Growing up herding cattle back in Wedza, Zimbabwe, singing along to this song from memory was often the only friend I had as rain soaked me in the pastures with an empty 50kg plastic Ammonium Nitrate fertilizer bag for a rain coat and the cows wouldn't stop grazing in the wet. 2021 and 28 years after, it’s my friend as I drive my way to work in the West Midlands, England....different surroundings, same joy to a song that has outlived its time. Great memories courtesy of the legendary Dembo. Translation is roughly like this: How can I escape from danger/evil Only through prayer can I live There is that one I planned to do evil to, That one that wronged me, I ask (to God) that he be allowed to live (freed). I am a sinner on this planet, Who covets and kills (working) Against even those that haven't done me any wrong, I ask that I live (be forgiven). Here is a newborn, Who cries from all the pain suffered, Turn around and behold him, I ask his life be spared too. I hereby confess my wrongs so I can live. Shall the Father come? Where is he? When(shall he come)? Shall the Father come to deliver us? When shall You(Father) come in the middle of this struggle? Where is our Father in amidst all this struggle? Is our Father there to deliver us?
Listening to this project of the late Dembo in my mansion in Venda limpopo, it reminds me of all my struggles in my most rural village Tshilivho, I'm so emotional listening to this hit
Music that soothe your heart and soul…. Song iyi was released before I was even born. I admit kuti musicians in my generation will never ever be able to come up with such good music. This is honestly a masterpiece
It is 2022,I'm in South Africa,KwaZulu Natal listening this amazing music without even understanding what does it mean, but wow what a song!I love you, brothers and sisters of Zimbabwe.
Ndingabude seiko mune zvakaipa, kunze kwekunamata ndiko kuti ndirarame... it meams How can i overcome sin, except through prayer thats the only way for me to survive
Southern Africa stands up and give applause to the Zim legend. I am a Motswana of Kalanga origin and still listen to the legendary music of Dembo. You cannot put a price on this piece of art. He was an Artist of note. R.I.P. The longest song he has, longer than Chitekete
His longest song is actually Zvaunoda Handizvigone which is over 16 minutes long. He was a musical genius, a unicorn and we are luck to have had him in our lifetime.
This song reminds me of my late mom. I remember how she used to sing and dance to this song in 1993, I get emotional even when typing this. Its my all time favourite 😭
I started listening to this song in a kombi and i was going to my new school as temporary teacher and the driver repeated it for about 3 times then i later ask for the name and since then its 15 years am listening to it. I can change phones but i make sure Mutadzi ngaaregererwe is in the phone. I play it usually driving. Dembo was great. I am lucky to see Macheso n Tongai
I lost my father 27 years ago and my mom a year after life has never been easy jus turned 30 this year and it’s jus me now against the world . Death is inevitable but may we never die young and poor.
This song reminds me of my late father, may your soul continue to rest in peace....He used to play this song when i was still young apa ndaisaida but as i grew older i began to love it...and it always reminds me of Him😢"vachauya here baba"😭@2024 im still here
2024 July 7: Listening with my wife m 44 she's 41 and we r reminiscing on the days our Dads would belt these tunes on WRS stereo systems and the Long distance chicken AVM buses would pound these all the way from Harare to Hwange all night 😂❤ vana Chawasarira; Tauya and Pioneer You just had to learn to love the tunes.
Sametimes I don't trust that Dembo is late , this song it touches my heart always when I switch on My phone ..... Tinokumbira kurarama your soul rest in peace Big Man I'm a Zambian.
My Granny used to tell me back then that this song was written inform of a prayer but I couldn't get it, now I'm grown up and I get the message clearly...RIP LEGEND
On my 1st time of really listening to the message of this song ,it felt as a prayer,it is really a deep prayer asking for forgiveness for all those negative emotions u feel for those who wronged you n asking for the Almighty to forgive n give life even to those who you despise(honest confessions of the darker side of human nature)...its deep
That guitar right there...will make you wanna go to Zim, just to be in a nation where a guitar is played with understanding and will make you cry or smile without being touched...Makadini...Maswera sei🇿🇦🇿🇼🇿🇦
how can i get my self out of sin ,... there's no other way except through prayer there comes others making me do bad things, and others being my enemies, lord i ask you to please save them. (by the way, im not Shona but thats what i hear)
these guys they sat down and composed music which lasts and carries great wisdom ...this song reminds me that no matter the problems i encounter in life i should pray ... most people my age do not find this type of music interesting (19)...all i can say is they are missing out
You know why he wrote that song??? It's because he shot dead this guy I went to school with for burgling his house the guy was a black belt and he went to attack him inside the house and he had no choice but to shoot him dead, the guy was dangerous his family was into car theft etc "Mapostori" originally from Zambia🙏🏾
