Seven years later your video is still delivering great value! I had done this fix before but had totally forgotten what I did. The problem came back recently so this was a fantastic refresher. You sure know your stuff! Lots of great tips. The top about tray position at reassembly time is great to know. I can't wait to see if my Denon DCD-3000 is actually a Sanyo! Thanks for the fantastic video.

I just purchased this unit from an estate sale. It had the exact same issue. With the help of your video I just fixed it. Now it's running like new. Thank you so much for posting videos like this. With the guidance of this video I was able to save me some $$$ & get the satisfaction of doing it myself. Cheers!

Thanks. That is the point in these videos. Also why I try to use common tools, not fancy lab grade, or professional shop tools. The type that the average hobbyist might have. I spent the past 35 years repairing equipment, 20 of those years I did it for a living, and today it is just for the satisfaction of keeping the old technology working. Most of this stuff is pretty simple, and with a little help many have fixed their own stuff.

btw, Thank you for this. I have the same old denon player and it had the same exact issue. It's back to working well again. The issue of the tray going out and right back in actually started like 20 years ago, lol, but it only stopped reading discs recently. It's great to have it back in good order, since it's a classic player and hard to replace.

Many thanks for the good explanation! I had the same 'tray opens and immediately closes' issue with my Rotel RCD06 (which is actually a Sony KSS 213-CL). The assembly of the Rotel is a bit different from the Denon in your video, but the principles are the same (interestingly the Rotel drive has two mechanical switches instead of one; maybe one for detecting the open position and one for detecting the close position?). I used your instructions to fix my CD player and now the tray opens/closes and stays in the required position as it should. I am very happy I can safely drop a CD in the tray again, as with this problem I horrendously scratched one of my favourite Miles Davis CDs (Bitches Brew). From the money I saved by not buying a new CD player or having it fixed it at a shop I will replace the Bitches Brew CD ;-) Thanks!!!

Thank you very much for this very informative, and enlightening demonstration video, 12voltvids! Maybe that problem is what is not happening with this AMC CD-6 CD Player (of 1992) I bought that's in very good condition, but it won't eject the CD Tray! That open, and quick close operation only happened to me a couple of times; the Denon DN-600F CD Player I bought used works well, built like a tank. I very recently made a mistake about buying an AMC CD-6 CD Player from ebay seller that does not know about hi fi audio, or electronics. I bought an AMC CD-6 (of 1992) that looks in very good condition; but does not work! Wasted money, and work setting it up, opening up the case, the CD Tray could be broken! However, lately I bought a Denon DN-600F CD Player (of 1998) that looks beaten up; scratched, flanges are sawed off, those 2 machine screws on each of the two sides are missing, top front is taped down with a red tape, and a bit dirty, but it plays back a CD very well! Furthermore, Functions function, too. By the way, it's good you mentioned about static electricity; I was wondering about that topic. I wore an anti-static wrist strap when I upgraded my personal computer. Finally, I may be able to repair this AMC CD-6 Tray eject problem that's a reject; but I'll get an experienced, expert technician to make the repair. By way, don't you have to be careful of the light from any laser lens assembly?🔉🎵🎶

I once bought a Denon CD-R-W1500 and there wasn’t allot wrong with it so I decided to see if I could use its CD-R Drive as it did have a few problems but mainly fixed, and had like the jog wheel button missing. It looked as if it was dropped but still works fine. Anyway I tried it’s drive in my slightly faulty Marantz CD Recorder only to then realise it didn’t really fit. So I ordered one from Instrumental Parts in the US. As I’m from the UK so had a job to get one. I replaced its old drive and managed to successfully fix it. Now I have my Denon one with a stuck drive but couldn’t find its switch to re-open it. Is it in the same place as this one or somewhere else? As this one looks otherwise the same sort of drive. Thanks for the help I’ll give it another go sometime and may sell it in future due to being happy with my, portable CD Recorder which is a Superscope PSD340. I discovered the Denon drive is slightly too high but with the right numbered model of drive it is excellent!! I even recorded a CD for my Sister and Brother in Law.

I have a Pioneer DV-530 in my bedroom and it has the exact problem like your Denon. Every time I press the eject button, the disc tray opens but won't stay open and retracts at the end. I don't have a chance to insert the disc. Sometimes if I give a pull on the tray when it opens and reaches the end, it will stops and stays open. Very strange! I have no electronics knowledge but thinks if there is a transistor controlling its movement? After I watch your video, it gives me a clue that maybe Pioneer DV-530 has a similar switch causing the same problem.

Has anyone ever done a video for a Denon CDR-W1500 on how to fix the draws on that? Would the switch be located in the same or similar place or are they all different? As I did find some don’t fit others and I tried it in a Marantz CDR340 which didn’t fix and I live in the UK so I ordered one from Instrumental Parts in the US. I then was able to fix that one and even got it working with the front panel back on the CD-R drawer. But I gave up on the Denon Recorder I bought due to not seeing the switch anywhere, so it’s now temporarily in our loft in a box. Please feel free to help!!

@12voltvids
@12voltvids 8 лет назад
+Darryl 603 Check out the BOSE 321 system DVD repair. That one wouldn't, open right or close right. It is either a slipping belt, or in the case of a direct drive, one of the gears has a crack, probably on the motor shaft. When people shove the disk tray in as opposed to pressing the open/close button, they stress the plastic gears, and eventually they break.

Didn't almost every pick-up laser used the 3 beam method?, as far as I know the only ones that used the single beam were those Philips/Magnavox that used the swing-arm mechanism.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 8 лет назад
+Gordon Freeman Panasonic / Technics used a single beam. They called it ff1 fine focus 1 Beam.
@GoldSrc_
@GoldSrc_ 8 лет назад
12voltvids You sure?, because I've seen quite a few detectors from various Technics/Panasonic CD players and all of them had an 8 pin detector, 6 pins for A ,B, C, D, E and F and 2 common pins, while Philips ones only had ABCD. In fact, I think I still have the detector from a Technics SL-P116 (that I killed by mistake) which was one of those FF-1 and I think it had an 8 pin detector, it would be a 6 pin one if it only used a single beam, but I can't be sure until I find it.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 8 лет назад
+Gordon Freeman I'm only going by the literature that was in the service manuals at the time. I really didn't care personally one way of the other because from a service perspective all that matters is if the eye pattern is correct. The service literature used to claim that it was a single beam system on some, not all of their designs. I probably still have some of those manuals around here, as I had many of them.
@GoldSrc_
@GoldSrc_ 8 лет назад
12voltvids Well, maybe you have some information that I've never seen, most of the books and magazines I have about CD player theory of operation mention and assume a 3 beam system, I only heard about the single beam like 10 years ago. I don't know which system is better though, but yeah, I agree, that might not be of importance, but I always found CD players amazing devices, the old ones at least, newer stuff was boring to open and not much to adjust, I could spend hours looking at the eye pattern though, for me is a simple yet pretty waveform.
@12voltvids
@12voltvids 8 лет назад
+Gordon Freeman I think that some of the confusion is also that Panasonic used some existing pickup chips that had the side sensors but they weren't connected because they claimed that their digital focus an tracking servo was so accurate that they didn't need them. But they just use off the shelf pickups a if you look at the schematic for the ff1 players the 2 side detectors are n/c to the servo. This kept costs down because some designs did use them. This is not uncommon. I had a beautiful old slp50 I think the model was. Single disk, big vu meters. Broadcast unit. I was offered 600 for it, so I took the money and run.
