I would say focus on Texas. Texas is only red because people there don't vote. Focus on how it was Trump and the Republicans that voted against the border bill. Energize the youth and Hispanic vote there and it could easily turn blue

Us Alaskans love Mary Peltola. She’s been advocating for very important issues to us like speaking out against the Kroger and Albertsons merger which would close 9 of our grocery store locations and effectively create a monopoly in our major cities. We love our Alaskan native representation in congress 💙

@@pennybourban3712 No idea how mergers like that are allowed, we need stronger anti-trust laws that apply not just nationally, but locally as well. If your merger creates a local monopoly it shouldn't be allowed. Or, though this may be a bit too socialist for some Americans, a nationalized company for each necessity (i.e. a national grocer, energy company, internet provider, housing company, etc.) that can keep prices reasonable and prevent collusion and gouging (the real causes for ridiculously inflated prices).

The merger would make informally coordinated duopoly price gouging into monopoly. The proposed Democratic legislation will need both the House and Senate if it it to get through. This is serious.

There is no "only" anymore, all the possible electoral college votes count now. But I don't know if we're there yet where we can really challenge for Alaska in the GE.

I think it would be a waste of valuable time and resources. Alaska is an idiosyncratic state that likes specific candidates for specific reasons. Peltola has a unique appeal there, as does Lisa Murkowski. As much as I would like to think Alaska might vote Democrat on a national level, I don’t think it’s close enough to be sending Harris or Walz there. But you never know… I’d love to be wrong!

There's 76 days to election and I would love to see them make at least one stop in places that aren't usually visited enough -- Alaska, Texas, Florida, etc. -- Trump only won Texas by 600,000 votes in 2020 and over 7 MILLION registered voters didn't go to the polls. That's insanity! If we can bring joy and motivation back to the Lone Star state then we could flip a massive amount of electorates blue relatively easily, especially since Trump has shown his true colors since 2020.

I wonder if democrats are realizing that they MUST go and visit these traditionally red states, the chances of flipping them ARE THERE to be cultivated. And always remember, not only they need to win the electoral college, for the actual changes that are needed, they need comfortable margins in both houses. The USA is in dire need of structural changes, the EC must go! The SCOTUS needs reform. And I'd even say the House of Representatives NEEDS TO CHANGE, it currently does not actually represent the people.

The Dems need to control the US House of Representatives and have a majority slates in State by State House slates. Because if the Presidency gets thrown to the House because each State's House slate gets one vote and The candidate that gets the most votes wins ! Sort of like an alternate Electoral College .

That's what I've been saying. If Dems want to clear out MAGA, they have to be aggressive to try to expand the map. States are there for them to flip if they actually put in the work. Everybody thinks Florida is red, but Dems just don't spend money there. And the state is gerrymandered to appear like it's red. Texas is slowly getting bluer. Ohio is not as far gone as people think. Even states like Indiana and Iowa could get back to being swing states if Dems put the effort in. If Dems just focus on the battleground states, they'll never have a chance at flipping red states.

Most of the DiSantis/Trump backed candidates lost last night in Florida. "“All over the state of Florida, Moms for Liberty went down in flames,” Fried said. Fried said voters rebuked that agenda in Tuesday’s primary. “A majority of them lost last night and Ron Desantis endorsed 23 school board races. They only won about five or six of them. Most red states wouldn’t be as red as people think if it weren’t for voter suppression. They closed down tons of polling stations in cities in Texas before the last election. I’m English, and the concept of having to potentially queue hours to vote is absurd to me. We are meant to be the ones who like queueing.

The only person I can think of off-hand is Jewel and this isn't 1997 and she isn't nearly as famous as she once was. The last polling done for Alaska was over 4 weeks ago, before Biden dropped out. That had Trump at +7. If Harris has had the same impact as elsewhere, i would imagine that sometime in the next week, we'll find that Trump in Alaska is only +3 or +4 now.

