What an incredible find. And it's amazing to hear the journalist wonder if these four young lads from Southend will one day be as popular as Spandau Ballet....a band that peaked in 1983 and has barely been heard from since. Meanwhile, *42 years* later, DM continues to play to packed arenas around the world.
"80s throwback" cheapens it for me... I would call it: high-end, progressive 80s, post-punk and pre-goth aesthetic "80s Alternative New Wave" And... Bordering on the darker spectrum between "80s New Wave Pop" and "Underground music". You had to be cool enough to even know that this was happening.
If they were futurists in 1981, I wonder if they had their own predictions for the year 2023 (almost 2024) and how they see it now. Im a 26 year old guy and getting into Depeche Mode when I normally like rock, metal, punk, and some foreign alternative. But as a young man now listening to Depeche Mode, I can hear where modern pop songs get their synth inspiration: all from the 80s and bands like Yazoo and Depeche Mode. Even Latin pop/ electronic dance music artists like Enrique Iglesias and Pitbull who were really popular like 12-13 years ago, all get their synth inspiration from bands like Depeche Mode. In this video, I can also see where the 2000s “emo” and current “alternative” fashion comes from. It’s all here in the 80s.
I just watched it a second time! so freaking cool! They were doing their own thing.. between Disco and Futuristic...?! So damn amazing. musical geniuses. The club goers were dressing up and having fun! It's like watching early interviews of The Beatles before they became huge. it's just so fun to watch the roots and the progressions.

humble beginnigs and family all around. real people...it was that spirit in uk in 1981, with maggie thatcher, and in the eighties wasnt much different in some places here..in south america.
"Futurism" replaced "Disco" ... Never thought of it that way (never heard it called "Futurism") ... How interesting to see the 'exceptions' to society at the time vs. how people generally dress today with the colored hair and extreme makeup. 36 years seems to have changed things a lot. BTW, the band is adorable. So young! ;)
@@artemsbruvers1845 привет )) what do you mean MI in the second octave? Do you mean E2? or E4? Dave's got a fantastic baritone voice, but I think that some men who can hit an A4 (LA) also sound amazing and still like a man-I agree that some males singers squeaking an squealing are annoying though ))) Also there is an a cappella recording of Walking in My Shoes where you can hear that Dave sings an A4 on the original recording.
@@jonnylpenman Let me guess, you are American, am I right? :) All you Americans are wrong people! First of all, you live on the wrong side of the Ocean, second of all, you speak wrong English, and third of all, you are using the wrong musical vocabulary :) In all over the world there is Do, Re, Mi, Fa, Sol, La, Si, seven fucking notes, what a fuck is A, B, C, D, E, F, G? :) For me it`s really crazy! Yes, you are right, Mi in the second octave in your dialekt means E2 :)
The song that begins at 4:48 is called SHOUT and is awesome... She was silent trying to be Like the girl who acted on the TV Always knowing when to say Wishing for a moment so that they could see Staring in the night A picture in my room And I think that she knew her lines Break away tonight I wanna hold your hand We've got to get it right We've got to understand Carefully watching waiting as I Stood upon the back streets and we start to play I was screaming louder as the Curtains fall between us in a twisted way Staring in the night A picture in my room And I think that she knew her lines Break away tonight I wanna hold your hand We've got to get it right We've got to understand Placing all the questions in the Minutes of a game we won so long ago Dangerous and beautiful the Radio transmission that I have to know You could never run You could never stay And I think you belong to me Break away tonight I wanna hold your hand We've got to get it right We've got to understand
Interesting. I had no idea their name was pronounced like that. Never heard anyone call them that ever. Btw anyone else find it cruel to keep an alligator in a club like that???
