If I have time this weekend, I will go to the beach and look at a beautiful view of the sea. One of the reasons why I’m learning English is to read books about neuroscience in English because the translated versions of foreign books about it are rarely published. I would be appreciate it if you could check and correct my English. Thank you so much for making a helpful video as always. I look forward to watching the next video of this series.

Neuroscience? Wow, that's a tough but fascinating subject. You bring up a good point. Learning English is really helpful for gaining knowledge because there is such a wealth of information in English. Of course there is a lot of information in other languages, too, but there is more in English because of the publishing, media, research, etc. that is conducted in English. I'll be happy to answer your questions and correct you, but your English appears excellent, and any errors seem to be very minor. Your DC, IC sentence is correct. I would probably use a different verb than "look at" in this case because "look at" implies a short action. I would probably use "see" or "take in," which implies a longer action. Take in means that you enjoy it slowly. Also, in your last sentence, you wrote "I would be appreciate it..." but "appreciate" is the verb, so take out "be."

@@LearnAcademicEnglish I didn't know you could use “take in” that way. Thank you very much for taking your time and explaining it to me kindly.

Thanks a lot for this series, Jenna! In the past I used to hate grammar (both in English and Portuguese), but today I know it is essencial for a clean communication. Looking foward to the next videos! Stay safe and congrets for the channel!

Hi Uiliam! I agree that grammar is necessary. I have had many conversations with English learners who did not have a strong basis in grammar and often had difficulty understanding what they wanted to say. I would find myself asking myself things like "Is she talking about what happened in the past or present?" And grammar is absolutely essential for writing, especially if you need to use writing in courses or work. Thanks for the comment and take care! 😊

Jenna! I just want you to know that every day I learn from you! 3:42am & today it's clauses! PS: If you see that I'm making mistakes, as I comment, could you correct me!?!?!? Have a great day! I appreciate you and what you are doing to help people, such as my self. (Am I suppose to put a comma before "such" &, if so, WHY? These are the things I struggle with in my writing). Back to my learning! lol

So glad you find the videos helpful! "Such as" can go with a comma or without. Here's the difference: Household pets, such as dogs and cats, need to be trained. Here the comma shows that what comes after is just an example. It's not necessary to understand the sentence. Animals such as dogs and cats need to be trained. Here the comma is not used. The example "dogs and cats" is restrictive, meaning that it limits or restricts the noun. We're not talking about ALL animals. We're talking only about animals like dogs and cats. Don't worry about that rule! Most people don't know the difference between these, and using a comma before "such as" is the most common way. :)

I have short (30-60 second) videos on TikTok, and I just started posting them on this channel. Most of my videos are longer, but I have many grammar videos that are pretty short, like 3-6 minutes: ru-vid.com/group/PLTaPDxv5nudnbMc7WK5e6Hz1EQrz49Yvd

Independent clauses I do it daily . I go and earn money there . Me and my friend Jason both love being honest . Me and my friend Jason both love watching TV and playing cricket . Dependent clauses I did my job after completing my project . I went before she came . If I had seen it , I would be happy today . Are these good mam
@LearnAcademicEnglish
@LearnAcademicEnglish 2 года назад
Yes, they are correct examples of independent and dependent clauses. However, according to the grammar rules, you cannot use me and my friend for the subject. You need to say my friend and I for the subject of the sentence.

So glad you found it helpful! I am hoping to publish the next video tonight or tomorrow and to make the videos in this series quickly since there will be several videos. I try to go straight to the point because I know people's time is valuable, and I have been teaching for many years, so I usually have an idea what information is necessary to learn the rules. I hope you find the next videos helpful, too. Thanks! 😁

That's true. I am still teaching the highest level writing at our college, and I always see mistakes in using DC and IC as well as DC fragments.
