Hey Y’all! I’m back and this time we are going over the questions that were asked in my dental hygiene school interview.
01:33- Question 1
1. You are confirming appointments for tomorrow and a patient doesn’t answer to confirm, so you replace them with a patient you know who will come in. The next day both patients show up for the same appointment. How do you handle this situation?

2. What characteristics are important to have as a Dental Hygienist?

4. Why did you want to pursue Dental Hygiene?

5. When have you made a big mistake and what did you do to recover from it/ How did you handle it?

6. What have you done to prepare for Dental Hygiene School?
We had 6 individual interviews with different professors and we had 5 minute to answer the question. They really wanted you to elaborate as much as possible using as much of the 5 minutes as you could. I’m honestly super long winded and take forever to say anything so i did a good job on elaborating and using my time, but a couple of the questions really got me. Also y’all keep in mind, relax and be professional all they want to see is your personality and ability to make real world connections to the questions they’re asking. I cannot wait I've been searching and searching to see what I would like and I think I finally found the one and the best one for my area not to mention seeing myself in it for the rest of my life. I do need to shadow just to be sure but I seen video's and I think it's the one for me.

Good luck on your hygiene journey! ☺️ Shadowing is the BEST thing you can do to make sure you really like the profession. Keep in mind, most hygienist make it look easy but you’ll learn everything you need to know in your program👍🏾

Honestly, i loved the way this video was filmed. i learnt so much and laughed loads because your so funny!! had one question though, do you know any questions that are great the ask the interviewer at the end if they ask? THANKS 😊

Thank you sooo much for watching!❤️This is such a good question! When they open the floor for questions I think it is always great to ask: “What characteristics do you see in the most successful students in the program?” I think this question shows some confidence and forward thinking and also gives you a standard to make self comparisons. I also like to ask a personal question just to build some rapport and get to know the interviewer: “What has kept you in the profession for so long?/ What’s your favorite part of Dental Hygiene?” I suggest doing research on laws 🧑‍⚖️ and the scope of the dental hygiene profession in your local area and asking questions about current legislation and advancements in the Dental Hygiene world☺️

Thank you so much! This will be my 3rd year applying again. I hope I will make it this time. I’m from Texas so for program, they do the interview, a 7 minute essay and a psychomotor skills test. Did they do that for you in your state?

No worries😌 Im so proud of you going for it again, seriously these programs can be competitive but consistency is key! I didn’t have that lengthy of a process. I just had to finish my prerequisites, take an HSRT exam and do an interview. Our program accepted us based on a point system so the points you were awarded during the application process determined whether or not you were selected for an interview. We didn’t have a psychomotor skills test and we didn’t have to write and essay. Good Luck 🍀 You’ve got this☺️

Thank you for the interview tips😊last year I was asked which challenges you might face if you got a place at our university. Do you think what is the best answer to this question?( I was rejected last year but I’ve got an interview from them again😬)

Congratulations on getting an interview and not giving up! ☺️ So, it sounds like this is another way of them asking the dreaded question “what’s your biggest weakness?” With this question you have to be real, but you also have to be strategic😳 Think of something you actually struggle with & how it may have hindered you in the past, but explain you’re current methods of rehabilitation for the issue. Let’s be honest your last sentence is the perfect answer to this question😉 I know it was a “challenge” to get that rejection last year but here you are again with an extra year of courage🥹 There is no way they can’t choose you this time❤️ Good luck 🍀 I can’t wait to hear about you acceptance😁

if you don't mind me asking, did they give you a reason why you weren't accepted? I wish you so much luck this year! I have an interview and I'm extremely nervous. It's very competitive here and they likely will only pick 5-6 people in my area.

Hi there!I applied to University of Essex and one of the questions they asked me was about the scope of dental hygiene.What would be the preferable answer for that from your opinion?

Woooow I’m so sorry for missing your question. My apologies friend😞This is actually a very difficult and specific question. It’s also a very good question. I think when they’re asking about the “scope” of dental hygiene, they’re asking what are the current practices for the profession. And to be quite honest with you that’s very different state by state here in the US. I am sure it is different in each region in England as well. I would go to your local dental hygiene association website and read about the laws and the practices you’re able to do with a dental hygiene license in your area. In the US we have the American Dental Hygienists Association and their website has a section on the scope of dental hygiene. For example in 48 out of 50 US states dental hygienist are able to provide anesthesia for patients, but not in the state of Texas where I live. So the scope of dental hygiene in Texas is much more strict as we are not legally allowed to administer anesthesia. I hope that makes sense if not let me know and I’ll send you some other info that might help you. ☺️

Hi! Im so excited for you! Definitely wear a nice professional outfit. A cute suit or even a nice pair slacks and a professional blouse. Wear something comfortable, professional and cute! If you haven’t get familiar with the program and the faculty on the school website. Think about any question you may have and write them down. Also realize you got the interview so there is something they see in you, you’ve got this! Be yourself and take the time to think about your responses☺️ Good Luck🍀
