My question is why did the resistors blow ? Or ANY of the other parts. Not impressed for 4 yrs. old and a High-End brand. Upon further listening to video , DO NOT let customer hook up those speakers😍 Sounds like they damaged something. Really interested to see the WHY this happened. That video will be a doozy.
I used your video to test and repair a Denon avr-x1300w. it was almost identical problem. I am just a novice hobbiest. Can you tell me why when I get to the bias adjustment, it is reading 187mv when other channels are reading 2.4-2.8? I replaced D2390 65 P, B1560 65 P, qty 2 - 4.7ohm and qty 2 - .47ohm resistors. The unit powers on now! only thing different I can see on the parts I replaced is the D2390 has a 54 P instead of 65 P, same with the B1560 has a 54 P instead of a 65 P. Will that cause the bias to be so far off?
I had a AVR-x2200w that did the same. Right when it would say “main zone on” it would switch off. I found a manual online and found “protection disable” mode and tried it. It’s been working great for a long time. Although I should probably not run it in that mode being that if something goes wrong I may end up with fried components
@@Shaftydude Press the Power button while pressing "ZONE3 SOURCE" and "STATUS" and "Cursor LEFT" buttons to turn the power on with Protection detection disabled ("Protection Pass" should appear on the display for 5 seconds).
Hello everyone, I'm repairing a Denon AVR-1509 amplifier, I can't find the specifications of the D534 diode anywhere, I know it's an AX52 diode, but what kind of diode is it, what specification, what specification? Please help
I saw you were jumping the pins on the plug while adjusting the BIAS but, I didn't see where the multimeter was hooked up too. Probably a dumb question but I'm still learning. Could you tell me where that was? I assume it was on the channel output terminals
This video should be titled "Denon receivers are junk, don't buy them". I bought a S540BT just over two years ago and this started happening. Apparently, this is super common with these POSs. And this crap thing didn't even put out decent sound.
A real tech is like ihens teeth ! l ran this avr on one channel like a banana ......plug came out and a terrible smell ensured followed by protection warning that isn't going away . What say you sir is it a [denon avr 2000 over driven ,] look for a bbq transistors or ic in the output or chuck it ?
Just in case you knew , the banana plugs that dislodged must have been as you knew , touching while me the big audiophile didn't even turn the balance knob . Funny i tried another Denon avr2700 and it got very hot but no protection mode , l guess mine was from 1992 and abused all it's life . Tnanks for content .
To hell with all of that! I thought this guy was going to show an easy fix. I am NOT about to take my receiver apart and attempt to do anything with it internally because, I'm not a technician and I don't have the testing equipment that's needed, nor the knowledge to do it. I'll take it to a certified repair shop and get an estimate. If it costs too much, then I'll just buy a new one. This guy is obviously a tech geek, a professional who has the experience and the knowledge to repair electronics. It's not for the novice, so I'll leave it to a professional who knows what they're doing. A person can't learn to perform a brain or a heart surgery from watching RU-vid videos! You'll have to go to Med school and study for numerous years to become a medical specialist.
Hi, I have a 4200w with the same issue. I've identified 2 or 3 resistors that have blown, but I'm having trouble working out if the transistors are OK. It seems going red to the middle and black to the outer legs works for every other transistor. Then for the ones between I go black to middle and red to outer and I get a 490 to 620 reading ( same as the others with switched leads) does this mean they're OK and just every other transistor is soldered differently or that every other transistor is broken?
Hello. I have a lg dvd-vhs combo vcr. The first 10-15 minutes show bad. Then it gets better. I tried many different cassettes same problem. I wonder what the problem might be. Sorry google translation
Hey what causes this thing to fail is it not giving proper heat Dissipation or what is federal aid or what is your opinion of Y stereo's fail like this?? Please let me know thank you
Really good explanation. I have the same unit mine seems like everything works well ( video, setting, internet etc) except that is no sound on any of the speakers? By any chance have you encounter something like this issue before? Thanks!!
But once you open up a Denon receiver you open up a can of worms because there are a million and one jacks that you have to disconnect and 30 million screws and you don't have any access to the bottom so you have to take everything out of the case in order to service it just like all the modern receivers these companies have screwed the service techs it's not like the vintage equipment you can open up the bottom and get access to the circuit board all this new stuff you got to rip it completely apart in order to service it and then if you get a service contract with these people they want you to do it for peanuts that's why a lot of technicians don't want to do service contracts with these companies because they want you to do it for next to nothing there and then when people complain that they don't have their equipment back it's because the companies have not sent the parts and the parts have not been made yet and I think it's the technicians fault want to new receiver goes down 9 times out of 10 when you bring it to the technician to be fixed the technician is waiting for the parts and the reason why he's waiting for the parts it's because the company has not produced them yet you tried to tell the customer that and the customer doesn't want to hear it they want their stuff now and then when I usually do with that turn around when I tell them I'll put it back together I'll hand it to you and then you go fight with the company the only thing I can do is order the parts if the parts are not available I have to wait until they are you call up the company and you yell at them don't yell at me yell at them
hello sir how much do you charge for work like that , because were i live(israel) most of the people just buy a new set and not repairing anything . thank you
I think it was failing capacitors that started a parasitic oscillation that cooked the outputs. Its been a couple of years now and have nor heard a peep from the customer.
hello great video , i have similar issue , with X2700h , my reciever working sometimes 1 minute , sometime 30-40min and turn off in protect . When i go in developer mod say “DC” is displayed (DC output of the power amplifier is abnormal. If the power is turned on during this abnormality, protection is activated after around 6 seconds and the power is turned off) is it the same problem ?
