Those who were not there will never, ever understand what the opening of this show was like. You could watch it a million times, you still won't come close. It was beyond magical. It was beautiful and surreal. STUNNING!!!!! My brother and I saw them twice on this tour, 1993 and 1994. I am reliving the magnificence of this perfect moment in time. F'N AMAZING!!!!!!!! So ahead of their time....
@@ninawildr4207 It's not. Seeing them after Alan left made that very obvious. After the show in 1993, even my younger brother, who was about 11 at the time, told me he was impressed. Our musical tastes are so different, but even he was impressed. That speaks to the power of DM's music. It breaks my heart that Alan Wilder is no longer a part of Depeche Mode. Watching this brings back incredible memories 🖤🖤🖤🖤🔥🔥🔥🔥
Special song by a special and unique band. People don't realize what a piece of art this is...these DM times were pretty historical. That part where Alan enters to play the melody is a classical example of how hitting the right notes in the right context is key to move your soul in the right direction. Pure magic!
Depeche Mode is such a great band. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. It got the attention of one of my heroes Joe Bouchard (ex bass player founding members of BÖC) but returns from people who likes same music is always the best. If you have just 3 minutes to listen and a bit more to comment, that would mean the world to me : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YJqmsXd8QH4.html&t
Is it cold in here? Why do I suddenly feel chills? 42 year’s old, DM fan since I was 8 years old....other kids my age loved Milli Vanilli and thought I was weird. Who’s laughing now?
Yeah, my English teacher appreciated my passion for DM and English-language music. Especially British groups for correct English. She offered me to translate their songs. It was 1991. It took me 3-5 days to translate each song. It was more interesting for me to do this than to spend time with my peers.
@@michelphilippe1 I think it's not playback. I've read that the video was composed by different shows, but I don't know if the audio is 100% from one shot.
This album was where the true fans and the violator masses fans separated. DM used real instruments on this album and decided to pull away from the electronic version of themselves. I saw this concert in Hampton Roads, VA. The The opened for them. Depeche was 30 minutes late to the venue, but when they played this opening, I cried. They did drop the curtain after the first verse.
Scott Walters Yes their lowest point because of all the chaos going on. Fame will do that. However they put on the greatest shows of their career during the 1993 and 1994 Devotional era. It was an amazing tour.
There is something so very sexy about the way they used the curtains, the shadows, the silhouettes..... I'm going to see this in my dreams and fantasies for the rest of my life..
I can taste more than feel This burning inside is so real I can almost lay my hands upon The warm glow that lingers on Moved, lifted higher Moved, my soul's on fire Moved, by a higher love I surrender all control To the desire that consumes me whole And leads me by the hand to infinity That lies in wait at the heart of me Moved, lifted higher Moved, my soul's on fire Moved, by a higher love Heaven bound on the wings of love There's so much that you can rise above Moved, lifted higher Moved, moved, by a higher love By a higher love I surrender heart and soul Sacrificed to a higher goal Moved, moved by a higher love By a higher love
This show has opened my mind like church. Finding love this year over and over, this concert is best discovered over new love. Devotional mind blown open wide
Beautiful just beautiful, there is nothing compared to this. This is how you open a concert. This song is easily in my top 10 of best songs of DM, Alan wilder is a genius!
@@JackFraz1972 personally, I think Martin was being a prick calling Alan a control freak...as an excuse once Alan left the band and explanation why Alan felt he was under(appreciated, rated, paid...). I believe Martin and co. used Alan in a proper capitalist way...let him sweat and then drain to bloody pain.
@@ViliamGajdos I wouldn't say they used him it's not like he didn't get paid or anything but of course Alan did contribute way more than Fletch but got paid the same .
