Frank Zappa, a legend and hero of mine, had a bit of a modding problem. He modded everything. Zappa's Big Muff was HEAVILY modified.
Years ago somebody sent Stomp Under Foot pictures of Frank Zappa's modified big muff. These mods give it a very smooth, warm sound on the bass side but allowed a little brightness on the high strings.
Zappa's modifications also reduced the gain of the pedal making it more of a low to medium overdrive and distortion type of pedal.