Tinokumbira kurarama /Mutadzi ngaaregererwe shona to English translation. Here LKGD showed his spiritual side in this deep soulful rendition that not only touches the soul but reminds us to be prayerful in the midst of earthly problems. As usual its not easy to translate his lyrics to english because of how deeply poetic LKGD and his mastery of the Shona language. This song has many a times brought tears to peoples eyes ...its deep it interrogates and provokes human conscience ...this song alongside his namesake LKZ gomba remarara remain the deepest songs ever to be penned by any Zimbabwean in my own opinion ....enjoy ndingabude seiko mune zvakaipa....how can i overcome trangressions kunze kwekunamata ndiko kuti ndirarame...excpet praying is the way for me to live/survive ndingapunyuke seiko mune zvakaipa...how can i escape transgressions kunze kwekunamata ndiko kuti ndirarame...excpet praying is the way for me to live /survive pane uyo/ uyo uyo wandofungira mweya wakaipa..there is that someone whom i harbour dark thoughts on iye akanditadzira ndokumbirawo ararame....who has wronged me i plead that they live ndiri mutadzi panyika anochiva nekuuraya...i am a transgressor on this earth who lusts and murders seakanditadzira ndokumbirazve ndicheneswe...like those who trespass against me, i plead that i be cleansed ndiri mutadzi panyika anochiva nekuuraya...i am a transgressor on this earth who lusts and murders seakanditadzira ndokumbirazve ndirarame.....like those who trespass against me , i plead that i live/survive ndiyeka rusvava anochema zvomurwadza...here is a neonate who cries in pain tendeuka utarise ndokumbirazve ararame...repent and notice, i plead that it lives / survives ndinoreurura ini...i repent and confess kuti ndirarame....so that i live / survive vachauya here baba.. is the father /God coming? rinhiiko vachauya here baba kuzotinunura..when? is the fatber coming to rescue us muchauya here baba rinhiiko..are you going to come father/God? muchauya here baba mukati mehondo..are you going to come father/ God? in the midst of chaos
When it comes to music, I am a Zimbabwean!!! My room is always filled with joy of this song and I compare it to no other song on earth... Sadly I am a Malawian and do not understand so much of what he sings about. But no musician would satisfy me as Dembo does . I really am grateful to my father for introducing me to the Dembo world of music.... He could play the song early morning and late evening before going to bed...

indeed, its a sad story, singing about him being a sinner, praying for God to cleanse him, asking to live, a child crying from pain, praying that he lives, he confesses that he lives. He is asking when the Father will come, Muchauya here baba, rinhi? to save us. Are you there Muriko here? If i remember well he was not feeling well when he made this song, wonder it was a cry to God for healing?
Sunday 4 Dec 2022, listening to this song in Denver Colorado...such great memories I have of this song playing kumusha,Christmas day 1996, Gutu Chiwara...at the tender age of 10...thank you Dembo ,continue to rest in peace
Thanks for those who witnessed the life of this legend you are so blessed. He passed away b4 my birthday I'm now 26 years old now l, it's now 26 years now after he departed to join the heaven family. It's so painful to be born on the death of the mentors like this😢. Anywhere your music is the only legacy we inherited continue to rest in peace
Simbisanai henyu muzvikona muchipfekedzana crown yesungura but vanayo varipasi izvozvi. Their legacy is still putting on it. This is 26 yrs now without him, but the music is still new. Dembo was and will always be 50-100 yrs ahead. RIP legend
Sorry maan to know that your dad passed on but may his soul rest in eternal peace. This song can bring past memories back into life. May your mother stand strong through flat, difficult times and all, I salute
Since I was a young boy I have been listening this music with my father, up to now when I am thinking of those years back it seems like I am at another planet. I'm from Namibia
Rimwe gore was in Namibia saw a guy who was playing this song and I realised that Africa is one. now in Australia but I can honestly tell you Africa is the best
Am born in Zambia but Shona by originality!! I understand Shona in and out and enjoy Zimbabwean music!! I once learnt at Nyamasaka Primary school in Gokwe!! By then Mr Muzvidziwa and Mr Chemhuru were Head and Deputy respectively!! Whether alive or they are with the Almighty, they will never leave my memories because they really dedicated to their duties and for the one year I was there I got quality education!! Am in Zambia because the Zimbabwean Government could not approve my citizenship!! God bless Zimbabwe!!
He wrote that cause he shot a guy I went to school with dead, the guy was dangerous black belt he had to shoot him cause he was moving towards him inside his house dispite the fact he saw the gun. The guy was from a crime family car theft etc "Mapostori".
He was legend, he paved paths for the Upcoming generation.. Zimbabwe keeps on producing a never ending stream of great artist and classical hits Kudos from Namibia🇳🇦🇳🇦
those who dont understand the lyrics.... he was saying a prayer is everything. He was admiting that he is a sinner and he was asking for forgiveness. In some cases some people will wrong you but a prayer is a weapon. Ask for forgiveness and you shall live long
Thank you for your explanation.... indeed prayer is the only way to reach Jesus Christ and he delivers to his lovely father and the father hears our request if we admit our wrong doing. The man was blessed and talented I shall never forget him for the rest of my life he is a great man.
I'm in Namibia this is my favorite song weather I'm broke or have a problem I was listening to this song is my solution to my problems.....17/ 05/ 2021 time 19:40....Rundu town location kehemu
