I initially set out to do a quick gloss over the Red Panda Context V2, but no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't manage to get this done in under 20 minutes. It's a killer reverb pedal and worth every dang minute. For more content like this, be sure to subscribe here: rb.gy/gje0iq

I was introduced to this lovely Red Panda pedal at NAMM 2020. I was impressed with it then and I'm still impressed with it now. This isn't just an ambient reverb pedal. There are tons of cool reverb sounds for any type of music or application.
The Context is a reverb pedal inspired by 1980’s rack mount reverbs. It has 8 algorithms, including room, hall, cathedral, gated reverb, reverse reverb, plate, spring, and a granular reverb. Version 2 adds stereo input/output, USB MIDI, fully assignable expression pedal, 3 new modes, delay plus reverb in all modes, separate high and low frequency damping controls, modulation, dynamic reverb, and infinite hold.
The Room, Hall, Cathedral, Gated, and Plate reverb algorithms are updated versions of the Context version 1 reverbs, but now delay is available in all modes. They also have separate low and high damping controls with more range.
The modulation knob changes the amount and character of the internal reverb modulation. It gives you a mix of different modulation types from 1980’s and early 90’s reverbs, including chorus modulation, random modulation that keeps the pitch stable, and deep modulated reverbs. Holding down the shift button adjusts the modulation rate.
Reverse reverb fades in louder and brighter over time, giving the impression of playing backwards. Modulation adds a wash of normal reverb.
The spring reverb is not a model of any specific spring reverb. Instead, they designed a spring reverb algorithm using the techniques and algorithms that were used in 1980’s reverbs, but with a lot more processing power available. It gives you the chirp, drip, and feel of a spring reverb with a slight twist. You can adjust the length of the decay, high and low frequency damping. The modulation is tremolo with adjustable intensity and speed.
Grain mode is a granular reverb inspired by the Ursa Major SST-282 Space Station. The SST-282 was released in 1978 and used multiple delay taps with modulation to create reverb effects. The Context can create ghostly reverb effects, slowly sweeping resonances, and at higher modulation settings is a multi-voice granular processor that creates clouds of detuned sound fragments for entirely new reverb sounds.
When the shift button is held down, the top row of knobs adjust delay parameters. The low and high damping knobs adjust dynamics for ducking reverb or an expander for more reverb on louder notes, with adjustable threshold and recovery time. Holding down the foot switches gives you two different types of infinite sustain.

Gotta watch this again and again. Good walk through. I especially like when the delay is on the background but makes the verb more lush and swirling. Amazing how many original sounds it can let you make. I will have to try it once.

I really can’t understand why this channel doesn’t have more subs?! Your musicianship always shines through in your demos.

Mate, what a review. Just riff after riff, all enhanced by the gorgeous reverbs. Around 18 and a half minutes, think it's the plate reverb, just wow. I'm going to spend some time tomorrow when the kids are in school messing about with some reverb. Also, it's a really cool design on the pedal too, the drop ripples. Good work as always!!

I really enjoyed watching how much you enjoyed this pedal. Its a great machine. I grabbed one a few weeks based off of your (and a couple others) review. Couple of niggling issues with noticeable volume drops which I hope they can eventually update with some sort of firmware patch, but aside from that, it's a brilliant pedal.

Awesome review! I have one but haven't had much time to dive into it yet. Also own a Particle 2 which is an absolute killer delay. Question - how do you create your backing tracks? I love the bass and especially the drum beats!
@DemosInTheDark
@DemosInTheDark 3 года назад
oh yeah, time is required on this puppy! thanks for the kind words! i make the backing tracks myself. i am always buying sampler instruments (drums specifically) and the "breakdown" part was a drum loop. bass was a fender p-bass. cheers!

you know, they all put their own spin on things. ultimately, you’re buying the algorithms. it’s like tacos, ask 10 people who makes the best taco and you’ll get 10 different answers. haha

great pedal! if i remember correctly the old context had a damp function where you can get the sound darker. does the low mix work like that? and if now how can you get a darker, mellower sound?
@DemosInTheDark
@DemosInTheDark 3 года назад
there is damping with the shift control on those high and low functions. i didn’t cover some of that deep stuff because i was already staring down the barrel of bathroom breaks in the video.

@tonybrooks476
@tonybrooks476 3 года назад
@@DemosInTheDark yes. Very much so. The MLR has an incredible modulated pad sound that it just fabulous. It’s all I uses it for. And as for the Treverb well as I got it for £99 second hand rather than £179 it’s the bargain of the year for me. The harmonic trem with some extra reverb added to it is just beautiful. With the MLR going in to the Treverb it just adds gentle wobble to the modulated pad and helps add movement. You should check out some of the Fender pedals. Sensibly priced quality products.
