Denver Zoo is an 80-acre (32 ha) zoological garden located in City Park of Denver, Colorado, United States. Founded in 1896, it is owned by the City and County of Denver and funded in part by the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD). It is the most visited paid attraction in the Denver metropolitan area. Denver Zoo is accredited by the (American) Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and is also a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). The zoo achieved ISO 14001 certification in 2009, was given the first AZA Green Award in 2011, and was named the "Greenest Zoo in the Country" at the World Renewable Energy Forum in 2012. In 2015, it was re-certified for ISO 14001 and achieved OHSAS 18001 certification, becoming only the fourth zoo in the world to get both certifications.
Exhibits
Denver Zoo houses species from all over the world, including hoofed mammals, carnivorous mammals, primates, pachyderms, birds, reptiles, and fish. The zoo's animal collection contains 3,500 specimens representing 550 unique species. The zoo is laid out in a large loop, with exhibits both inside and outside the loop. Current exhibits include the following:
Primate Panorama spreads over 7 acres (2.8 ha) and primarily houses apes and other larger primates.
Jewels of the Emerald Forest pavilion is situated near the entrance to Primate Panorama. It features a meandering trail through diorama replicas exhibiting many small primates amongst other rainforest animals.
Monkey Island was built in 1937 with funds from the Works Progress Administration. It was rehabilitated in 1950.
Predator Ridge, completed in 2004 and the first exhibit most visitors encounter, is a large exhibit representing the African savanna.
The Edge is a newly designed exhibit modeled after the pine forests of Russia for the zoo's Amur tigers.
Hoofed mammals are generally housed in the center of the zoo's main circular path.
Giraffe House was created in 1966 and, along with the outdoor giraffe run, houses the zoo's giraffe herd.
Mountain Sheep Habitat was opened in 1979. It contains two natural-style "mountains" housing Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep and mountain goats.
Lorikeet Adventure, the Nurture Trail, and the Avian Propagation Center all opened in 2006.
The Forest Aviary in Primate Panorama is a 7,500-square-foot (700 m2) area richly landscaped and enclosed in a nearly invisible wire mesh.
Tropical Discovery was opened in 1993 as the zoo's herpetarium and aquarium. The building explores several tropical environments and displays mammals, reptiles, fish, amphibians and insects from these areas.
Dragons of Komodo was the largest Komodo dragon exhibit of its kind since it opened in 1999 and is still one of the largest Komodo dragon exhibits in the country.
Toyota Elephant Passage is a $50 million 10-acre (4.0 ha) exhibit. At its opening, it was the largest bull elephant habitat in the world, designed to house up to 12 elephants, 8 of them bulls. This arrangement allows the zoo to conduct behavioral research related to the recent discovery that bull elephants (originally thought to be solitary) form loose bachelor herds in the wild when not breeding with matriarchal herds.
Harmony Hill provides a habitat for grizzly bears modeled after the fictional Harmony Hill State Park.
Northern Shores
This exhibit opened in 1987 and has continued to be a spacious and engaging home for California sea lions.

Hi Tom. I stumbled across your Denver zoo tour after searching for a walkthrough on RU-vid. I was born and raised in Denver Colorado but living in Oregon now. I went to the Denver zoo every weekend growing up. Both my mom and dad had memberships because I loved it there so much. Your videos helped me relive that experience again. I almost felt like a kid seeing all my favorite animals again. I wanted to thank you for giving me that feeling again. They went through a lot of neat changes but it’s still the same place I loved as a kid. I will watch your two videos on Denver zoo anytime I need some nostalgia

Thank You, I honestly love hearing from viewers that watch my tours. I do my best to show everything, I'm glad my tour brought back great memories for you. The Denver Zoo is an amazing facility, it's good to hear even with the changes it kept it's charm from your childhood. 😊

Can't believe I just found your channel! Former Denver Zoo volunteer here. A lot of people doing these tours will complain that some animals aren't out but Denver Zoo uses an open door policy where animals always have the option to move inside and outside as they please. You explained that the animals' welfare is always top priority and it was so nice seeing someone so seasoned give a tour of my favorite zoo. Will definitely watch more!

