Finally, somebody does a video on the 6800. literally no one at CEDIA with a big RU-vid channel is talking about the AVR X6800H. I feel like all I heard about was the MarVR gen 2, it’s like all of these other home theater channels have turned into Shane Lee and don’t talk about products that I might actually buy.
There was no Information, that the 6800 was shown in a separate room outside the Show. Also our german masimo Team didn't know this. Bad communication by masimo.
When the 6700 came out in 2020 it was listed for $2500.USD,as more people was staying home Denon raised the price to $2900.USD.Thankfully you nowcan get the 6700 for $2000. The 6800 is listed for $3500.USD why has Denon raised the price on a 11.4 AVR and why itis that we can't get the Silver finish of these Denon AVRs here in the USA.
Once/if ART is available, I’ll likely get this over the Marantz AV10 based on price. I’ve had Dirac and Audyssey MQX. I like MQX vs Dirac Live but ART is another level
Glad you asked about Dirac ART/Bass Control potential upgrades. Im on the fence with the AV10 and wanted confirmation its coming...sadly it doesnt seem like its a done deal that it will be added.
I did read somewhere that it was leaked. Denon has been beta testing dirac art firmware upgrade. They can't say anything concrete until October when Storm Audio's exclusive use of art has ended.
@@michaeloconnor9465 oooh that’s nice and spicy! Would be great to see older models get a boost. Would inspire allot of confidence in the brand, and reduce Fomo anxiety around waiting for the next feature.
Gene, why is it whenever I’m looking for information, your videos always pop up. Been watching you for years, the Star Trek cutout days. Keep making informative content. Thanks
I bought the 6700h in Jan this year returned it it had a heating problem and can cook and egg.. Purchased the 6800H on 2/6 from Bestbuy..it works great with my 9.2 Klipsch speaker system and my Sony 85 950G.. Hope it last.. 😊😊😊
I am glad to see the X6800H will get Dirac art. My only grip is when you move into this price category, shouldn't we have upgraded Dac chips over and above the cheaper models. Sony 360 audio, to use you have to plug a different device in like Apple TV or Chrome. Why won't it work from your blu ray player or sat tv box. That part seemed a bit confusing.
The supposed lack of upgraded DAC's for the increased price, if true, is disappointing. Denon/Marantz REALLY downgraded the DAC's in these things to practically bargain basement models when they moved away from AKM chips. Even though AKM is out with improved DAC's.
@@dan_hitchman007 I always notice Audioholics are very silent on these posts and seem to be in love with anything Denon and Marantz do. No little Audioholics love icon on any critical posts.
kinda dissapointed you didn't ask for the specifications on the DAC chip. Hopefully it had a Sabre DAC like his big brother. but it probably has the same TI dac found in the lower models
I've been waiting for this and will buy this. one complaint: I like to listen to music over HDMI while watching football. currently there are workarounds to do this, but why can't we select audio from one HDMI source and video from another?
Hi Gene and Everyone... question, What receiver should I buy? The Denon AVR-X8500HA OR Denon AVR-X6800H??? The reason I ask is because it looks like the x8500HA just got a 25% off promo on several big box websites. I planned on the x6800h, but it seems like a deal to just get the 'better' receiver with the discount. Thanks for any feedback!!!
It's Finally Here ( 6800!) I was Really Wondering If They Was Going Make A 6800 @ All For A Minute! Hey Gene, Is It Ideal To Connect All My Devices To My Avr Or TV These Days??? I'm Talking Avr's Like This 1 And The Latest TV's 📺 , Like The Samsung S95C The Sony A95L And Or LG G3 Ect.Ect???
Ok so is the Sony 360 reality audio (which is I’m assuming is just for music) not the same as 360 spatial sound mapping (which creates an immersive sound field for movies) in the Sony 7000es receiver? Shane Lee has a video demo of it for that receiver. That’s also the thing that Andrew Robinson loves about the Sony. Just trying to clarify. Sony doesn’t have Auro 3d so that’s why I am holding out for this. Also I would love to know if this receiver has a newer DAC than the the x3800/4800. Ess sabre maybe? Thanks
Sony is making a big play for format dominance. They own a huge catalogue of movies with Sony pictures, their own studios, and they have been developing a higher resolution streaming protocol to get blueray like streaming into people’s homes. Like a mass market Kaleidescape. The audio is just a piece of this jigantic puzzle. And lets not forget that SPDiF stands for Sony-Philips… so Sony we’ll remembers their past success with setting standards in the CD era.
Don't hold your breath on better dacs with Denon. The same dacs in a £1000 unit and a £3500 unit. Denon let themselves down on that. When I am spending over £3000 I expect upgraded dacs over the lower models. This year the all models get the same sound processor chip. There is no upgraded chip for more expensive models. Another disappointment.