Hi @NorCal715 and happy new 2021!! I have a problem with my AVR-S940H and maybe you can help me. Everything work fine except the analog tuner (AM/FM). I tried all of the steps but nothing solve the issue (factory reset, firmware update, reconnect fm/am antenna, unplug/plug speakers, source seletct in Zone2, etc..) The specific problem is.... the automatic serch is in loop, never detect any station (AM/FM), if I put manualy station, I can't ear nothing. No radio station, no static noise, nothing. Im lost, you have any idea? Tks. Btw. I have the service manual but the tuner section is very poor for diagnostics.
Hi. I got a chance to buy used Denon AVR-S930H Receiver (what price worth to buy? I'm worry if Denon won't keep up with Yamaha even with Atmos-DTS-X features. Features are good but more important is sound quality. Should i stick with Yamaha and look for newer models? Will Onkyo do better job too compared to Denon? I heard Denon's are cheaper and less reliable compared to Yamaha and Onkyo. Any opinion? Thanks.
Hotel California! Yeah. Fantastic video. Thank you. I see you are NorCal. Me2. I am looking to purchase the exact same amp on Craigslist. Would you be willing to repair mine please? Ping me and I will contact you for the unit.
I brought Denon avr 1804 receiver not working( red light blinking) I Changed the two regulater icies 7915 and 7815.when the turn on receiver then suddenly come noice and smoke that changed regulater area. Now again red blinking 😔 Want to do.
Were they all plastic ics? If they have a metal tab you have to isolate them from the heatsink. The metal tab is at a different potential than the heatsink.
Hi. I got the same problem on my AVR as well. But after I replace the bad transistors and resisters, the unit stays on for about 5-10 minutes and shut off as DC protection again. And it can work probably after reboot for about 5 minutes again! What will be the potential problems?
Hi, I have blink red light standby for my Denon AVR 4800. I am also in Norcal, but not sure how close to you. Would you be able to take a look at and hopefully fix it for a fee? I like my Denon but this blinking standby light is eating me up.
Try a factory reset. The instructions are in the owners manual in most cases. It is usually "hold 2 or 3 buttons down while plugging it in". You will need to look in the owners manual, or on line, to figure out what buttons to hold down.
I have a x4500 where the subwoofer pre out stays silent because of a lightning strike. Everything else works fine though and device powers on. Any idea on what I could try? I don't want to throw it away quiet yet.
I have a x3400h doing the same thing and would like to know what would a repair like this costs? Im severely disappointed because I don’t use it very much.
my X2400w had this issue last night, and I'm going to attempt the repair based on this guide. For the current configuration at the end across the bias, how are you testing for 8 mv? One probe to ground, and then it looks like you've split the red probe across two alligator clips?
Awesome video. I just got a non working X3300 from my parents who ordered a new AVR. This one is doing the same blinking red light. My results are almost identical to yours. I have 2 transistors that are testing bad as well as 2 of the larger resistors and 2 smaller resistors. I am going to try and order some replacement parts to try to repair this. Where do you order your parts from?
@@norcal715 Thanks for the reply. That is pretty much where my googling lead me as well. Digikey had one of the transistors but the other was backordered. Found an ebay seller selling both transistors together like you said. Thanks again for posting this how-to as I would never have known where to start.
@@norcal715 I just retested the transistors again and noticed that the one in the middle, the smaller one, is not testing within spec and will probably just need to replace that one as well while im at it. I am not able to find that particular transistor even on Ebay, other than from China. Do you have any direct links for the C3964? Thanks again.

Have a similar problem with a marantz 1504 receiver, stuck in standy, have to bypass stanby for the unit to work, that is what my technician advise me to do as he could not seem to find the fault.
FINALLY I have a s700w with the same symptoms. and the guts look similar enough for me to use this as a guide to troubleshoot. Been looking for info sporadically since last summer, and finally stumbled upon this one. Thanks for the upload!
@@norcal715 HAHAHA wow. I'll be sure to watch it =) What is the PN for the bias? I just opened mine up and the left most channel is fried outs and bias. haven't gotten to pulling it all out and testing the resistors yet as I need to make the space so I can avoid further damages xD Nevermind, I rewatched and found it.
Normally only 2 things would cause this problem. 1st being a defective speaker or damaged speaker wiring, and the 2nd is just a defective component from the factory like a driver or output transistor itself.
You can do an ohm meter check where the speaker wires go into the receiver I just make sure that the ohms are correct. If you have one that's abnormally low it could potentially damage the receiver.
My apologies for asking so many questions as I'm extremely new to this. My current set up is TL1600 polk speaker pack with Dali Alteco C1 as front heights powered by Denon x2400. My reciever started having the above as soon as I connected it with everything and turned it on for the first time. It never worked beyond blinking red light.
Does it really matter if the numbers on last line on transistors like 79 Y, 4N Y are different on replacement transistor..? i found a replacement transistor B2650 15 P instead of D2560 4N Y . Is it Ok to use it?
Hi Norcal. I have a Denon AVRS 930H Receiver. It has same issue that the power light comes on and shuts down the unit in 3-5 seconds. It would be helpful, if you can guide me to repair it. I have good soldering skills and have soldered some stuff before. I am living in India. I imported this unit from US. So I have been using a Stepdown Transformer from 220V to 110V.
check the wiring and speaker first . remove all speakers wire and test. second check all power transistors and resistors as shown in this video. do not forget to set proper bias after replacement this video is excellent as all steps are covered.
