Because this song transcends America, it symbolizes freedom (plus it was sung beautifully by Demi). The national anthem is a story of when the British ships (after America gained independence) tried to bomb our military base in Baltimore. One of the British ships held American citizens captive. The National Anthem poem was written by one of the captives. They kept looking to see if the American base would surrender or faultier by checking to see if the American flag was compromised During the battle. Ever time the bombs were fired by the British , it would illuminate the sky and make the American flag visible. Every time the captives saw the American flag waving, they knew that the base hadn’t surrendered or been defeated by the British
