I bought a series of manga in Japanese, and my goal is to be able to read them all as a treat to myself. I have the dubbed anime, but I am avoiding watching it, so I have the sence of accomplishment. I need to get on my Japanese studies.
Thank you for this awesome review video, the map at the end is really helpful too! I'll be going to check out Den Den Town later today ^_^ I really want those vocaloid takoyaki!
You'll love it! There's a few more to come :-) I didn't go to Kobe but it's so close - if I went back it'd be on my list! My friends went on a day trip to Mount Koya which looked amazing. I went on a little half-day trip to Minoh Park - not far away & there's a waterfall!
There is a video coming up - we miiight get to it before you go! If you're doing other countryside things I'd say Kobe, or if you fancy a break from the city, go for Minoh. It's really a half-day trip I'd say.
Great video! 🙂 I like that you have an advert for your shop in the video. Thought I honestly thought the video ended and I was kinda confused at first xD
It's crazy that I was walking there from Namba almost every day just 3 weeks ago! I came to enjoy Den-Den Twon just as much as Akiba with a more relaxing pace and the proximity to thousands of restaurant in Dontobori. Take me back!!!
Ah thank you, that's great! I follow a lot of Japan blogs, and on Twitter, and watch a lot of Japan videos so I hear about a lot of great places and things going on - always makes me want to go back!! :-)
Cakes with Faces Akiba is Akiba can't be replace 😎. But i like that place too, there is my prefered ramen restourant ahahha. And about Otaku stuff can found the same like akiba, same shop have low price too, i bougth good stuff there ;)
Welcome to my channel!! Glad you're enjoying the videos! Akihabara is in Tokyo - the best train ticket to get is a Suica card. You top it up with credit, and it's valid for all the trains in Tokyo. There's a video in my Japlanning playlist all about taking the train! 😊
I really enjoyed this vlog. Your in-depth knowledge of otaku-goods always amazes me! Will there be a Den Den Town part 2 vlog? (it would be nice). I am very much addicted to gacha gacha (that is how we call it where I am: central Japan) and usually empty my wallet to get what I want!
Thanks! There are lots of people who know way more than me!! :-)I'm always amazed at how many cute/funny/strange gacha there are! That's it from DenDen Town, but I do have more from Osaka and new Akihabara videos coming up :-)
awesome vidoe, i wodner, do you have a vidoe on buying supplies to ship figures and games back to your home? I wonder where to buy the wrap, boxes, etc
@@cakeswithfaces always think once i get there i may buy a second case for the amount of stuff i may end buying, but stuff like boxed consoles may need to sent them to myself
@@TheRealKarmaquarius It's always worth checking if your airline allows two checked bags. In the past I've taken an empty holdall inside my suitcase just in case, or even packed a medium suitcase inside a larger one, although I've never bought that much that I've needed it! My friends have shipped stuff home when they bought a lot - I believe they used either the Post Office or Takkyubin (with the cute cat logo!).
I need the Pop Team Epic shirt for my job "You are not my friend". I would love to know/meet the cats that posed for the cat hat pictures. I got a few of them when I was in Tokyo. So funny.
I know this video was uploaded almost a year ago but I was wondering if there are elevators in some shops? I have a big fear of escalators plus with my disability escalators are hard anyways. Are there elevators or just normal stairs?
Answering this more about Akihabara as I'm more familiar with it (I've only been to DenDen Town once but it's quite similar in many ways). Pretty much all games arcades do have elevators. The larger stores have elevators for sure (like Kotobukiya, Radio Kaikan, Animate, Akiba Culture Zone, Super Potato), but not the smaller places. While most shops have multiple floors, there is stuff on ground level that's accessible - although a lot of shops are a bit cramped with not a huge amount of space (I don't want to put you off - just trying to give a realistic picture). Elsewhere, shopping malls, department stores, stations and larger shops have elevators, and you'll sometimes find them eg between two buildings to get to the upper floors, where you might not necessarily have expected to find one - I guess when buildings have so many floors, no one wants to take the stairs! If you haven't seen it already, this site's really useful too: www.accessible-japan.com/ Hope that helps! :-)
Cakes with Faces Thankyou so much for responding to me! This gives me a better understanding, I’m fortunate enough that I can still walk (somtimes need a wheelchair) but as long as some shops are some what accessable then I can work my way around whatever issues may I face (crowds ect). If I can avoid escalators at all costs I will 😂. I was meant to be going in October but won’t be happening now so pushed it back to next year hopefully 😅
@@FooFarny There'll still be lots in DenDen Town & Akihabara that you can enjoy! :-) Sorry your trip got postponed. I should have been flying out this weekend. When we finally make it out there we'll enjoy it all the more! :-)
Did you know that "den" means electric. Denden Town's the Osaka version of Akihabara, which is known as Electric Town. And train = den-sha, which means electric car. Phone = den-wa, which means electric talk :-)
I think it was Gee Store Osaka. They had such a good choice of items! You might like this video too :-) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IG7JdVkl82o.html
I was supposed to go here back in January 2018 during my first trip to Kyoto. Didn't push through because I found the Nendoroid I was looking for at a Toranoana Comics in Teramachi Dori in Kyoto, and time constraints.
