A dinosaur zord from the future for our sixth ranger - who is the second red ranger...Bandai's Deluxe Q-Rex Megazord definitely had an interesting starting point. They ran with it - somewhat literally - and made a toy that surpasses everything from the previous 9 years in electronic standards.
I think Quantasaurus Megazord is the highest technical achievement from the entire Power Rangers francise. It sort've bombed and that's why we've never had another one like it, but it exists as a timeless classic; set in the future but originating from our past.

At the moment whether you want 2000 DX V-Rex from Mirai Sentai Timeranger, or the 2001 Deluxe Quantasaurus Rex Megazord from Power Rangers Time Force, you'll need to look online or at cons for either a 2nd hand or (expensive) mint in box version. Good luck!

Fun fact: This toy was infamous here in the UK, not only was it condemned by parents for its over £80 price tag but was rated 1-2 stars on many toyshop sites for its poor QC. Reports include the Q-Rex head getting stuck during Transformation (The old VHS video that came with this even had to tell how to fix this) to electronics just randomly packing up after only a few days. The toy was a complete nightmare for many and stressed lots of parents and kids at Christmas. I had to go through 3 copies of the toy myself before getting one that did not suffer from the reported QC'S (My first one kept getting stuck even with doing the fix shown on the VHS, my second one packed up only after a day and my 3rd was thankfully ok). In the end, I ended up enjoying the smaller one that you transform yourself a lot more as it looked more screen-accurate to the show in Megazord mode.

This is a really cool toy, but I still wish they had made a non-electronic Deluxe version of the Q Rex with more posing ability. I remember being disappointed with it as a child when I got this because it felt more like a gimmick than an entry into the Megazord line. But the design of this thing is still pretty cool, and all the features it has are pretty fun.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. It's a cool idea, it fits the theme perfectly...but as a Power Rangers toy, it's just not as fun as it thinks it is

In the late 80s early 90s in the US there was a show called "Quantum Leap". It was about a man traveling in time to put right what had gone wrong. They could have got the name from there.

Man, this brings back memories. This was the first megazord my parents would buy me, and it blew me away initially with all its electronics. But too bad it wasn't actually feasible to really play with your hands.

It's a nice present! Yeah I didn't explicitly say this in the review but it feels like you can't (or shouldn't) transform it yourself, like you'd probably break the motors and stress the plastic. It's weird having a PR Megazord toy you have to remind yourself NOT to play with 🥴

I personally never enjoyed motorized zords. My favorite part of Zords is how they transform and combine with each-other, and motorized zords tend to be bricks with not much you can do with it outside of the motor functions.

Exactly why I didn't like this toy. The point of the transformation is that you transform it yourself and not the toy by itself, that's why this toy in my opinion is boring.

Never noticed before, but this technically isn't a Tyrannosaur. Like the original Dinozord piloted by Jason, the base model appears to actually be an Allosaur: note the longer arms and three-digit hands.

Not only does this (Mega)Zord stand out amongst the rest of its toy line, but across the entire line of Power Rangers / Super Sentai as a whole. Even if it seems dated nowadays, there's no denying that the makers did their best to give a decent and accurate experience in reenacting every moment with this fantastic, mechanic, metallic, jurassic piece of weaponry as if you were the Quantum Ranger / TimeFire himself. (If you're a fan of remote controlled electronic toys that is :P ) I remember being quite impressed with the design in both the show and as a toy, as it was unlike anything we've seen in this season up till then. And though it isn't perfect in terms of mobility and electronics, it's still an amazing and unique piece of work for fans and collectors.

The V-rex/Q-rex is my all-time favourite zord design so this gets props for being the best toy incarnation. I just wish they released a non-electronic version with a decent amount of die-cast. I'm in awe at the ZenkaiJyu Oh but I just can't bring myself around to the cheap plastic feel the modern toys have. I'd be very tempted to rebuy all my DX as Mini Pla if this thing ever saw a release.

i am relieved (yet also saddened) to hear that i wasn't the only one who suffered when finally getting this behemoth once upon a time during a birthday/christmas day. For one it was too big to play with for me and i prefered transforming him myself, and was much happier with the smaller transformable q-rex megazord.

"Why wouldn't you want the electronic version?" Ironically, for exactly the reasons you hyped up. I like to transform my toys myself. If it's automated that takes the fun out of it. I was (and am) very hands-on, not as drawn by lights and sounds. That's why I liked the megazords more than the roleplay toys, and why I am a lifelong fan of Transformers. Continuing on, I do see you touched on that. One thing I really appreciate about your reviews of these, which I have never seen before, is that you don't look at them in a vacuum. You analyze the function and style of each megazord within the line and within the broader franchise. I have always been narrow-minded in that regard, but you manage to point out themes and commonalities, what outside competition there may have been that affected the design of a megazord or trends in the toy market. Whether a function was replicated anywhere else and why. I had never really made the connection between this and MagiLegend (I think they called it the Manticore Megazord here) as far as auto-transforming. Also, those feel much further apart in my brain, even though they were only really separated by 5 years. As always, good review. I look forward to learning more about Providus, as the lone zord that didn't make it stateside.

Thanks Arthur So happy it's appreciated, and yes you got it, I think it's super interesting to consider where they fall in the timeline and what makes them a 'first' for the line. Providus/Transwarp is a bit of a 'retro-feel' disappointment in an otherwise ambitious line but the launch feature and playset makes up for it.