Nancy Dahlstrom was Trumps choice and we had non stop ads in video from Trump himself supporting her. Glad to see Nancy tanked from the gate… As an Alaskan for awhile there are no real MAGA events. Took a few hundreds of miles trip around my state camping out this week and we counted a total of 6 Trump signs on houses, 1 man wearing a Trump t shirt and some male teens carrying a Trump flag and laughing. Folks that is it. Every where I go I talk to my neighbors and no more politics, and I know that we must now do the work to unite our communities once again and I believe we are ready to support the Working Class of America once again. I think Trump continuing to beat down on America as a 3rd world nation had a lot to do with it.

Alaska's population is around 733,000 people, smaller than most major cities. Every vote counts there. Although she never will, Lisa Murkowski has flirted with leaving the Republican Party. The state does have an independence streak.

@@JPH1138 The reason it's coming up is that Biden was trailing Trump by 8 pts, and now Harris trails Trump in FL by 3 or 4 pts, and typically the margin of error for polls like the one recently conducted in Florida is around +/-3%. So that puts Harris and her campaign well within striking distance of making Florida competitive. Couple this with the fact that reproductive rights and marijuana are on the ballot in FL in November, issues that have helped drive democratic voter turnout in other states like Ohio and Kansas, and it's not a stretch to say that Florida could be in play.

As an Alaskan, I'm not sure these results have any correlation with a national election. At least within the state itself, since very few people identify by party lines strictly. Mary Peltola cares about fish and energy rights, both of which are important in Alaska especially, but not so much across the country. She's also a known quantity; we care about that (see the write-in campaign for Lisa Murkowski).

Much like alaska, the democrats seem to always leave Florida out of everything. Florida needs to be spoken to. Housing crisis, insurance crisis, natural disaster issues, FEMA bullshit, auto insurance crisis, wildlife being decimated by home building companies, wetlands being paved over for stupid cookie cutter homes, drinking water issues and aquifer issues. If Kamala and Tim stopped by, addresses these problems and said "we hear you and here's our plan" it would honestly flip so many of those retirement seniors. Mary Petola and Lisa Murkowski work very well together, so I'm not surprised at all. It seems Ranked Choice voting does work if you have the right people on the ballot. Murkowski earned the trust of Indigenous people in AK who go to bat for her when she runs, now that they know Petola they will do the same.

@@jimvert7110 There's nothing scam when it comes to Ranked Choice Voting. Ranked Choice is the opportunity to elect someone with a Majority of the votes. Unlike First Past the Post in which you could elect someone with a plurality, meaning more people voted against someone who got elected. I don't care what party is involved, Preferential Ranked Choice works well, and it makes it clear that the Majority is what matters.

This is what I'm thinking. Modern day voters see elections as a popularity contest. People in swing states are told over and over again that their vote is the only one that matters. If it weren't for the electoral college, we'd basically have the exact same presidential election results every single year. So what if Dems. Changed that perception? What if they said "No, the entire country matters", and started campaigning in these "unimportant" states and districts. It may not flip Tennessee blue. It may not flip Ohio blue. But it might flip North Carolina blue. It might flip Texas purple. At worst, it'll get the ball rolling around the country.

I lived in Alaska from 1985-2005 and during that time, there were two Democratic governors. Alaska isn’t as red as people like to think. It only became more conservative when the oil pipeline boom happened and a lot of Texass and Oklahoma oil people moved to Alaska. The original spirit of Alaska is a strange mix of libertarian conservative and progressive. It’s no coincidence that Alaska has one of the oldest out gay communities in the country (like San Francisco, it developed out of the Gold Rush).

I was at a clients business and they were complaining about RCV saying they should just "opt out" and only choose 1 candidate that they want. Alaska is an odd one! Its almost like reverse for them. The larger cities/urban counties (Fairbanks, Anchorage, Juneau, etc) usually votes Red. While the rural counties usually votes Blue. The rural counties are loaded with Native Americans and Asians, that is why. They vote Blue. The urban areas usually Anglo Saxon people there. The Democrats have to hit up the cities there and and hold rallies.