Higher love is such a beautiful, tranquil, mysterious and never boring song for me. Always beautiful to listen to. 1.Higher love 2.In your room 3.Dream on 4.Precious 5.Cover me 6.Enjoy the Silence 7.World in My Eyes 8.Stripped 9.Behind the Wheel 10.Just can’t get enough
Un album accouché dans la douleur, une tournée très compliqué avec les autres membres du groupe la magie et la une voix incroyable un concert excellent C’est du dépêche mode 🖤🖤🖤
I don't know enough words to describe what this band doing to my soul with every song they write and sing even after 20 years and thousands of shows that I've seen live, falling in love over and over with every beat every day.
@@danielw.92 i agree, saw them in California, Munich, and Austin. Phenomenol. Abosulute Magic! And most people don't appreciate or even know who they are. Shame.
i love music in it's all. many live shows, many studio "masterpieces". But this... the way it gets you... every band starts a concert with a high beat song. To start one of the biggest tours in the world with this... this is pure masterpiece. martin wrote it, alan worked it and dave made it real with what anton designed....
Was at this show, loved the devotional tour- just saw them in Seattle. They’re simply the best band on the planet. Miss fletch (RIP) they still sounded phenomenal!!!
I still have this DVD. This is unbelievable. DM, with Alan..... just as good as it gets. Atmosphere can reduce you to tears at times throughout the performance.
The very moment they upgraded from pop synth band to godlike geniuses. Is sad they never achieved this level of perfection again, this is the definitive DM, the one that´s gonna live forever.
best convert ever crystal palace 1993. best opening ever with that curtain, then dave appears mid way through. takes me back. sisters of mercy supporting as well were superb
Just think about it for a second: Not only did they start off their show with a song off their latest record (at the time), but it wasn't even a radio single. AND it was the last track of the album! On top of that, this was a totally new direction for the band, artistically speaking. Yet it STILL garnered a massive response from the audience. DM fans are like none other. Truly, a one-of-a-kind band.
101 - Rose Bowl in Pasadena. Songs of the faith and devotion
i saw them twice in a year. Once in the L.A. forum the other in irvine Meadows..the second was almost a year later..remeber they toured for like two years straight. by the time they did the second U.S, leg, which were all outdoor festival type shows, you can tell they were all strung out and tired….
+ Lovely Shrew My friend and I saw this Depeche Mode concert, live, at both Madison Square Garden (MSG) and Jones Beach Theatre. We've seen DM live another time as well. DM just announced their Overseas 2017 Tour dates. When they tour your area, maybe you will be able to see them live. I hope you do. I was there, june first (on Alan's birthday 😊) 1993 in Ahoy stadium, Rotterdam. It was pure magic. I've seen them three times since then, one time in Holland and two times in Germany.
I dont want to be that person that says Depeche Mode 'peaked' at this point... I really dont, but for me, they really did! I was 14 when this tour came out, a quiet and shy small town boy that was too young to see his favourite band. I saw them in 98 for the singles tour but I would have loved to have seen this era ❤❤ - Devotional - my most watched dM video.
was 15 when I went there and I would not even consider my parents stopping me...a bit naughty, but better then living in that huge regret for the rest of my life...I was sure back then that this is real!!!
Geezus, this was half my lifetime ago, and unlike me, DM's music does not age! The memory of being at Crystal Palace back in 1993 will live with me forever.
I am a big fan of Depeche Mode, they have really too many great songs, this song is number one to me!!!Especially, this perfomance, how Dave look, camera from side, this moment is FANTASTIC!!!!
It couldn't get higher, at this point they were perfect. After Wilder left the magic was gone a little bit. Ultra followed in greatness, but after that something was missing. They never were so perfect and genius again. Never understood why they didn't get wilder back...
Cos Ultra was successful and the remaining 3 wrongly believed it confirmed they didn’t need Alan. To be fair doubt Alan would have returned with the way he was treated by the others.

Truly magical performance, there is something special here. I am a huge Depeche Mode fan, but this is one of the best performances I have seen, I love it when a live performance sounds better than a studio recording as it is very rare, this is one of those times.
