My dentist of several years retired, great dentist. The replacement, a young gal and not good. She said I had two cavities and needed two crowns and gum disease! Always had good check ups and was a simple cleaning. I went to another dentist and surprise, surprise NOTHING was wrong with my teeth. This was at one of those corporate dental places with lots of offices all over. 🤬
Great interview about dentists taking good teeth out from patients; I am a victim of this issue. This year in February 2022, I visited a dentist in South Dallas. I will not mention the clinic for now; the dentist suggested I take 7 upper molars, and he said that a denture would be perfect for me. As of today, almost 8 months, I have not been able to get used to the full upper denture, and I can't eat what I used to when I used partials. I went into that dentist's office to fix my partials and insisted he convinced me to get a complete upper denture, a big irreversible mistake. One last thing I want to share is that I have lost significant weight or 25 lbs. This, to me, is not fair, and I don't know what to do because I have gone to get quotes on doing transplants, and the cost is outrageous
Sadly you are not alone. I am a victim of a most incompetent dentist I ever encountered. He pulled out 5 front perfectly fine teeth to put 4 implants. He promised me long term success while he put me a prothesis that suppose to last 2 months. But for healing I had to wait 1 year to heal. I end up having blood infection. Now is hiding ,he blocked me on Instagram and Facebook while is still working and aggressively advertise himself. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3AcL0UxAkqc.html
All this is great info. The one thing no one discusses is how the hell do you find a decent and reputable dentist/periodontist? It's not like they're graded. If it wasn't for all the follow appts I wouldn't mind driving 1500 miles to get a procedure. I live in Yuma AZ.
People need to know and a patient can do everything the dentist tells them to do and theres no recourse so what can you do to make a dentist accountable for his crap work
The VA extracted a 30 year Olds teeth, his entire mouth. Now at 35 he is sitting there with no teeth, no dentures. He was not informed of how this would turn out.
I am currently going through this process. I had failing teeth, crowns breaking and needed all teeth extracted. All my crowns had decay under them, and one back upper molar crown had such bad infection under the crown it went deep into my jaw bone! My Prosthodontist was a bit shocked, and the crown was probably 7 years old. I wish there was more education out there about how bad crown really are. There is nothing to stop decay from happening under crowns and they can’t catch it. As patients we should be worried because I could have easily gone sepsis. I spent 20k on crowns to restore my mouth and they began to fail a month later. Crowns are only meant to last ten years max anyway. So realistically it that in half. Now I have no teeth and regular dentures as I heal. And I’m set up for snap on dentures but I went from having teeth to this. I’ve been in a liquid diet and severely depressed since my surgery. I just don’t wear the dentures they are awful. I’m glad these docs are talking about this stuff as I didn’t know about the all on 4. I have perfect bone and my healing is amazingly good. So I can go either way.
Please next time use a soft color background it will help US to watch you because the brightness of your office, and thank you for such outstanding information and professionalism that you dentist, have with your patience’s.
Thank you for sharing your father’s story. My situation is exactly the same. I chose to go all on 4. Got 2nd & 3rd opinions on how to fix them up. I do miss my good natural teeth, but no more pain. 2 months in my temps, 4 months until my finals.
When you chew on one side, all the pressure rests on that single implant which has little surface contact with your jaw. There is no ligament in between to absorb the impact either. The bone cells in between the implant grooves will be damaged and have no time to heal and the insult accumulates. When it fails the other implants follow in no time. They don't apply simple physics and blame you for chewing hard stuffs. I have not encounter an ethical dentist yet.
My prosthodontist recommended removing all my lower teeth due to bone loss. I have a bridge on one side, and my wisdom teeth are gone, otherwise my teeth are healthy. I do have gum recession, but still… i’m in my early fifties, and I think having 14 healthy teeth removed sounds a bit radical. I am also a physician. Any thoughts appreciated
This is exactly what I am worried about from clearchoice. See I have the nerve slighly infected in 3 teeth & they want to pull them all up top. It seems stupid why not pull and bone graft. Even with all on 4 why don't you bone graft every tooth pulled. which is freaking me out. I had to have some bone removal and he cut my gums the Periodonist & my gums don't meet with the top of crown. I have a little infection and a few loose teeth up top. Not all are bad.
