Denman defied top weight to win the 2007 Hennessy Gold Cup in a performance that still sends shivers down the spine more than a decade on.
Carrying 9lb more than his nearest rival and making his first public appearance since a dominant display in the RSA Chase eight months previously, Denman blew his rivals away under Sam Thomas.

I've loved horse racing since I was 12. I'm 50 now and would say Denman is my favourite ever horse. So many happy memories. That's what this sport is all about. Never forget that day in November 2007.

What a brilliant horse Denman was. One of my favourites, but look at Dream Alliance in second. He was brought up on an allotment in Wales. I had forgotten that he was second to Denman. So lovely to be able to see all these wonderful racehorses again.

Best steeplechaser ever at his best.The tank and sheer guts makes him the best.Maybe Arkle would be up there but the tank at his best would step up a gear you cant always compete with

A monstrous performance off top weight, I think this was The Tanks best performance followed by the Gold Cup in 2008 and his 2nd Hennessy in 2009.

Don't forget his 2nd in the 2011 gold cup that was won in record time by long run on ground which wasn't his favoured, that was a mighty run at the age of 11

What a horse denman was travelled jumped and quickened a true champion if he hadn't had his heart issues he would have won plenty more top races rip big fella

It is the 2007 renewal of what is now the Ladbrokes Trophy. Remember it very well. Denman certainly was a rising force in steeplechasing via a Gold Cup victory on the way and a second victory in the Newbury feature. On the same day, Harchibald won the Fighting Fifth Hurdle.

@@nadefodder2874 Not try to be a dick here but Kauto Star ran in about 3 or 4 handicaps, albeit the limited kind where the weight range from top weight to bottom weight was more compressed.

@@seanscanlon9067 actually he ran in two limited handicaps, both of those were at aintree in the mildmay chase and he lost the second one and never ran in anything but level weights after that.
