On the solder side of the lower board, in the area of the voltage regulator solder joints (these are the elements on the silver heat sinks), you can find salty dirt that has probably leaked out of the capacitors. This dirt is conductive. If you remove this dirt with a fine brush and possibly some solvent and scratch gently between the tracks, then the device works again.
