Deontay Wilder, aka "The Bronze Bomber," is almost certainly at the end of his career. At the very least, he appears to be approaching the end very quickly. There can be no question that he often delivered entertainment and, in terms of his career, he over-performed.
On this episode of the Knuckles and Gloves podcast, boxing historian Patrick Connor teams up with author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler to discuss Wilder's career and legacy.

While his opponents are not great I also think they can be underrated too. Helenius had a vulnerable chin, but he also had just beaten 20-0, mandatory challenger Adam Kownacki twice and had beaten several ex-champs in the past. Audley Harrison was a gold-medalist, Liakhovhich was a ex-champion, Breazeale/Washington/Stiverne or even 32-2 Duhaupas were solid contenders. I do not think his number of title defenses means much since Klitschko was obviously the man at the time and really should have won the vacant belt that Wilder got for fighting Number 2 ranked heavyweight Povetkin, literally the best match-up that could have been made in the division at the time. Wilders argument for the Hall of Fame should be as a legendary puncher. Earnie Shavers never won a title and lost against several more skilled dudes like Lyle, Quarry, Young, Ali and Holmes but he is still far more of a respected or even legendary figure than a lot of paperchamps. Same for David Tua he was never champ but few people actually rank him below the champs he beat. (Ruiz, Rahman, Maskaev, Moorer might be a exception, maybe)

A bit harsh, but mostly just stating facts. I do feel that Wilder was getting outboxed even in some of his lower level opponents like Szpilka and Duhaupas, until he ultimately knocked them out.

Sadly never he learned the basics. Focused on that right hand too much. ultimately that was his downfall. Great heart and always tried but his limited skillset failed him

Totally agree with you, I still find it impressive the heights he reached starting boxing at 20.

@tupacalypse88 agreed. He had one party trick which took him further than most with multiple party tricks. He found a way to make that trick work well for him
