoned by The Knight. Kris wanders through, no clue where Susie or Ralsei have gone, but he knows Noelle is right by his side trusting his judgment. "I don't like this place." Then, a faint scream. "DESS! THAT WAS HER!" Noelle dashes off. Follow Do not Kris chases after Noelle, then... A festive sweater, seemingly glitching apart as if life were a game, coated in dust... "WELL." "WELL." "WELL." "WHAT HAVE WE HERE" "AW, A POOR SOUL LOST" "HAVE YOU RUN OUT OF TEARS?" Noelle looks blank. You can't see her face on her sprite. Her text box appears, her hair over her eyes. Suddenly a manic grin. Note, this is in the pacifist route. Everyone was spared, so far the Castle Town is full. Snowgrave has NOT been done. You hear slight chiming, and suddenly you are surrounded by white. Kris backs up. One step at a time, when... Noelle uses Snowgrave. The boss is encased in ice. When... _Crack_ _Crack_ _SHATTER_ "THE LIGHT" "ITS RUNNING LOW." "THE SHADOWS HAVE BEGUN TO GROW." "EVERYTHING FEELS LIKE FANTASY" "THE SHADOWS ARE CUTTING MY BODY" "IT BURNS" "TO ME, YOU ARE VERY" "VERY" "I N T E R E S T I N G" "THERE IS A LIGHT" "IN YOUR SOUL, BLUE MAN." "SHRINKING IN THE COLD" "AND I PLAN TO-" "QUIET, QUIET!" "YEAH, I'M TIRED OF HEARING YOUR [F-] [FIFTY PERCENT OFF] SPEECH!" "WE MUST CAUSE CHAOS, CHAOS!" "WE HAVE A CHOICE, KID." "TAKE OUT THAT [YOU MONSTER]" "OR STOP YOUR [HOCHI MAMA]!" "I AM FREEZING, FREEZING! IT'S SO COLD, SO COLD!" "WE'RE RUNNING OUT OF OPTIONS, KRIS. WE- [HOLY CUNGADERO]" Kris is attacked by the Ice Shock. "[HOLY MOTHER OF JOKER, BATMAN] THAT WAS COLD!" "I AM FREEZING, FREEZING! SO COLD, SO COLD!" "Q U I E T!" "T H I S" "I S" "T H E" "E N D" A short fight with the boss begins... Only to be destroyed with one hit from you. Then... You have to fight Noelle as she clutches the sweater, all the while a Vs. Susie-like version of this song to fit a broken Noelle plays. She also creates Dess in Ice form, with a gibberish name that when decoded forms D E C E M B E R H O L I D A Y.
I dunno if anyone pointed it out, or maybe I'm just bad at music, but, if you try singing the "Don't Forget" song, "The promise in our hearts." part sounds kind of similar.
I don't want to go into too many far-fetched theories, but... Is she the one playing the guitar, and is the picture her guitar? (I know it doesn't add anything to the story, but I'm just saying).
that's what people generally think as well, considering this is a remix of Lost Girl, which is connected to Noelle. and, going into far-fetched theories... (this is mostly just a dump of some stuff i found while digging around the community for anything that could potentially relate to Dess) some have also theorized that the ending credits for chapter 1 and 2 (Don't Forget and Until Next Time) are Dess singing them, behind the voice of Laura Shigihara. possibly singing to Noelle. another theory is that it's Dess speaking to us through the game files, as whoever is calling out implies fear and wanting to get out of there and that its so dark, and in chapter 2 they mention something they hear like "scratching". a related point i've seen in the community is that it's also Dess trying to speak to us through Spamton in his shop, when his eyes turn into static and the dialogue says "... can anyone hear me? Help..." ... very interesting that this happens, considering this is brought up when we pick the talk option "Fear", though this could be completely unrelated. worth to mention, though. the scratching could also possibly be related to the bunker, considering MK and Snowy are both by the bunker's doors at the end of ch2, could they possibly have been scratching it somehow trying to hopelessly get it to open? bunker theory aside, if it is Dess talking to us in the game files, and the former theory is also true, that would mean Dess is singing to Noelle literally from the dark, as the line "I'm with you in the dark" says. and considering this remix's title is Find Her, i could see these theories making sense.
