Disclaimer: Oh boy.
I've excluded most mentions of specific faiths in this book. You can look'em up if you want. The exception is Christianity because it plays a key part in weakening the Earthbound. But yeah, buckle up. You're in for a ride.
In this video we finally begin to unravel the mysterious, and sinister origin, of the Earthbound. These are demons who were not released, but summoned from the pits of the Abyss, and contained within special vessels.
The first five to be summoned were the Archdukes of the legions, but many more were to follow.

Great stuff. I like the Ezekiel angels description in the Bible. Just wings, eyeballs, and animal faces on the sides of their heads. I played a few rpgs in the '90s, but I might look into groups in my area who play one of the games in this universe.

Great video Demon is such an underrated game. Easily the best OWOD game imho. I love in the earthbound sourcebook when some occultist tried to bind Belial. It goes about as well as you think it would

Love the video and the history. Small nitpick, it was Thebes, not Macedon that defeated Sparta. Phillip never bothered to conquer Sparta when he took the rest of Greece and Sparta just slowly became irrelevant. That could be its own whole story. The city, once powered by some demon or other, lost its patron and slowly faded to sad obscurity

Great job as always! Do you have a favourite Earthbound? Mine is Belial, his reliquary is very Lovecraftian and he's the perfect example of a fully tormented Demon.

Oh yeah his Reliquary and his true visage were heavily inspired by Cthulhu. And his role as the Great Beast™️ casts him as the Antichrist

The whole "Lucifer started Christianity" thing leads to a lot of unfortunate implications and probably a lot of annoyed Christian white wolf fans, i think it may have helped a bit if they put the origin story into doubt like they did for VtM so non-abrahmic faiths don't end up feeling like "Oh i guess our beliefs aren't real huh?" It's kind of a lose/lose situation though since you can't really do that much to avoid massive headaches and problems cropping up.

All TTRPGs suffer from people who can't separate reality from the game. I say this as believer that if their faith is so fragile that they are threatened by a bunch of kids and young adults playing make believe, they weren't that devout in the first place. The community is better off without them.

I dunno I believe what jesus said was true not sure if I believe what people say about him is true, and from my reading the antichrist is Christianity as a form of worship, he was pointing to God and religion points to him, same thing I see with Buddhists, he was pointing to the truth, I can't imagine either of them appreciate the statues and the vain repetitions of prayers and rituals, Jesus also said call no man father cough cough Catholics, if you read the bible you will see the ones guilty of the most hypocrisy are the formalised religions, they become middle men and overlay their perspective of reality of thier flocks when jesus said to use your eyes to see and your ears to hear

take for example you will know them by thier fruits, it's been less than 17 full biblically perscribed lifetimes of 120 years since Jesus or the start of our calender if you prefer, think about the state of the world now and the amount of churches there are considering 17 lifetimes ago Jesus was a lowly labourer walking up and down Judeah, (a carpenter if your catholic) I don't care if your aethiest agnostic or completely apathetic that's astounding, a downright miracle or our history is completely false, 17 lifetimes between us and a world without the understanding brought by Jesus, I would even go as far as to say the first internet was the churches and pilgrims, knowing when you travel somewhere you will meet people who follow the same rules as you and you will be welcomed with hospitality not brutalized and murdered lifts such a huge anxiety that was draped across all human consciousness, and really is a burning beacon of light against the darkness of fear and the unknown

There was something somewhere I thought about Lucifer being mad at "that rabbi" for not accepting his help. He did try to "guide" it after that. Similarly, I personally saw it as these critters messed with these religions, and pretended to be their gods rather than being the start of them. That was my personal take on it though. Other WOD games also had their splats pretend to be gods.

@@aaronmcmillen8140 Fair enough but what about if one party tries to do something that ruins your plans? The problem with two groups of immortal beings trying to control one empire from the shadows is that they are going to stand on each others feet at some point

They didn’t really. Vampires are so far beneath the notice of the Archdukes it’s not even funny. Like with the exception of the Antediluvians and Caine himself none of them could match their power. And since they’re also damned they don’t have the divine spark to generate faith from worship. If the Ancients thought about the Cainites at all it was likely “well it will work for me or I’ll kill it.”

I feel like a sufficently mature group could play a really really good game of this. Lots of themes to be told here but i doubt anyone but edgy teens have ever played this and its a damn shame

Propably. I mean Kupala is also discribed as an Earthbound. Propably one of the 666 lesser ones. Propably tried to escape one of the Archdukes and got bound by the Garou.

Actually Jesus isn’t brought up at all in Demon besides in passing mentioning that the Archdukes couldn’t corrupt or destroy Christianity no matter how hard they tried and “something” repealed them from the places where Christ was allegedly at in the Bible. I only assume this was to not go toooo far in offending Christians. WW tended to not deal with Jesus directly in any game tbh
