Demolition is underway at the corner of 17th Avenue SW and 5A Street. Most recently, Fishmans Dry Cleaning and Thai Thai Submarine occupied the property. Though I remember there were many restaurants and businesses that occupied this tiny plaza over the decades.
Does anyone know the age of this building? Was there an original structure, with later additions over the years? Also, what's the significance of the animals that were painted on the concrete basement walls? Any background on this would be appreciated. The small red brick structure in the basement was probably an old firebox boiler enclosure, that would be my guess.
Edit;
After watching my video I noticed something. The structure that stood here was L-shaped. The basement would have been where the lower portion of the L stood, and the upper portion of the L (where the pile of rubble and men are standing) appears not to have had a basement, and built on a float? So perhaps the basement section is part of the original structure, and the other portion was added later?
