While I agree with the outdated feel, they did what they were supposed to do. The few deviations they took from the original game was met with pure anger from the fans. They wanted the same exact game that was released 15 years ago for some reason. Imagine if boss mechanics got changed. The very fans it was made for would have been in uproar. Storage pain, world tendency bs, all were cut for very good reasons in their games afterwards.
True I think I bc I never played the original it kinda threw me off so I didn't understand most decisions or mechanics if that makes sense but thanks for the insight!
@@Crashtestdummy103 couldn't agree more with the "thrown off" feel of the weird mechanics. They felt half baked and vague back then and FromSoftware never went back to it. I had hoped Bluepoint would either update it or remove it, but as previously stated, the purist crowd were already in REEEEEEEEE mode at the slightest change in the game. I had the privilege to play them all in order over the years, got from the slow jank of Demon's and DS1 to the faster pace of DS3 over time, it was nice. Then, Demon's Souls Remake, it felt like I was playing a very old game with a beautiful paint job, was hoping for more "remake" in the remake. I feel that 90% of the rest of the community would've just whined if Bluepoint tried to get creative with mechanics/systems.
@@chickenquesadilla8139 Yeah it's like being in between a rock and a hard place no matter what decisions were made for the game someone would of been upset and even with the most minor changes in this one had crazy uproar so I'm probably in the high minority on this one lol.
The game is actually very underrated but ok. Its a great game and especially the graphics in the remake are outstanding. Only the world tendancy and the terrible boss runs were bad.
I think if this was my first souls like game i would probably agree with this but I think bc I played the games so out of order I just felt the dated feel I went from ds3 to sekiro to ds1 to ds2 then elden ring.
as i played this game more and learned more about it the world and character tendencies became more interesting, still weird, but interesting. and once you learned the map more the runbacks weren’t actually that bad. like once you unlock the shortcut to leechmonger it’s fairly easy to get back. the runback to old hero can be taken care of with a few tosses of soul remains and quickly taking out the reaper in the first cave. and generally the third boss of each area is right next to the archstone.
Personally I loved Demon Souls and think that not enough people give it credit. I loved the atmosphere each area had and how diverse they all were. I also really liked the bosses despite them being easy. (the max I died to a boss was twice to dragon god) I liked how different they all felt and tried something new that wasn't just another guy with a sword. I did not really care that it was not a hard game since I heard how it was Fromsoft's 1st and VERY experimental game so I expected to breeze through it. Finally I love how short the game is. Kinda odd since longer games are usually seen as better but I found that I can't really go back to playing Elden Ring after I got all the achievements due to how long it is. Demon Souls is a quick game and my first playthrough was 10 hours.
They should not have done a 1:1 remake of this game. They already butchered the atmosphere, art direction, and sound design. The original Demons Souls was primal, dark and sinister. Everything felt deliberate, cold, and oppressive. On a technical level, the game lioks amazing. The particle effects, polygons, textures, it all looks really good even as a PS5 launch title, 3 years later. However, bluepoint took way to many liberties in the visual design and art to make the game look nothing like what it should have. Which begs the question... If they were going to change the game up so drastically and completely ruin the feel of the original, why didn't they just do more with the underlying mechanics themselves and just change everything? This remake is awkward and weird in every sense of the word, and this is coming from someone who started the souls series with Demons Souls back in 2009 and had sunk hundreds of hours into the original PS3 version. I played DeS until Dark Souls came out in 2011 and let me tell you how crazy it felt as a hardcore DeS fan to jump to Dark Souls, it was one of the best experiences ever. It was the exact opposite of the disappointed souls fans who start with later entry points and have to suffer through the jank of older games and it ruins there experience to the extent that they struggle to highlight the high points of that said game. I can forgive a 1:1 remake for better or for worse, but I cannot forgive the excessive liberty that bluepoint took with the visuals and sound. The original Flame Lurker and Man Eater soundtracks were way better than the corny remake symphony epic.
The game feels easy because it's balanced around Ng+ not your first play through. You're meant to play through it a second time and discover the world tendency events all the side quests etc. if you allocate your stats in a sensible.way and make some effort to upgrade your weapons you'll become OP in your first play through. They also added 8 way rolling to the game but didnt update the AI at all to deal with that which basically makes the bosses super easy. World tendency is great, but for some reason they took away the server tendency average in the remake which is stupid.
Sounds like you and me both bought ps5’s last week at the same time lol. I did the same as you, played demons souls first then bloodborne. I didn’t like demons souls either, the game felt way more tedious than all the other souls games. So far I have loved every souls games, even ds2 which I can admit is the worst one of the bunch. But I genuinely did not like demons souls at all and probably won’t play it again. Bloodborne on the other hand, just beat it today, is easily top 3 for me now right behind ds1 and ds3
Yeah even with only two hours in on bloodborne I've had a much better time on it then demon souls. And your getting me really excited to get back into it lol ill make sure to make a video with my thoughts on it after i finish.
@@Crashtestdummy103 the only problem with bloodborne is a) 30 fps, which I got used to pretty quickly and b) it’s a 8 year old game so all the bosses have been spoiled for me. But all the fights are still extremely fun and as far as exploration and discovering secrets goes I never really watched any of that on RU-vid, so it was really only the bosses that I already knew about. Bloodborne is top tier and if I played it when it came out I bet it’d be #1 for me
I don’t think this game is underrated at all so many people I know hate this game and it’s almost never talked about definitely not overrated just bad compared to any other game from fromsoftware
Yeah only reason i said overrated is because from videos I've watched and friends I've talked to gave it high praise and sadly was disappointed overall.
I feel the reason you feel the way you do is because this game is the very first ever. Came out in 2009 before any of the souls games came out. This is the original template.