Thank You so much for your great comment. I drives me crazy when I see people yelling at the animals or banging on the glass to wake a sleeping animal. I always mention in my vids that the animals aren't there to perform for you, it's their homes. I do my best to tru to educate my viewers and tell them to come back later on the day if they missed am animal they really want to see. The Denver Zoo was a fantastic experience.

Hey Tom! I hope you`re well, figured i`d leave you a comment before leaving for work, that way i can possibly have a reply when i get back from work, however you are on a road Trip currently so i know it might be a few days before i get a reply. Speaking of which: I have a comment up on The Downtown Aquarium video, it was too long so i had to separate it into a comment and then a reply lol. Well, this Zoo is amazing so far! And we still have so much to see! You already know i`m excited for Tropical Discovery, as that`s where the Zoo keeps most of their reptiles. This Zoo did an excellent job with the enclosures and just all around a good job with everthing! On the train, the lady said that there are 12 female hooded Capuchins, and 1 male, that is one lucky male! Now, time for some time stamps, of which i have many!: 3:24: It`s actually pronounced copies! I hope this helps man! 3:48: One of my favourite species of crocodilian, or even reptiles as a whole. Something about this species is just so cool to me. So Tom, i know Gaboon Vipers are your favourite snake but what would you say your overall favourite reptile is, i`m very curious. 4:18: Such a beautiful species! Another RU-vid Channel that i watch (Wickens Wicked Reptiles) has one of these name Atila, she`s a sweetheart. 4:54: After the big guys, you know, the retic, green anaconda, Burmese python, some consider this species to be the 4th or 5th largest snake species in the world, depending who you talk to, they can take down antelope, which is pretty darn impressive. As with most snakes, females are generally considerably larger. 5:16: I really enjoyed reading this sign Tom, such an interesting read, comparing 3 apex predators of Africa. Thanks for getting it in focus. 7:57: I don`t recall seeing them in any past videos... a new animal! Always nice eh, Tom? 9:26: Such a cool species! I actually watched a documentary that was about an hour long just about this species and how they live and hunt. Very interesting to watch. 11:04: One of my favourite African animals, so majestic. 11:22: Very cool looking animal, i enjoyed reading the signage, how they love, where they live, i especially enjoyed reading HOW the rams fight. 11:45: It`s actually pronounced ka-pooh-chin ;). 13:15: This troop is spoiled for choice of space! 14:15: I`m not gonna lie Tom, when you showed the goose, i thought you were going to crack some kind of joke about Canada, because it`s a Canadian Goose lol. I was somewhat surprised haha. 14:49: The signage said this little guy`s name is Quill, rightfully named. BTW Tom: I didn`t see a fence/barrier on his habitat? I`m assuming it was there but i just didn`t see it? Also: Contrary to popular belief, porcupines cannot shoot their quills, but can ram into the face of their attacker and that will really spoil your weekend... 24:18: You were looking for the white-faced saki in the other habitat, well, he`s right here! The one facing the camera in the blue bucket, thought i`d flex my animal expertise a bit haha. 32:22: Now that right there is a big male Orangutan! Do you know how to tell if mature individuals are male or female, Tom? First of all: size, second of all: the face flap on male`s faces, quite easy to tell apart once they`re mature. 33:08: They all did great work, real shame one of them was murdered in her sleep, very unfortunate indeed... 34:32: This is a different species of monkey, can`t remember the species off the top of my head, but spider monkeys don`t have those head colorations. 37:02: Yay, flamingos! 2 Different species as well! Quite easy to tell the two species apart when they`re all together like this. 37:06: Always good to have new areas built! That means more animals, which is always good. 38:00: Jorge is actually pronounced Horhey, Tom :). 39:13: Another one of my favourites! When i was a little boy, my mother got me a picture of a hippo in a frame because she knew how much i loved hippos, i called him Freddy the Hippo, i used to say goodnight to him every night and good morning every morning, i still have him on my bookshelf. 43:00: If it`s not one thing, it`s another thing eh Tom? Pretty cool that they have 2 species of rhinos here! Toronto Zoo has this species and white rhinos, if you wanted to know for when you get here for videos, dress warm though, probably colder than what you`re used to. 43:59: That is one big bull elephant, you can tell by his tusks, female Asian Elephants still have them but are nt visible, they don`t grow out far enough like the males tusks do. 45:22: Haha gave me a good chuckle there, Tom, i love how one guy somewhere next to you, laughed lol. 45:29: Very nice, stupid question but: Do elephants cross that bridge to different habitats? If so, it must be pretty darn sturdy! 46:30: Most species of antelope, only the males have horns. This species, it`s the males and females, however the horns on the males are both thicker and longer than females horns. 47;05: I guess Australia has kangaroo crossing signs eh? Here in Canada, in my region we have, bear, deer and moose signs that say: Watch especially at night. What does your area have Tom? Got any for gators? 48:16: Seriously Tom? **Massive facepalm** Man, you`re corny. Some of your jokes in this video i didn`t even bother making a timestamp because they were so corny lol. 50:09: Will a demonstration be in part 2? I`m too impatient to wait lol. 51:05: It`s actually pronounced: shuh-val-skee Tom! I know, it`s a hard to word to figure out at first lol. That`s it for time stamps! Great video Tom. Some of the signage came up blurry or with glares but that`s not your fault, just the way the sun was hitting, and that happened for the birds for the most part which were not available anyway. I hope you`re well Tom, see you in your next video, looking forward to your reply! I hope you`re enjoying your road trip, now i gotta go get ready for work, 11AM-7:30PM today and tomorrow, at least they gave me the weekend off... Have fun on the Road Trip, make some BANGER content!

