Brandenburg is best because we formed Prussia and unified the nation ... while the bavarians had a mad king who lived in fantasy land, thus enabling us to BUY the kingdom. [There is actually a rather nice story from the coronation in 1871, because the precise title for Wilhelm I. was a big issue ... the "authoritarians" demanded "Kaiser of Germany", but that would have meant he would be "in command of the King of Bavaria" for example ... the moderates wanted "Kaiser of all Germans", which was too weak for the other faction. In the end the one person who had to proclaim the emperorship and thus choose the title came up with A THIRD OPTION and thus solved the dispute: German Kaiser! Anton von Werner has made some rather colourful paintings of that event ...]

@@claudiotavares9580 Swedish is certainly the biggest of all 3, while Danish is a bare as Mamluk tree. Norway is also wasted with generic mission tree, while it has potential for some viking flavor, getting independence and doing colonization, currently they are pretty much a Portugal which you put under PU, gave crap land and removed a mission tree.

@@thebronywiking ... because you failed to understand that "to beat Russia you have to become Russia"! Viking longboats are fine in the baltic sea and even up to North America, but they are useless in Mother Russia. So ... form Prussia and then switch to Russia like Ludi explained a while ago ... and have your capital in eastern europe (Danzig maybe?) ... for some Cossaks / Streltsy with prussian ideas.

Ludi, I watched your Castile guide the other day and actually the Castilian civil war isn’t called the Portuguese war in Spain. It was more of a succession war between Isabel the First, who will become queen later, and Juana la Beltraneja, who probably was a girl with a not really well known past in the nobility that seemed to have a claim in the throne, each having their supporters within the country, so it was in fact a civil war. The misconception is that actually Isabel was married to Fernando, the aragonese king, and Juana was married to the Portuguese king. So actually Castile formed a union with Aragon because Isabel’s side won, supported by her husband. Probably Castile would have formed a union with Portugal instead if Juana’s side won.

Juana la Beltraneja was the firstborn child of Henry IV, King of Castile, and his second wife. She was heir apparent to the crown for a time. However, the King was known for not fullfilling his "conjugal obligations" and had not had any children with his first wife, so his rivals spread the rumor that she wasn't his child but that of Beltran, a courtier (which is why she was known as "la Beltraneja") .

Good video for Denmark! What I would like to add is, that you can also put some Scotish Provinces as your vital interest, so your Norwegian PU Member makes some claims onto the British Isles. Best option obviously would have been, that England crushed them, canceling their alliance with France, so you could take over them (maybe vassalize them to requonquer lost cores from the English). After that you can attack the Irish Minors and England.

I will add a point here - I am never taking/vassalizing Riga in the first war against Livonians. Because when I attack Riga directly next time, Lubeck is very often called to war as well, so I annex Lubeck and that strengthtens Denmark's trade position and I dont have to care about attacking into HRE. :)

Yeah but then you have to worry about the hre forming a coalition against you (something about a non-member controlling hre land? Idk) Personally, I never take Lubeck unless the Emperor is someone other than Austria

@@fluffydragon1525 Nah, if you spread your AE correctly, then it is okay and it is even doable to annex both Lubeck and Hamburg pretty early in the game. I know it for sure, since Denmark is my most played nation in EU4. :)

Just form Prussia (because the Denmark mission tree sucks) and then morph into Russia yourself (as Ludi showed a while ago ... keeping prussian ideas but getting russian government). If you can also change your unit type to "eastern european" you can even get Prussian Cossacks ...

I always go for Novgorod, Danzig and Loithan, preventing the UK, Prussia and Russia from forming. After that it's usually smooth sailing. Vassalise and integrate Munster for quicker access to the new world.

It's much more annoying to prevent Russia from forming because then they don't colonize the frontier which makes 1600-1821 soooo trash. Better to let Russia get as big as possible and eat them

Thanks to you ludi for your videos I got a better grasp of the game. Like not being scared of loans and hiring mercenaries to win wars! 😅 Decided to finish a game for the first time, took ottomans just for the run, like every start it's fun but there's a point in the game where, if you want to go to Europe, you got to fight waves of coalitions nonstop, its a toil, I must admit. Been fighting coalitions for 100 years now and I'm at 1594. I guess the AI is not giving me a choice, all or nothing. Is it like that in every game for you, reaching a certain point, is that what you call snowballing?

Pro tip U can pick humanist ideas first but don't spend any points in them, wait till u have mil points cap then cancel the humanist ideas and go for quantity. U can get an event that gives you -10% idea cost. 200iq

about personal unions, i was playing brandenburg for the first time and got pu'd by muscovy. I thought it was over and wanted to restart however i got pretender rebels. i had no army after a brutal succesion war so i let them win and install their own king. When they did i thought nothing would happen due to the pu however they managed to get me my own king, ending the personal union WITHOUT an independence war, anyone supporting my independence and without killing muscovy opinion of me. i was so happy that paradox just felt bad for me and gave me free independence after only 4 years of personal union. Sadly i could not get any of my alliances back and a year later bohemia and poland declared war on me and i quit

There are much more efficient ways of playing Denmark. Keep Riga independent and use the trade league to conquer cities such as Bremen and Hamburg without having to fight the empire, vassalize Novgorod and use its missions for Russia and vassalize Scotland to take over the British isles and you’re basically just a monster at that point and it’s not even 1460 PS. Pronunciation of Gønge was HORRENDOUS

If you let the starting rebels take over in Denmark you get a king with the same dynasty as Wolgast and Stettin. Easy way to get some free HRE land without fighting Austria. Also if you help them become Pomerania and then PU them you can have a very large Denmark much faster.

@@kalterverwalter4516 if you No CB East Frisia and don’t stab up eventually they will get to Sjaeland the same way they get to gonge from Gotland. I have only ever been able to pull this off in Ironman mode at very hard difficulty.

Poland is they can start with a PU over Lithuania and its pretty easy to get Bohemia, Brandenburg, Denmark, Hungary, and believe it or not burgundy as well as long as u got 200 relations with them

Austria get Burgundian inheritance and ludi is 'that's going to lead to a strong Austria'. Next time 'we' look' at Austria, the Emperor has a weak set of allies and has frittered away the Burgundian Inheritance. A stronger emperor is needed. A Danish emperor,. 'France is going to have an easy game'. So much for Denmark forming France.