When I bought my Denon 8500 HA, I was shocked that I couldn't play my movies with my "Thumb Drive" plugged into the 8500HA. Wow !!!!! I hope there is a update for that !!!!
Here here, it would be great if usb ports were fully featured computer like experiences. It is kind of asking allot to have it be a computer too, I think avr’s are like asics not designed to run user software or 3rd party peripherals. Maybe the answer is to get another little media center PC there’s lots of mini PC’s for enthusiast tinkerers that would probably scratch the itch of wanting more from the USB ports.
Are you seeing any issues with eARC audio dropouts or the video out just stopping until a power cycle? I already tried a good quality HDMI 2.1 cable at half the length and no change. Mine has been worse since the factory reset. It was only doing it when changing inputs like three times but a few times (like every evening) now just watching a show on the Apple TV and the video will just cut out. I have to power the AVR off and then it is good for a time. The eARC audio dropout is easy to check but with the dead video out put, it could be days with no issue. They want to point to the cables and then the TV but come on, I can re-connect the X6500H and both issues that I never had before are gone. Seems like their new all HDMI 2.1 board has issues but I thought it was the same board used in some of the other Denon AVRs from the last year. They are now wanting me to send it in for service. :( Adding to the frustration, I've got the Dirac license that needs to be returned by February 11th. I still can't get them to tell me if I can use it before getting a refund or not. I got the license, mic and the stand and do not want to be stuck with them.
It would be cool if DAC names had a bit more individual character. I have several things with ESS Sabre 90##, when I really want them to be called the ESS Sabre DragonZord and ESS Sabre Muffin.
Thank you Gene, great and informative video. When will the HDMI Diagnostic video come out? Love to learn more about that feature, please advise!! Thanks in advance!
Thank you for this informative interview 👍 Will Dirac Live licence be included like with the Onkyo RZ50? Or does it have to be purchased additionally/separately like it is with the X4800H? Thanks.
Love to see that it has Auro 3D. I have only ever used the upmixer on my Marantz 7015 and does so much for 5.1 tracks (most movies). Waiting to see the companion Marantz model to replace the 8015.
No news as of 11/29/23... I'm waiting for this as well with all the 6800 upgrades + (hopefully) better Dac's AND the awesome backlit remote.. somehow the white button/black letter backlit remotes (Denon) are harder to read than the black button/white letter remotes (Marantz & Premium Sony TV's ) for me anyway.
Not always clear which features are specific to the 6800 and which are new for the x800 series. I might be better off with the 4800, but a little hard to tell without a direct comparison. FWIW, I prefer Denon's form factor, though like the Sony their front-end is looking a little dated. Good on them for spending time on the OSD -- I agree that's higher priority. I also appreciate the willingness to incorporate as many sound and video formats as they can -- it's important to be agnostic when the product is a fancy switch. Inclusion of Dirac was a pretty important move this gen for them, even if pricey. I think I'm giving more points for SSM than four subs as a standout feature, though choice is great in the market. Seems like the first company to crack both room correction and speaker placement correction at a consumer price point is going to rule a generation, bwtfdik.
@BornIn82 I have the 6700, but the new 6800 seems to have a couple of features that are not on the 4800 and lower. Will the features be added via firmware update. You have sony 360 audio. Is that via software? Will the 4800 down have it. It wasn't very clear in the video. That is why is why I said it is confusing.
Why no fast media switching or whatever the heck it's called? They really need to start marking these like HDMI 2.1-. If there's a dash on the end, it means you need to check and see what chunks of the HDMI 2.1 spec does your HDMI 2.1 device not support? This is getting old. Like the first 4K AVRs that didn't support 4K 120. It's just crazy that these very expensive HDMI switches always seem to be bad at HDMI switching. The solution? Plug your device directly into your TV and don't use the AVR.
When Audyssey give up or there 6m/20ms goal between speakers and Subwoofer distances ? Gene and Phil is time to change that. Dirac have 50ms distance calculation. Some living rooms are bigger over the time. Will be great opportunity for Denon/ Marantz Av-products go to 50ms / 60ms distance Calculation at Audyssey there. Nice Video.
I've been lusting after a new Denon receiver but the 6800H and even the 2800H are way out of my price ballpark. Can the average person really hear a difference between the 2800H and the AVR-970H? I would love to see a blind test.
When will Denon address the insufficient maximum speaker distance difference in their AVRs? Any one speaker cannot be more than 6 meters away from the closest speaker, and this often prevents proper subwoofer integration. Denon should focus on fixing issues like this that actually affect the sound.
