Zenitsu has no double personality. He has gone through hell of a training like tanjirou, he kills when he sleeps cuz he's scared when he's conscious.

It's understandable that you aren't feeling Zenitsu yet. But if that's how you feel by episode 17 then I don't know what to say.

Everyone's talking about how they'll like Zenitsu after episode 17, but I honestly liked him after episode 13. I think it's the most important episode to show what he's really like.

I would understand the hate on Zenitsu IF AND ONLY IF his character leaves other people behind just to save himself because you know, he’s cowardly character BUT HE’S NOT LIKE THAT. And that’s what made me love him. Because although he’s always afraid and a scaredy-cat, he always try to save other people and he’s very kind just like Tanjiro. All three of them are kind including Inosuke. As a person who has anxiety, he’s the most relatable character for me. You’ll see why in the future episodes. And I also love the voice acting for his character because it truly expresses what he’s feeling whenever he’s sad, angry, over the top, happy, giddy or scared. Whenever he’s complaining or scared, his voice would crack and you can see how the voice actor put a lot of work for his character. And I love it. I hope you, guys, give him a chance after this. Reactions to Zenitsu was disappointing, the introduction to how he fights was literally the answer to everyone's questions to why he survived final selection with his loud personality. Even in that episode, he said he somehow survived meaning he didn't even know himself.

I don’t get the hate towards Zenitsu.. this episode was more than enough for almost everyone who watches this show. It’s his character. He’s loud, he’s a wimp when he sees terrifying, horrible looking, man-eating monsters. Nothing wrong with that. In Zenitsu's defense, he has literally no idea why he's still alive. Whenever he kills something he's unconcious, so for him it's like a fever dream. He faints when it gets too much for him, then wakes up to death and mayhem. I would be freaking out constantly too!! like even when they got to pick out their ore he was freaking out because he had no clue how he survived the forest.. . . . like he literally hoped to die there. RIP but I do like him and I hope you guys grow to like him more in the future as more of his personality is revealed past the "annoying" one :D

I don't know where you got that information that many dislikes Zenitsu. He is in fact the second most popular character in the manga next to Tanjiro. I know some will not like him, but this reaction is the most disappointing I've seen. I love Zenitsu's character the most. And Hiro-tan, my favorite seiyuu, did a great job voicing this character.

It's not a multiple personality thing. Zenitsu is a massive coward but when he falls asleep, all his fear goes away and his body instinctively moves to protect itself. Basically Zenitsu is an amazing Demon Slayer but he's held back by his own cowardice.

No need to hate on them for disliking Zenitsu.... People has their opinion. I personally never thought Zenitsu annoying, because I know that's how it works on almost all manga/anime characters. He's my 2nd favorite character, I like him because he has a good heart. Yes, he's a crybaby, he always screams, but you know he's really kind, that he wants to protect people. Hope you guys can appreciate him more in the future episodes!!! (Sorry if my english is bad)

If you have to take notes in order to remember every episode that means you aren't a fan of the show... This isn't school, it's supposed to be entertainment. I have watched over 20 anime and I don't need to take notes in order to remember scenes.

I adore Tanjiro, he's probably one of my favourite Shonen protagonists. I love how he's so empathetic, but he doesn't hesitate to slay demons, he's incredibly kind and forgiving but never lets that get in his way :) it's rare to see such an amazingly compelling main character in a show like this

I just want everyone to bask in the utter brilliance that is the line: "Flaunt your corpse and serve as my springboard." I don't know if that's a direct translation or the translators' decision to "spruce up" the subbing, but wow. Its such an elegantly phrased piece of disturbing dialogue spoken by an equally boor/crude character (whose literally wearing a boar's head). I mean the last time I read a line as refined as that, it was in a Jane Austen novel. And then for the rest of the series, he doesn't utter another line like this. Just random brilliance I guess...

As much as I absolutely adore Zenitsu myself, I think a lot of you guys are forgetting that The Normies (and anyone, for that matter) are entitled to their own opinions. They can like and dislike any character they want. Not everyone is going to share the same opinion or outlook.

Zenitsu’s being able to fight when he falls asleep isn’t so much a second personality thing. As you guys have seen he’s incredibly scared at the thought of fighting and just Anxiety incarnate, but is actually pretty capable. It’s literally just his fear that cripples him so heavily from fighting and the only time Zenitsu isn’t scared is A.) when he’s unconscious (can’t be scared if you aren’t thinking, which allows his body reflexively take charge and fight) B.) when the people he cares about are in danger.

I really wanna know the reason why some of these "reactors" still dislikes Zenitsu even after this episode. He ranks 2nd most liked character in the official manga poll (even without this magnificent animation from ufotable they liked Zenitsu) Here, you can watch and you can hear him, all ya need is to be realistic enough to mind his age and his situation. This just shows that not all people can be as fine and ideal like Tanjiro. Zenitsu is strong and reasonable enough to fight for himself in the final selection and for that Kid.

when zenitsu was being trained by his master, his conscious remained the same coward young boy, but his sub-conscious and muscle memory remembered everything. so when he passes out. his subconscious takes over. so at this point zenitsu’s consious mind is actually the second personality, and the other one is his firsr.

I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction... Zenitsu is a great character and if this moment didn't make them realise it idk if they will change their mind later or not well people have diffrent taste it's life I guess in the end but still it was dissapointing ...

This was by far the most neutral reaction when zenitsu first just gave a glimpse of his breathing technique. I'm not hating but i really hope his fighting ep will give a more hype reaction. I was sort of disappointed but yeah, everyone has their own way to express their reactions.

Zenitsu is a great character not because he's a wimp--he's a great character because he IS a wimp, knows it--and still exponentially makes the effort to grow from it, even if you don't see his efforts immediately. Like you said, how did he survive the selection, or even demons despite being such a complete wimp? Or a even better question--how did he actually manage to even BE a demon slayer if he's such a wimp? This episode kinda proves it all (episode 17 will tell you more though), just through that simple and impactful move of his, Thunderclap and Flash. How much must a wimp have trained in order to move in such a way? Or even overcome his fears? He IS an eccentric character in the way that he's ALWAYS afraid of everything--but if you think this way: Zenitsu has ALWAYS been categorised as weird by other people. He was born with extraordinary good hearing. People get the CREEPS from knowing he can hear what they say or what they think because of his good hearing. Unlike Tanjiro whose sense of smell is widely appreciated, Zenitsu was ISOLATED, and completely beaten down because of his supernatural ability to listen to people using his capaibilities. Because of that he wanted to mould himself into something better. He's GULLIBLE, because in being GULLIBLE or PERVY, Zenitsu knows he's accepted, even though he's disdained by people for his weakness or his perviness. He BELIEVES easily in people despite HEARING otherwise using his hearing due to his desire to be accepted by others. And it is that desire that drives him to be better. As for why he HAS to fall asleep in order to be powerful or strong? Sure, its a cliche thing in anime, or a character--but Zenitsu is such a scaredy cat--his own powerful imagination makes him fear EVERYTHING. But at the SAME TIME, he desired so much to become an asset to others that he SUBCONSCIOUSLY found a way around it--by eliminating his cause of fear. By being unconscious, by closing his eyes ( note that each time he makes his moves in the future, Zenitsu's eyes are ALWAYS CLOSED), he eliminates his sight and relies on his instincts. Sight powers your imagination, and when he takes that barrier of his imagination and his sight away, that is when Zenitsu truly becomes powerful, because his one and only obstacle--FEAR itself is removed from him. That's what makes him such an admirable character.
