For those who are interested; a demethanizer tower is basically a tower that seperates LNG into its different components when heated. the fumes rise and condense on different parts of the tower; getting different substances from each section of it. The heavier products at the bottom and the lighter products all the way at the top. Even the extra light gases given off at the very top are utilised. ( edit: thanks to anyone who helped clarify things in the reply section i'm not too experienced in the mechanical side of the tower only the science behind it since i major in chemistry we have to know how this works so thanks for the clarifications and likes in advance)

I had the pleasure of watching a 1,640,000lb 330ft long tower being moved here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. Amazing to see how these are moved. Search "1,640,000 pound petrochemical splitter being transported in Edmonton, Alberta" will bring it up

What's roundabout the pay for hauling something like this?
@Luckingsworth

Few hundred thousand easily. Takes months of work to get to this point. Acquiring permits, researching routes, working with municipalities. Potentially having to actually pave/repave new road, knock down and put back up fixtures. Etc. Plus the equipment costs and salaries of all the workers. But at the end of the day a drop in the bucket for oil refineries.

The trailer operators really need cabs attached to the trailers so they don't have to walk along side.

Why is this not on a freight train?
@rogerc.roberts4705
@rogerc.roberts4705 5 лет назад
Train tracks have curves and each car carrying the load has no choice but follow. On trucks like this you can "crab" through the corners. Besides, if memory is right, there wasn't any tracks in that section of Texas which would get the load to it's delivery location.

Its cost less to build almost ready in factory and then haul into work site... In Europe, we can see loads getting bigger and bigger all time.