@ Noah Roy The Denver zoo was another great zoo, I had a fantastic time there. The male Capuchin must be quite the stud 😁 My favorite overall reptile would be the alligator. I see them around Florida frequently. I always get upset when I hear about an alligator being put down because someone did something stupid. The Green Anaconda looks so much longer with it's thin body. Almost like a long green rope, just with deadly teeth 😮 I've had multiple people mention they enjoy reading all the signage, so I try to get good views of them for everyone. It's always great to see a new animal I haven't seen before. Doesn't happen much anymore since I visit so many zoo's. I knew that was a Canadian Goose, what did you expect me to say? Quill has a barrier around the lower portion of the habitat, it just wasn't viable in the vid. Porcupine usually either swat their rail or just back into anything attacking them. I was happy to see flamingos, seeing two different types was even better 😀 That was seriously the biggest elephant I've ever seen before. Especially for an Asian Elephant as they are typically smaller than the African. That guy is the Shaq of elephants. That bridge is designed for the elephant to walk across, it's built tough. The Emu and Kangaroos will have fancy new habitats once the new expansion us complete. Always nice to see a zoo build new area's. Come on man, that was a damn funny joke Noah. That was comedy gold, Smart-Ass or Dumb-Ass 🤣 I was going to wait for the elephant demonstration but I didn't think I'd have time for a rewalk if I did. So no show, sorry 😕 Thanks for the timestamps Noah, always enjoyable to read your comments.

@@TomsRoadTrippin Ah yes, the alligator, a classic, good choice Tom. Yeah very sad when a gator (or any animal really) needs to get put down. Regarding the goose: You being you Tom, i was just expecting you to crack some corny joke about the goose or Canada as a whole, with your corny sense of humour and all. Thanks for the clarification about the barrier on Quill`s habitat, i knew that it wasn`t height keeping Quill in because porcupines are mostly arboreal by nature. That is one tough bridge 😳! That elephant sure was a big boy! AW so no show, that`s alright. Of course Tom, always happy to add time stamps!

Hey Tom, wondering about the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo video, you missed quite a few sections, many comments addressed about the lied jungle. But did you go to the bay family children adventure section. I have been keeping track as I checked out the map during the video. It is a big zoo though
@TomsRoadTrippin
@TomsRoadTrippin 2 года назад
The pathway to that whole section was blocked off. Near Sealion shores the path was closed. Also near the desert dome the path was blocked. So that section of the zoo wasn't available during my visit. Once the construction they are working on is complete, I'll go back. Perhaps everything will be available.
