Ironically Vaughn, you nailed it about the Spirit album and it is a great comparison. You joked that it may be better than the Spirit but as ‘Going Backwards’ goes ‘there is nothing inside’, so no real Spirit in this artificial track at all, a lyrical plastic, no matter if today or in 100 years time. So maybe the Spirit album isn’t that bad as you thought from this perspective because there is a message about the humans last chance to keep the spirit and not get deceived by this kind of stuff no matter how perfect it becomes in the future. I heard this the day it came out probably 20 times, then I found myself in the shower singing it and humming it and I really wished it was a Depeche Mode song. It is truly, truly scary! It probably took AI a few seconds to make it, including the goth master video of Dave.

It's terrifying that someone wants to listen this... something that it's not made of humans...It is so much good music in this world that we can listen to. I am a Depeche Mode, fan from the 80's. Yes the tune was kind of Depeche Mode, but the lyrics, sound like they were written and put together by a 4 year. Its almost as if the AI computer found all of the words used to describe electronic 80's music and put them in sentences. One thing AI will never have and that is a soul and it shows in everything AI is now used for to create films and music. Welcome to Terminator and Skynet. I will stick with the real thing thanks.

I have always wanted to get in touch with you but now seems a bloody good time. Just a rundown on myself..........I am 49 and fell in love with Depeche when I saw a 101 documentary, the rest is history. I always knew who DM were from a very young age through listening to my Dad's radio in his car, 'Just can't get enough ' would enter the speakers and I would be...,....Dad, that's Depeche Mode isn't it? He would be yes it is as my head appeared from the back seat, my first ever memory little did I know what was to come, I was only 7 at the time. It was one night many years later that a documentary 101 appeared on I think BBC2 at the time was broadcast, I was captivated by the melodic sound, something so new yet familiar, I was hooked. I remember getting on my bike the following day to buy the album on vinyl which was probably the best thing I have ever done in my life. When my parents went out I would pretend to be Dave in the Living Room with 101 full whack, I used to love it!! I even tried to replicate that gig by making a cardboard version of the stage and placing it on top of my wardrobe in my bedroom, I used cotton wool for Martin's hair!! I so wish I had pictures of it! It was great !! I never looked back after that and went on to buy their back catalogue when I could. It's crazy really how a band can have such an influence on your life, I mean even when I press a button on the TV remote and 'Mute' appears I just think of Depeche, they are tattooed on my heart and it is one that will never fade. I've been messing around a little with AI music, mostly for the purpose of background music and orchestration for short film projects. A song in the style of DM did occur to me (when ChatGPT came out, lyrics in the style of DM was one of the things I tested it on), and actual music might have been the very first thing I'd have tried... IF it wasn't such an insult to Dave and Martin. As much of a technophile that I am, AI music replicating living artists is just gross.

The era of authentic art ended a few years ago. We now live in the burgeoning, embryonic era of stochastic art. After SOFAD we were then deprived of AW for the remaining albums. If AI can strip those albums down to the bone and reinvent them as they should have been as if AW had mastered them, then I for one would be interested to hear them.

The fact that we are only in the INFANT stages of AI music, and it already sounds this good and coherent. It's so scary, but also extremely fun to use these sites to make music. It helps me come up with melodies that I might not have thought of. Some of them suck though LMAO.

I'll come out and say it... I liked this, but I honestly could feel that it wasn't real. To me it felt like I could hear the words being pieced together like square blocks fitting into square holes one at a time. The words didn't flow like they would in real life (like water as Bruce Lee would say). I think by the time Depeche Mode decide to break up (which I hope never happens), AI will be on the same level of the real DM and no one will be able to tell the difference. Rhis technology will be able to create new music by bands that no longer exist until the end of time. Part of me thinks that's really cool, but it's also really sad and I feel that it robs us of the joy we get from real music. As far as Chat GPT goes... I've used it a handful of times and one of the very first things I did was ask it to write me a love song in the style of Depeche Mode. It was just text, but it came off as being pretty darn close to being a real DM song. It made me wish I knew how to make it an actual song. Anyway... Thanks for your review and for your thoughts. 😎👍

Yes, you there. “Well it sounds to GOOD to be a CURRENT DM song, kind sir, It has atmospheric qualities that have been almost absent from new stuff, the lyrics are in short 4-5 word increments like Gore during Violator, it’s deep brooding darkness, it’s just too GOOD to be DM, at least today… they are essentially intent on producing “crap”. I have to say - this sounds more like Assemblage 23 than Depeche Mode, especially the vocals. The vocal style / processing and tempo is almost a direct lift of the Assemblage 23 track "Damaged". It's even in the same key. Check it out. Having said that, I Kinda like it, although the lyrics are a bit goofy! Could be made into a good song with new lyrics and a bit of rework.

Whenever we want a new DM album, we can just create one in suno or udio. One day you will rank the best DM AI songs. That's really crazy. Lets say one of their AI songs becomes a hit. Will the band embrace it and play it in concert? Whoa!!! I am a songwriter, synthesist who earned my stripes the hard way and for AI to create something this good in its infancy really smacks you in the face.

@petergearing4796 - I couldn’t agree more. No light and shade. No depth to the lyrics. AI is a shadow - clever - and in the wrong hands perhaps dangerous- but Dave and Martin you can NEVER be replicated 🫶

It's a great idea which could, in turn, be perfected to be a great song. The legal challenges will be endless. Written by AI, Co written, produced and performed by Depeche Mode. Whoa, what a sinister thought. I wouldn't be shocked if Dave and Msrtin heard this and liked it. AI will assist those with no talent who can't write a good song like Depeche Mode to even the playing field. All by entering keywords vs. putting in the hard work, music lessons, and talent that it used to take. It takes zero talent to generate an AI song. It will also separate the true talent, which will still be able to perform their songs live when AI can not.

what scares me the most is that the original video has been taken down despite the fact it is not technically copyright infringement. That means huge bands will have no problem with AI plagiarism, but not small artists. This will maintain the hegemony of established bands and artists (or new artists that are backed by big music companies) and decrease the chances for new independent artists to emerge.

A little too tidy or regular accord to be Depeche mode - at least as far as Martin's compositions are concerned. This, including the song itself, I'd say typically sounds like some trying to sound like Depeche Mode - which it is, AI tries to sound like Depeche Mode.

I think the recording labels should embrace this. For example, when an artists passes away, the people who own their rights, can still record songs with other songwriters and engineers. Imagine a new Elvis album, an official release. The $ potential is enormous. It’s the same thing as actors being used after they have passed away with computer generated graphics. I could see an Indiana Jones movie with Harrison Ford in 39 years.

I said it when I first heard it and I stand by it: With very few exceptions I'd rather listen to this than anything they released after "Playing The Angel".