I appreciate that you and your colleague have stepped forward to state that there are unethical dentists out there that just in the business of making money or dentists that want to do the work and think that just reading a Reader's Digest version of instructions will be enough for the procedure. Knowledge is power and so is a second opinion. That being said could you do a video on the adverse effects of acid from food and especially from the stomach of patients who have acid reflux and how to neutralize that acid in the mouth without brushing your teeth. If I had known how to do that with the 24/7 morning sickness throughout the nine months of my first pregnancy compounded by the acid reflux I might still have a mouth full of teeth. The taste left in your mouth is so bad you have to brush to get it out. I am middle-aged now and if I could go back in time with a better way it would have changed my life. I really miss eating foods that require a lot of chewing. Not just meat but raw vegetables as well. If it would help the younger generation to save the enamel on their permanent teeth it would be worth it, yes?
Im one of the ones that just got tired of chasing problems.Ive had over 30k worth of work done over 7 yrs only for it to start failing again and the root canal retreatments cost alot more because of a specialist needed which is why i chose to go with an all on 4 but got 6 for my upper arch. The biggest thing i did was research and then ask questions. Im into month 3 of healing and although my temporary teeth suck since theyre bigger i know ill be much happier after its all said and done. Plus it will take care of a huge front tooth gap from poorly designed crowns from previous work that they said adds "character" pffft Switched dentists after that one but still chased issues. My surgeon explained all the ins and outs and went over everything even though i havent followed his directions precisely i finally feel solid and no background pain from teeth to deal with everyday which is a blessing that you dont know until you do
@@Mr-hn2bp Yeah thats been the hardest part is waiting to eat how i usually do but it feels like its getting more solid by the day and once i get into my final zirconias i think ill be where i was. Oral hygiene is more thorough just to get the stuff out of between the gums. Another benefit that i might be imagining is i havent gotten sick like i usually do from sinuses when it gets cold but the season is young
I have seen 3 dentists so far for a small cavity and they won't fill it. Either implant or crown. There are videos on biomimetic where the doctor won't even do root canal when half of the crown of the tooth is gone. He didn't even drill, just disinfected and fill it and keep as much tooth as possible. They even lied to me to get me to come in.
I have bad teeth a lot of them have decayed, wanted a gameplan to fix them, crowns fillings etc. Was told i needed dentures. Going to get a 2nd opinion on this. I have like 14-16 teeth that wld need pulled if this is true wtf 😒
but if the person doing the root canal doesnt get all of it then the specialist required to go back in defeats the monetary value just doing an implant in the first place ie me 30k wasted on failed root canals and crowns unfortunately
@@bads9212 when you implant fails because of inlamation, gum disease, etc, and then you have no bone left for anything but a denture or a bridge like myself then what good was the implant? I have been milking a failed implant for years because i was a poor candidate for an implant to begin with. If you have gum disease you have no business getting an implant but dentist don't seem to care and will recommend them over keeping a root canal. Its all about profits not health.
@@bads9212 i have some root canals that have lasted almost 20 years others were like yours and had to be redone. The question is how long do you want to have a solid foundation of natural structure because implants are nothing in contrast to natural teeth structurally so if you can make it most of your life with natural teeth with root canals and crowns you will have a better outcome than going to implants. Implants fail and if you do your homework you will see there is a lot of implant failures due to gum disease which leads to bone loss and eventually implant failure. Implant failure leaves less options than root canals for longevity. The reason most people get implants is because of poor hygiene, tooth decay, and gum disease and gum disease will insure early implant failure.
@@GregariousAntithesis all i can say on that matter is in the beginning im sure i had gum disease because i wanst shown how to brush properly but once i had a clue i did everything possible to fight my teeth issues and none of it stopped what was happening. i have a 200 dollar toothbrush and a 100 dollar waterpick plus floss picks and even after spending what i did on fixing what i had its failing still. Every tooth in my mouth was "fixed" and yet here i am redoing it
Oldest dentist talks about is all on for a denture or 1 million procedures on the teeth. Why do you not ever mention all on eight implant bridge with 3 bridges per archwith no fake gum???
Appreciate the informative videos, learning a lot (considering implants currently). It seems ridiculous we have to study so much but I guess you also need to do the same when your car goes to the mechanic or you have medical surgery, work on your house etc. I just expect better at a dentist or doctors. Hope that my new dentist can be as transparent and professional as you guys. My question is: If a procedure or a service isn't up to standard what kind of recourse are people able to pursue? Obviously you're accepting some risk - but poor decisions and poor/no advice can lead to bad consequences. Is it all just very subjective like you say and it's just a case of trust or crossing your fingers?