@@cakeswithfaces Several around Teramachi-Dori actually. You just need to look carefully. I even found an Animate and also a few hobby shops that sell figures too. Essentially hidden gems. And there's in fact two Lashinbang branches in Kyoto: one near Nishiki Market, on top of a 7-Eleven, and another near Kyoto Station.
@@RenerDeCastro Thanks for the tip! It seems lots of cities have sections with figures and manga, etc - not just the famous districts like Akihabara and DenDen Town. I found quite a few in Sapporo recently.
Been wondering this for a while and not sure have you answered it somewhere. How can you afford to go to Japan so often, especially since you travel together! I just spent three weeks in Tokyo and really really really wanna go back with my husband :D Edit: because if I remember correctly you do not live in Japan, right!?
Yes, I live in the UK! It might look like I go to Japan more than I actually do - I just film a lot :-) But really I save up as much as I can. You choose what you want to spend your money on. So I try to live as cheaply as I can in everyday life and not buy things or spend money on going out, so I can save up. Then I shop around for flights and hotels to get the best deal, and wait for sales, etc. Hope you can make it back there sometime! :-)
..any plans on making a video of Japanese bands/music scene?..what are your favorites?,,the first shop you went into (cosplay shop) is playing Shunkan Sentimental by Scandal..no surprise since Scandal is from Osaka..
I do like Scandal! Don't know if you saw my Kappabashi video but they were playing Reel Big Fish in one of the shops - so random! I like ska punk, my favs are Yum Yum Orange, Ketchup Mania, Oreskaband, SpecialThanks, Golbetty....
@@cakeswithfaces ..i really wish i learned about your videos earlier,it's 1:30 AM from where i'm at and i'm still watching the DenDen Town : The Akihabara of Osaka, i can't sleep after seeing all those selections of gachapons..i like Scandal as well (have you seen them perform live?they have a new single "Masterpiece") yes i like Ketchup Mania as well Misaki and her band Special Thanks..try listening to Musmus,33 Insanity's Vertebrae maybe you'll like them..also if you like skanking though they are not from Japan check out The Interrupters and their song "She's Kerosene"..
@@winterkarasu7560 Thanks for the recs, I'll look them up! Ska's my fav type of music because it's so upbeat & puts you in a good mood :-) I haven't seen Scandal live, have you? They came over to the UK once but the tickets were really expensive!
@@cakeswithfaces ..hey how are you? it's been a while since I've listened to Ska/Punk..i missed it then i heard of the The Interrupters they're pretty good..catchy and melodic..yes i was lucky i saw Scandal when they held a concert back in Manila i couldn't believe at first that they were actually there its like after their 3rd song that's when i started jumping up and down..
Hey Amy. When I see your videos on shopping I fill I love to buy everything as if it’s a one off product and if I don’t get it, it will be gone! I know that’s wrong. It’s good I’m on a budget.. Can you please recommend a website for anime figures , not sure on the ones at hyper japan. I’m more into female figures. I love japan culture as I fill more free in expressing my interest. I’ve got a Nintendo switch and PS4. I fill ever in debt to my dad who bought me a black and white gameboy when I was 14 as I done well in school. Costing £60 with 2 games. Never forget. What’s your favourite console? Game? I still love Pokemon and I’m 31 years old this month on the 21st October. memories 🙏😊
For figures I'd say wait till you're in Japan as you'll save so much money! They're about a third the price of what you pay at Hyper Japan or comic con. I like how creative the Nintendo consoles are, they always do something a bit different. I really like Overcooked but I'm terrible at it. But my all-time fav will always be dance mat
seeing the dweeb be there literally caught me by surprise since it's not fully caught up on recent anime since most places do doraemon and pokemon and some other old classic shows
Cakes with Faces hi, yeah, a hello kitty backpack, hello kitty coffee flask, Mario kart clock, all sorts, we try to play them as much as possible. As you cannot buy the items in store and are rare. If I don’t want them I sell them
It's hilarious!! There's quite fake instrumental music in shops/restaurants in Japan - I think the licences to play proper songs must be expensive or something!
Osaka is kind of strange,... the people are too friendly but they have yummy food compared to Chiba,... it's really weird to see all the Korean tourists at Osaka castle,... I just feel upside down in this place, but yeah, the people here are really nice,...
@@cakeswithfaces Tokugawa utterly trashed the castle in the Summer Campaign of 1615,... hahaha! then he had to rebuild it for security reasons but made the other clans pay for it (^_^) ... and then it got destroyed during the Boshin War,... I think by the 1930's the city government said ' screw it, we're rebuilding this with concrete! '
Not difficult at all! If you have Google Maps you can find it easily, and it's quite easy to spot the arcades and which are the anime merch shops from the shop signs and window displays, etc. Price labels are easy to understand, and you don't really need to say much when you're buying something - just take it to the till and hand over your moneys! :-)
I've always loved drawing, and to start with Cakes with Faces was just an online gallery of my artwork. I started the shop in 2011, after I'd been working for a couple of years - it's actually Cakes with Faces (the shop)'s 7th birthday at MCM London Comic Con this month! I first went to Japan slightly before that, in 2010 and just always wanted to go back each time! :-)
@@hahqhq5409 Lots of prices here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--e31rMHNIto.html It's based on Akihabara but the prices in Denden Town weren't too different in my opinion (even though a lot of people say it's cheaper).
