In this Demon’s Souls Build Guide I’ll be showing you my Homing Soul Samurai Build, which is a variant of my Soul Samurai Build that uses Magic in addition to the Uchigatana. If you’ve been looking for a good hybrid Build that uses Magic, but also dishes out respectable damage with your weapon then you might want to check this Build out.

The Homing Soul Samurai Build was inspired by my Soul Samurai Build. A lot of players were disappointed that the original Build was a DEX based build and didn’t use Magic, and now I’ve rectified this by providing a magical-based alternative.
The way this Build works is that it uses buffs like Protection and the spell Homing Soul Arrow to enhance its combat capabilities, while dealing a solid amount of damage with the Crescent Uchigatana. The Crescent Uchigatana scales with the Magic Stat, and you’ll need a lot of Magic to make your Homing Soul Arrow and other Spells hit as hard as they can, so this is a deadly combination.
This Build was designed specifically with PvP in mind, however, it can work effectively in PvE as well, since Homing Soul Arrow deals incredible damage, even if you are not setup as a “pure mage” Build. Simply use HSA when you need to kill a tough enemy, and take care of the easier ones with the Uchigatana or something like Soul Ray.
Homing Soul Arrow is absolutely deadly in PvP combat because if you connect with all of the Arrows then it’s usually a one shot kill. Many players don’t know how to handle this spell, when it’s been used properly against them, and it works exceptionally well at dealing with players who are trying to ambush you hidden around a corner since the spell has better reaction time than you do.

Yo Fextra,your ds3 wiki site is full of viruses,and I can barely read content on it because of ads that cant be closed on the phone screen.Im using bitdefender anti virus,and when I get into the ds3 wiki site it tries to download something into my phone,please remove these non closable ads and virus.

It seems that getting the Cling Ring and Crescent Falchion are the two mainstays across all of these builds. Definitely an asset in surviving the early hours of the game.

The C. Falchion is, even when you are not using a magic build, incredibly helpful in Worlds 1 and 2, and in some extent in worlds 3 and 4 if you didn't brother in getting a Dragon weapon. We are talking of a weapon that saves you materials from upgradimg to +6 and then to Crescent, and also deals bleed damage.

I haven't made a battle mage type class yet but I imagine Ignite would be a good spell to include too for more close range spell damage.

My personal favorite is using firestorm and Soul Ray with enough stats to use a good amount of weapons and the northern regalia for a just in case.

is there an alternative to crescent weapons? cant find pure moonshade stone to get my crescent uchigatana to +5..already exhausted all lizards in world 4 and beat all the boss.

I made a similar one to this except mine went up to SL60 so my stats were Vit25 Int 15 End 13 Str 18 Dex13 Magic 30 Faith 16 Luck 7 I’m using a crescent uchi, wooden catalyst, talisman of god, wizard gloves, and ancient king set with old monk head-wrapping. Does ring and cling ring is usually swapped out with whatever I see fit.

Appreciate this is an old video, though not that old. I’m playing again now with a different build and decided to go for your Homing Soul Samurai…but the Uchigatan is strength 18. Not 12. Update or changed since release maybe?

You have to two-hand the weapon, your strength is multiplied by 1.5 when you two-hand. "12 Strength is needed to two-hand the Uchigatana effectively, as is 13 Dexterity so make sure you have that by the time you acquire the Uchigatana. "