I hate to say it but its so hard to find a good dentist or physician. how do you know if you're going to get good work done? its tough to know and I'm an insider on the industry. but for recourse, if you were botched, you can always contact your state dental board. they're your best option.
I was not able to fully eat with my Temps. I am in the last healing process to get my final snap in dentures by the end of this month. I think a huge problem is, that dentist do not explain how long this process is, how the Temps are pretty much gonna suck. And that your bone and gums take a very long time to heal and get used to the pressure of dentures. It has been almost 2 years for me. And I am in the last 30 day stretch, yet I know it will be longer, because I have to completely heal again, I have to learn to talk in the new denture, I have to give myself time to learn how to eat real food again. And yes wheight is a big issue. As in dropping it constantly. I would like to say I am no longer in pain but that should end soon. Now it is only when a procedure has to be done.
Great video once again. Sounds like the Auto Mechanic industry? Everyones always playing games. What they fail to understand is Karma. They may get away with it for awhile, but eventually they will lose their A$$es .....It always catches up to con artists........... ALWAYS
i'd like to tell you that i'd like to give people the benefit of the doubt. but ther'es a lot of different dentists out there. some sketchy, some ignorant, some really good ones. just like every other industry out there.
I hope you can answer my question. I recently visit the dentist due to having a top chipped molar. They want to extract that and do a bone graft. I am also missing two bottom premolars and they suggested to remove my bottom wisdom teeth as they are particulate covered by my cheek. Dr. Mention my gum can get infected since I’m unable to brush behind the wisdom teeth. I don’t know if it’s a good idea to remove the bottom wisdom since they do not bother me and I’m missing those premolars? Hope you can guide me.
You should make a video, showing the differences between a healthy tooth and a bad tooth. Decay or gum disease etc reasons for implants or all in 4. My teeth were horrible after years of drug abuse. 7 years clean every other tooth was broken or decaying so I had all in 4 done top and bottom. Seemed to be my best option as I was missing 9 teeth and the enamel was gone decaying and gum disease setting in. But I was never told any other options so i was under the assumption there was none. 50k later here I am 2 weeks in. So far so good.
I’m curious if a root canal I had done on my top back tooth could cause pain in my neck and jaw if it’s infected. The tooth feels weird when chewing but I have also been having other digestive issues since having the root canal about 6 months ago. Please let me know your thoughts.
Consider asking your doc (?) to hold ice water in your mouth three times a day for fifteen minutes (ten seconds spit intervals). It takes a little practice. It hurts until numb. Do it the rest of your life. All kinds of garbage in our food supply. Smell a dog's mouth. Nerve damage during surgery is another matter, people have come back from plane crashes. It can be done with attitude over time I am told.
My DDS is doing the whole job, extractions to snap ins???? My teeth are super sensitive to hot, cold and room temp. Painful cleanings, three missing molars and so sensitive I can't use any whitening system. Brushing my teeth hurt not to mention the loose teeth. Not cosmetically nice at all but I have some teeth that are fine. I could do repair work, bridges. Root canals and crowns and still spend a ton of money and have to get dentures in the end????? So confused!!!
Hello Dr. Thank you for your channel. I would be thankful for your thoughts. My 11yr old daughter has a lower left missing adult premolar (hypodontia) and an upper right adult premolar that seems to have stopped developing roots. Unfortunately both of the baby teeth for those teeth have been extracted about a month and a half ago. One of the primary teeth was extracted because an adjacent adult was stuck underneath it absorbing half of the root. The other had decay, but I asked if the tooth could be saved first in case the adult tooth never develops. I asked to take an x-ray first to confirm before extracting which they said they would to confirm the tooth was not savable. What he ended up doing was extracting the tooth with out taking any x-rays and not mentioning anything to me about it. I was so upset and could not believe they told me one thing and did another. I've been told on the lower left missing adult tooth she already has a narrow bone structure. For the the upper adult premolar that may or may not ever erupt, I'm just praying for it continue to develop, but at 11yrs, it is the only adult tooth left that has not progressed towards erupting. As she is too young to get implants, I wanted to ask if you have ever worked on patients who had a similar age/situation as my daughter in regards to planning and eventually getting implants. Should we consider protracting the teeth to fill in the gaps vs prepare for an implant? For children who have missing adult teeth at an early age, is it best to try and protract the teeth to avoid implants as most likely, they will not be good candidates in the future for implants, or have you treated those with the same circumstances and had successful treatments done. If it was your child, may I know what you would be doing now? What were the challenges, successes, complications if any, outcome and longevity? As I would imagine being so young and not having adult teeth would mean poor to no development of proper bone structure, they may not have much to work with. One Orthodontist, mentioned to put mini-implants now so that whatever bone structure she has can be maintained, but what about the upper adult that appears to no longer be developing? Is there a time we should give up on that tooth and have it extracted or keep maintaining the space in hopes that at some point it will come out? I'm so sad for my daughter and now sure what to do at this point as she is too young. I'm worried about continued bone loss, teeth tipping, gum sagging, etc. I would appreciate your thoughts.
