These guys are legit Hip-Hop legends with serious old school cred within that community. They helped launch LL Cool J's career and are tight with Public Enemy, etc. Peak Beasties for me was Paul's Boutique, Check Your Head etc. late 80's, early 90's, (ie. experimental hip-hop with samples overflowing). You may want to hit So What'cha Want, Hey Ladies, Shake Your Rump, etc. Great party stuff for streams, no doubt. Cheers!

I think it’s safe to say that the Beastie Boys are the epitome of 90s style. They definitely made a significant impact in the 80s, but by the time the Check your Head and Ill Communication albums came out, they had evolved into this amazing blend of hip hop and rock (but not in a nu metal kind of way) with a very punk attitude thanks to their roots as a New York hardcore band before turning to rap. As another comment mentioned, So Whatcha Want would be a good next step - whether you can show it or not, you should watch the music video just for the pure 90s aesthetic of it all. It just might be the most 90s video ever.

@@mikethemotormouth Agreed, Beck is near the top of the list of artists that perfectly embody the 90s - both visually and sonically. All those songs you mentioned have been permanently etched into the gray matter of my brain thanks to watching the videos countless times on MTV.

One of the things Lex may not have noticed that was different is that the lyrics weren't filled with profanity and negativity like a lot of Hip-Hop, especially nowadays. After their debut album, they tried to "keep it clean" like they refer to in this song.

The Beastie Boys were the first hip hop / rap group to go number one. This happened in the '80s. I personally think Paul's Boutique Is their best album.

Anything off of Paul's Boutique would be a great choice, esp. Bouillabaisse, but 3 MCs, 1 DJ is a must first. That video and recording are amazing... all one long shot, live. Shows just how amazing BB & Mix Master Mike really were.

The Hook, sound. That sound is from the British show “Dr.Who”. He has a phone booth. That is a interstellar time machine. When the booth would travel through wormholes, it would make that sound.

I highly recommend going back and watching the video. The Beasties were always known for having some pretty creative and wacky videos, and this is definitely one of them. But the Sabotage video (directed by Spike Jonze) probably takes the cake.

That's what I've always loved about Beastie Boys, they started off more of a rock band with a hip hop influence from that older hip hop era when they first started, and adapted as the years went on and eventually ended up making their own unique sound

'Paul's Boutique' has so many solid hits. I've recommended it in comments before, but that is one of my favorite classic records ever. It is still a pinnacle of hip-hop sampling to this day (ty Dust Brothers) with beastie boys 3 degrees of styles on top. Beastie Boys are/were such a unique group. RIP MCA

In High School.. Class of '89.. Me and my buddy would beat box and rhyme like the Beasties, they were out rap idols in the day. Saw them in concert with Run DMC in B'ham AL and it was a dream come true for a rap fan in the 80's .

In case you didn't know their initials BB playing from their love of a band called Bad Brains who are an all black punk rock/hardcore and reggae band. The Beastie Boys actually started as a punk band and could actually play some instruments.