By around SL 100 or so, you would benefit from an offhand weapon. I chose to go with a main hand Moon Uchi and offhand Crescent Uchi. You can still get your parries and that left hand slash is one of the quickest short range attacks in the game. I'd imagine Crescent and Tearing or Mercury Uchis would be even better since you're ensuring nothing can resist your melee attacks. Also, there's another rather effective spell combo for PvP: Fire Spray and Ignite. Hear me out. Fire Spray is more annoying than threatening. BUT for a mage, that damage accumulates too quickly to be ignored. So the opponent will almost always start using stamina rolling to close the distance. While you're still firing, switch to Ignite, wait for them to get in melee range, and nuke their asses back to the Nexus. Ignite is ridiculously fast and powerful and it normally will beat or trigger at the same time as a melee strike from an opponent. Meaning that as long as you don't miss, you're getting that Ignite off before they can do anything about it. Even if they somehow get a shield up in the last moment, they'll be sitting ducks ready to be riposted for a couple of seconds afterward. So if you really don't like Homing Soul Ray because it's drunk most of the time or you're facing magic resistant enemies, Fire Spray/Ignite combo might be even more effective. Oh, and there's also the "Instant Win Button" called Firestorm too but that's no fun for anyone. (Sorry to the invader I Firestormed last week. I was 1 black phantom kill away from PWCT so I committed a war crime and used Firestorm so I could get that stupid ring. I'm a terrible person with a soul as black as my world tendency)

I was about to go for this build but I been seeing other sources say Moon Uchigatana would be better than crescent and now I don't know what to do. They say dmg of crescent doesn't outdamage moon until 70 points in magic. Thoughts on this? Need to decide soon, so I would really appreciate the help!

Moon is surely more powerful for about 20+ points in both Physical and magic damage, however moon does not have the beneft of the MP regen that Crescent weapons have.

Noob question: why do you prefer the uchi to the falchion? Also, any reason to equip a shield? (Dark silver shield is tempting to have good defense vs melee and magic builds too)

Katanas have more range and bleed. Estoc can also work though as you get the nifty forward R1. A Dark Silver Sheild is nice but this build can't one hand the Uchi due to only having 12 Str and 14 Dex which he explains (2:24) so you're better off with a catalyst and Rydell's Pole. This build doesn't parry and relies heavily on good dodges and smart usage of Homing Soul Arrow.

Pure mage builds in Demons Souls PvE are great but trash in PvP, do a battle mage in PvP So you have variety. Only use spells to punish greedy healers, turtles or dragon Bone smasher snobs

I think normal upgrade path is when you have been investing in both STR and DEX, while Sharp is if you have been mostly investing points in Dex.

I started off as a pure mage and it was good for PvE but horrible for PvP because spell cast time is too slow and predictable. And weapon damage non existent. Until I had an upgraded crescent weapon (switched from falchion to Uchi) and now I’m able to properly defend myself and set up pretty fun plays against invaders. As well as troll them with firestorm near a cliff. I just pretend to stare down a cliff and they seem to think I’m distracted and most Demons Souls invaders have no honor (unlike most DS3 invaders from MY OWN EXPERIENCE) and try to get a quick cheap shot in (predictable and works every time) and then just nuke them off a cliff with firestorm and if it doesn’t kill them or knock them off, it will probably severely damage them and forcing them to panic roll into retreat to heal which is a phenomenal opportunity to roll catch them with the Uchi. 😂

Probably yes should work fine, but C-Uchi has the greater damage output and more bleed build up.

I’m new to DS. Is there a version of this that is more strength focused but uses magic? I have started as a temple knight and at 20 strength but would also like some decent magic (currently 14int and 10 magic). What build would you recommend? Thanks

I have just started the game like a week ago and I'm currently building a STR/Faith build for co-op and ocassional PvP. The Long Sword of Moonlight deals magic damage and scales it from your Faith Stat. If you want to use armor and Shields then you gotta invest in Endurance a lot so keep that in mind if you want to stay below meta levels. If you want to use a variety of spells then level Intelligence and magic.

When you two hand a weapon the strength requirement is lower. I think your strength counts for a 50% increase

Does anyone else find the pvp in this game super janky and just overall not very good? It feels to me like it was a complete afterthought and the mechanics were never balanced properly at all.

Definitely not balanced, but once you learn what works and what doesn’t, it’s stupid fun. The main issue I have is invader spawn points are easily camped by troll gank squads