Hello Dr. I didn't get any of the cons from the dentist that did my 7 extractions I feel that he wanted to get 180 dollars X 7 because that's how much I was charged and I didn't mind the charge, the issue was and is that the denture I have not adapted and I hardly eat that is affecting my daily life and it's bad. Anyhow one thing I noticed when I was in the dentist office was that I signed a bunch a papers I am sure whatever I signed is for the dentist to be protected in case we patients want to sue I wish I could because I really didn't get what I wanted.
Clearchoice says its fine that I smoke cannabis or cigarettes while the implants heal, which seems like a lie too, like I said ClearChoice wants 32000, Just for the upper Jaw with a 4 on 3. Should I get 2nd opinion? They said I have excellent gums, but horrible sinuses and teeth on the right hand side of my upper mouth. I am really afraid of bad prothesis. 6 weeks seems to short to go from temporary. They also said I can only eat what I can cut with a fork with the temporary prothesis, which concerns me. I have trouble eating. Is it bad to chase teeth while they fail? to only take out the bad teeth, bone graft, sinus tent, & put permanent implants. thats my problem I have one loose front tooth, the other barely wiggles, but isn't painful. I have gone through 50K of crowns, & only because the first dentist was really bad. He was 2 days out of school, & was introduced as their top Doctor. She lied & he wrecked me. The infection they saw was all the way up above the teeth little black spots. Plus another $16K for just 3 implants on the bottom. all my teeth left on bottom but 2 are good. How can they pull teeth and immediately put in an implant in the same spot without bonegrafting first?
i’m trying ti get the VA to either do implants or send me somewhere to do them, as my dentures are really hard to work with due ti my mouths structure. i’m really struggling.
I lost several teeth on my upper arch due to periodontal disease and had just one upper molar left. I knew that an all on 4 implant was my best option at this point. Three different dentists told me that I should have the all on 4 on my lower arch at the same time. I wound up going to the Malo Clinic in Lisbon Portugal. The doctor there assured me that with proper care, my lower teeth will last me the rest of my life. The cost was 1/3 of what I was quoted here and the care has been phenomenal. They did remove my back two teeth on the lower arch so that they match with the 12 teeth on the upper arch. I can't wait to go back in 4 months to be fitted with my permanent zirconia upper prosthesis.
I tried looking for a video with you guys on financing options but couldn't find one. Do you guys offer financing or am I just not seeing a video on it?
Any major credit card or Care Credit .. honestly, it's simply not realistic to expect a doctor to provide all of the work, follow-up care AND front the money too 🤷♀️
You know what's crazy even in the car repair industry where a lot of the cost can be comparable they still warranty the work they do and if they screw up or something goes wrong they will fix it again you don't get that with dentists
Thing I've learned with dentistry is most of it is kinda like restaurants. The majority are just kinda trying to make money and get people in and out the door and have a pretty low average quality, and a very low bar for what "good" or "healthy" is. And even the very best dental work is still a poor substitute for the real thing. And the worst part, like with all for profit healthcare is there is usually a financial incentive not to focus on prevention or do excellent or even good work, just enough to last a few years and ensure a future visit. This is part of why "white" fillings have become so popular meanwhile the gold fillings that can last a lifetime are rare.
Honestly the CDC should be auditing dental work, the technology exists to document work improperly done. We inspect cars every year. Measuring how much enamel on teeth and estimated size of bacteria colonies and type should be required, not just an impractical good idea. Annoying enough dentists will not even talk to you without an x-ray, just assuming you can afford treatment. No money? Too bad. Got a nice pic of your skull, thank you! Palm face. Sheeple.
