Yes, what is up with that? My cousin is a whole 48 about to be 49 and she has been an AKA for a year. She is obssessed. She posts herself in paraphernalia or wearing the colors almost daily. It is so sad to see someone almost 50 so consumed with what started as a totally collegiate organization. Plus, the fact that there is so much info out about it now...it just blows my mind. My mom is a Delta who pledged in the 60s and she said she did not even understand why someone almost half a century would want to be in a sorority. My cousin seems so immature posting constantly about being in a sorority. It is like there is some kind of identity crisis going on. 🤷🏽‍♀️

I have sporadically looked into this a little more to get more understanding. I fell back from birthdays a little bit, not totally to be honest, been thinking about it since last year which is why I looked into some things... - Birthdays were not celebrated by the early church at all since they knew it was pagan. Early church historians have accounted this, and even The World Book Encyclopedia has it noted. I consider how the early church did not compromise on many things; that hits home to me. Sadly, over time compromise has creeped in based on lack of knowledge, deception, and not caring in some cases (not just related to this...I’m speaking generally). - Egyptians celebrated birthdays as their birth “as a god.” (this is very telling spiritually, since today the worship of “self” is very much prevalent. The very core of new age beliefs and practices is “man as a god” played out in many ways, and new age is VERY much in the church today). - In Mesopotamia and Egypt keeping of birthday records was important for astrology and the casting of horoscopes (witchcraft). - It is thought the celebration of birthdays spread into Europe beginning with the cult of Mithras (a part of Zoroastrianism) which originated in Persia but was spread by soldiers throughout the Roman Empire. Mithraism is then tied to the December 25th Christmas celebration. - The ancient Greeks believed that each person had a spirit that attended his or her birth, and kept watch. That “spirit “ had a mystic relation with the god on whose birthday the individual was born. As for blowing out candles, the candles were a response to evil spirits... it was considered “a light in the darkness. ” SMH - Birthday cakes originally came from the Greeks who baked moon-shaped cakes offered up to Artemis, goddess of the moon. They were decorated with lit candles to make the cakes shine like the moon. Later the cakes were adopted by the Romans (no surprise there), then in the 18th century the Germans turned it into what people do with birthday cakes today. It all ties together and makes a lot of sense to what you shared, since you can go back and see how the devil worked to infiltrate any and all true faith in The True and Living God from the very beginning of time. And there is the twisting of true Biblical Christianity by way of many things from the pagan Catholic church (which is what most protestant churches still pattern after), other false sects that rose up after the Apostles died like Gnosticism, as well as other “mystery” new age and occult religions. Definitely thankful for life Elohim has mercifully granted every single day. All that other stuff though...uggh😞😑