I have the non-DX Q-rex that came with the Quantum Ranger figure. It's actually not bad. I went with that version instead of the large DX due to my limited shelf space. The figure is fully transformable, except for a little bit of parts forming for the Q-rex head. Both the left fist and the Gatling gun are launch able via a small hidden button in each arm. For me, the best thing is it's the same size as the original Dragonzord, Time Force Megazord, and even Zenkaiger's DX ZenKaijuOh.

On the bad remote, it looks like there is some corrosion on it. All you need to do to get it to work is to do a restore on it.

From some Googling, it looks like there was some sort of worldwide financial recession around 1999-2000 that may have affected sales of these figures. Can't say for sure though. Anyways, now that I see them put next to each other, I see a lot of the Q rex's dna in the new Dino Fury red Zord.

I remember getting this at the Toys R Us store in Holbrook, NY back in the summer of 2001, but I returned it because I was having trouble with the Quantum Morpher that came with it. I was 7 at that time.

I hated motorized PR toys as a kid. I remember getting the motorized tiger zord for Christmas one year, and being so disappointed when I gave it a try. I got the Tiger Zord a few months later for my birthday though. Along with Saba!

The non electronic one seems to be on par size wise with a zord builder megazord, so not a bad trade off. Good luck finding one with all the pieces though, I'm still looking for one!

Bummed that I had to throw mine away. The plastic on the arms rotating piece is very weak and subject to cracking so the weight over time caused it to collapse.

I was in 2nd grade when time force aired and i got this zord for Christmas, one of the coolest and best zords ever, even when the electronics started to go out it still was a great zord still have it by the way

This was probably not the intent, but it's design reminds me of Tristar Godzilla, which is fitting, cause it's the zord of an additional ranger, and the dragonzord was based on classic Godzilla.

That’s quite the ambitious looking toy. Looks like a kid would have a good time controlling it for a long while. Shame the remote control style hasn’t aged the best through the years. Do you think there’s a way to fix those issues? I feel like fixing them could get tricky. If there could be a modern remake of the Q-Rex it could have a remote control feature that might age better than the old style. And maybe have phone app control/compatibility. Not being able to handle the transformation definitely could disappoint some kids. Maybe they should have made a Deluxe sized non-electronic version too. Does that mean you’ll tackle the the Japanese exclusive zords? The lack of the Time Jet (AKA the primary weapon of the Megazord’s Mode Blue) and Transwarp zord was rather weird. Along with the missing Quantum Ranger minifigure. Plus I haven’t noticed much English speaking channels talk about those sets yet. Could be an interesting watch. Nicely done video overall.

As a kid I used to love the Q-rex in the show, but I had never seen the toy or knew about the remote control gimmick (I suspect that it was just never imported to Italy). Not knowing it was a reference to the toy, I always found it incredibly weird that the quantum ranger was the only ranger in all the seasons I had seen that didn't have a cockpit inside his own zord. Why would the people from the future design a megazord that way? The poor guy had to stand aroung on top of the megazord, or on top of a nearby building, just to see what the robot was doing, all while some giant monster was firing laser and destroying the city. Glaring safety issues there I tell you.

There being a real dinosaur with a similar name is almost certainly a coincidence. Considering in the original series the command to transform it is "Voice formation!" I'm going to say 100% that V stands for "voice" and the localization team made up something on their own.

I’ve always hated this figure due to it being very inaccurate from the rubber suit show version and the fact that it the design could work very well for an action figure due to all the articulation points that the suit had, I’ve always viewed it as a babies toy, just a bunch of electronic features slapped on just for the sake of having them, I’m hoping that we get a fully articulated more show/suit accurate version from either Super Minipla, Hasbro, or Super 7, in my opinion it’s the best Mecha/Zord in the whole franchise, and defiantly one of the most powerful, I’ve been a massive fan of it since I was little, the design is just really cool looking giving off a very menacing vibe, and to have it get the least accurate figures just really disappointed me because of just how amazing the show version is.

I've been completing my collection of every seasons zords, and time force is one of the last. This damn provider base will be the death of me cause I need that other set to get mode blues guns and the mini figs.

Damn it, finally went into storage to pull my old one out. Immediately when I turn it on, after changing the batteries, it gets stuck on the missile launcher and fires infinite missiles. Can't seem to fix it no matter what I do. The instructions don't mention this particular issue either to troubleshoot. Shame. T_T

i figured out my problem seeing as i just got mine secondhand i fiddled with it just keep taking the batteries out and put them back in its only getting power from the c batteries so fiddle with the AA's

Toys like this are the reason why Timeranger had such low sales. Timeranger had 4.2 billion yen sale. This is bad. The cost is too much on this.

This is the only toy I was never interested, idk the toy was not interesting enough and not being able to combine with the the other megazord kill it for me. Personally I think the time force megazord is much better. If I ever get this megazord, I would get the non electronic version, since the legs look awful in the motorise version.

The Quantum Ranger and his zord are among the many things I heavily dislike about Time Force. Both stand as sore thumbs in this season, the Quantum Ranger is basically a second Red Ranger and his zord is a dinosaur in a season that has nothing to do with dinosaurs. A dinosaur zord in a season that has futuristi jets for zords and it's piloted by a Red Ranger. Gee, whoever designed that must've felt quite nostalgic for the Red MMPR Ranger.