I don't spend a cent anymore, streaming is shitting on the sound of movies and the only real sound we had were the DVDs. I wanted to rent transformers in the red box machine and it turns out that only Paramount + has it
Bluray still offering the best audio available, outside of a kaleidescape. But don’t worry, streaming will catch up soon. It’s inevitable, and thanks to competitive profit incentives, we get to experience innovation!
A big question I was wondering is, with the GUI redesign, are format-specific settings still hidden unless source material in that format is being processed by the AVR?
Wow. Shut up and take my money. I own a denon 4806ci and was looking for a new receiver for the past 5 years and now I may settle with this one. Based on what I have read through out the forums, they seem to have read all customers complaints and desires and squeezed those inside this machine.
Ah , this still is midrange class and why Denon didn't release 8500HA upgrade with yet decent price , couse A1H is f...... expensive and not everyone need those 15 channels amplif.
Folks If audyssey is zero db on referente levels and Dirac is 6db louder, How can I know when be in reference volume? 😮😮😮 -6db of Dirac is 0db on audyssey? Dont get it
Hi Audioholics, when will AV receivers get a proper high res screens with touch control. all the cameras these days got them. my thinking is that its the next big step in function and ease of use. imagine an 8 inch nice FHD screen in the front! swipe swipe swipe...
Hello, I dont know what upgrade from x2600 should I do, I have issue with underpowered music stereo listening. X4800 or X6700 for 5.1 setup? They have similar prices now and X6800 isnt available so far… thx a lot
Why would you need that many HDMI inputs? I could see needing 2.. one for your video source and one for a gaming console.. maybe a third . But why would you need so many ?
I use 4 and that's only because my pc is straight to the TV. I also use two hdmi outs, for the two Tv's in the room. Don't compare your setup to others.
My amplifier was a Marantz SR 7013 it blew up banging all the speakers one night when I was watching a video I tried for places to get it repaired and the last place I went to you he told me I cannot get the parts for this anymore my amplifier was four years old it's NOW GONE TO THE JUNK YARD IN THE SKY A warning to you all out there if anything goes wrong you cannot get the parts for these amplifiers impossible and you can't trust secondhand parts I am no without an amplifier and the prices are too high colossal beyond my pocket that's the way life is now you'd expect a number for the last 10 years no it doesn't that's it
It's frustrating that Amazon's Chromecast app doesn't support 360 reality audio and neither does the Heos board. Half of Amazon's spatial tracks are 360 and you can't play them in surround sound.
So denon, Sony, marantz all Have new amps but nothing from Yamaha at all. But yet I cannot find any of there yamaha amps in the uk. Poor show from them.
And here i was worried that my Avr 6700h was going to look like a dinosaur. Will there be updates possible to the 6700h for those of us that already paid over 3000 dollars for our units?
@demonreturns4336 adding the Sony surround and possibly Dirac. The menu options they said that improved weren't even an issue for set up on the 6700h, so that is a non-issue for me.
@@kstofkos it’s kind of an irrational preference, but for me I absolutely love that they changed it from speakers “large” to “full range”. Even though it’s functionally the same, it brings me so much satisfaction that it’s named correctly. All the little Gui optimizations really mean allot to me. Especially putting the crossover options there with full range on the same page, mmmm mmmmmmmmm! That’s good!
The sound of the X6700 was so much worse than a Yamaha RX-A6A or A8A that I don't think the X6800 can now come close to the Yamahas. The Denons remain the poorly manufactured feature AVRs and the Yamaha remain the good-sounding massively processed AVRs
This receiver is totally over kill for basically 99% of the people!!! Buy the receiver that really fits you and what you really use your receiver for!!!
It could have had 8 hdmi inputs instead from the sound of it 😂 Some fully balanced xlr outputs would be great too. Not overkill. 24 XLRs might be overkill for most.
I just ordered a X4800H today, since I don't need 11 channels of amplification. Got an external amp for LCR. The rest doesn't need that much juice. Got a great deal on it for €1329 (about 1420 USD). Saves me a lot of money not waiting for the X6800H.
At this point most AVRs are completely overloaded with superfluous and/or poorly implemented features that is quickly forgotten, never used or simply turned off because they add no value, degrade sound quality and clutter up the user interface.
I felt these revisions and optimizations showed allot of care and consideration in that department. So very refreshing to see generational uplift on those typically stale iteratively identical things. It really shows that the team at Denon is flowing and has the agility to deliver on the software side. I suspect the receiver industry has more going on than we see, and it will be exciting to see the competition wake up to this much needed pace of innovation and user experience optimization. Just the other day I left an old box of triscuits next to my receiver, and the two just blended in so well I didn’t even notice. :P
